VIII. for Tythes in London, reported by Sir Francis Hastings, as a mischievous and injurious Bill. - That the Committees thought fit to draw a new Bill; which he delivered in, with the same Title, and presently had a first Reading.

Littleton's Restitution.

B. Of Restitution of the Children of John Littleton Esquire, &c. reported by Mr. Overbury, without [a] any Amendment. A Proviso offered on the Behalf of Sir Tho. Cornwall, which was not then read; but upon further Motion, Ordered, That as well the Counsel of the said Sir Tho. as of the other Part, if it were required, should be heard at the Bar, at Eight a Clock Tomorrow Morning.

B. For the Naturalizing of John Gordon, Dean of Sarum, reported also by Mr Overbury, without Alteration.

Poor.

L. 3. An Act for the true Employment of Relief appointed for the Poor: - Upon the third Reading, much disputed; and, upon the Question, dashed [b].

Statutes.

B. For Continuance of Statutes, &c. reported from the Committee by Mr. Moore, with sundry Provisoes and Alterations; but the Reading, or Debating, deferred.

Tonage and Poundage.

B. For a Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, reported from the Committee by Mr. Laughton, with the Proviso for Chester: which was now the third time read, and, after much Dispute, upon the Question, rejected.

It was moved, and demanded, whether this Bill of Tonage and Poundage were of Necessity, of Policy, or merely a Gratuity.

Answ. That it was neither of Necessity, nor Policy, but a mere Gratuity.

This (as was said) may well quell the Rumour of Distaste between the King and the House.

Penning's Release.

Upon the Motion of Sir Lewys Lewknor, added to the Committee in the Bill concerning Edmond and Anthony Penning, Mr. Nath. Bacon, Sir Charles Cornwallys, Sir Tho. Holcroft, Sir Rob. Wingfield, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Yelverton.
