Removal of Capuchins.

ORDERED, That the Committee for Removal of the Capuchins do take care, that they be forthwith sent away; and that the Committee do send to the Earl of Warwick, to desire him to provide a Ship for the Transport of them.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That my Lord Dungarvon shall have Liberty to go into Ireland, and to continue still a Member of this House, notwithstanding his Absence.

Dowse's Arrears.

Ordered, That Captain Rich. Dowse shall have Fortytwo Pounds and Fifteen Shillings paid unto him, as Arrears due unto him, for his personal Entertainment, in the late Northern Expedition; as appears by Sir William Uvedale's Certificate; and that Mr. Wheeler pay these Monies.

Persons sent for.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. West Woodmonger, and Mr. Jasen Vintner, be forthwith sent for, as Delinquents, for refusing to pay the weekly Assessments, and for abusing the Collectors.

Ordered, Mr. Swallow be summoned forthwith to attend the Service of the House, for refusing to allow, out of his Rent, the Portion of the weekly Assessments set upon a Tenant of his.

Watton Rectory.

An Ordinance for sequestring the Rents and Profits of the Rectory of Watton, in the County of Herts, whereof William Ingolsby is now Rector, into the Hands of certain Sequestrators named in the said Ordinance, for the Use of John Wells, Master of Arts, a godly, learned, and orthodox Divine; who is hereby appointed and required to preach every Lord's Day, and to officiate as Parson, and to take care for the Discharge of the Cure of the said Place, in all the Duties thereof, until further Order shall be taken by both Houses of Parliament; was this Day read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords, for their Concurrence.

Passes to France.

Ordered, That Sebastian la Pierre, Frenchman, and Jane his Wife, Peter his Servant, and Jane his Maid Servant; Jehan Prevost, and his Wife Charlotte, and their Daughter; Louise Coulombe Prevost, and her Two Children; all French born; shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass into France, with their Goods; provided they transport no prohibited Goods.

Ordnance, &c.

Ordered, That the Eight Brass Pieces of Ordnance remaining in the Custody of Browne, his Majesty's Gun Founder, informed to be this Day removed from thence, be taken from thence, and placed in the Magazine at London, to be kept there in Safety for the right Owner: And that it be referred to the Committee for Examinations to take care herein.

And it is referred to this Committee to examine what is become of all the Granadoes made by Mr. Browne; and how the Twelve Granadoes came between the Walls of Lambeth House.

Scruggs' Petition, &c.

The humble Petition of Wm. Scruggs, Butcher, was this Day read; and ordered to be referred to the Burgesses of Westminster, and Sir Martin Lumley, and Sir Mm. Massam, and Mr. Grimstone, Sir G. Gerard; who are to examine the Business this Afternoon: And that the Horses be stayed in the mean time: And that they consider of the Complaint of Tho. Wisse.

Londonderry Forces.

The humble Petition of the Mayor of the City of Londonderry, and the Seven Captains; desiring that the Mayor of Londonderry, for the Time being, and Captain Henry Vaughan, Brother to Sir John Vaughan, lately deceased, may be authorized Governors of the Forces in the said Town; was this Day read: And ordered, that Mr. Vassall do bring in an Ordinance to the same Purpose.

Mayor of Weymouth's Indemnity.

A Letter of his Majesty's, directed to the Mayor of Weymouth, dated at Oxforde, 28 Martii, requiring the Mayor, &c. of that Town to supply the Forces in the Castle and Isle of Portland with Necessaries.

Ordered, That the Mayor of Weymouth, and all other Persons, shall be indemnified, and saved harmless, by this House, for not giving Assistance to those Forces assembled in Portland Castle, or the Island there, with Victuals, and other Provisions; notwithstanding the Letter the said Mayor, and others of that Town, have received from his Majesty to the contrary.

Ordered, That the Letter, now read, shall be signed by Mr. Speaker, and sent unto the Mayor of Weymouth.

Payment to Lewis.

Whereas, by an Order of the Twenty-fifth of August last, Mr. Betsworth, one of the Collectors in the County of Sussex, upon the Bill of Four hundred thousand Pounds, was required, by that Order, forthwith to pay the Sum of One thousand Pounds, or so much thereof as was then in his Hands, to Sir Wm. Lewis, one of the Committees of this House, residing then in the County of Southampton; and that, upon an Acquittance, from Sir Wm. Lewis, of so much Money as he receives of the said Collector, this House did undertake to pay in the like Sum into Guildhall, to the Treasurers for the Receipt of the Four hundred thousand Pounds; and that the said Collector shall have a Discharge from thence, as if he had paid in so much Money: And whereas it appears, by the Acquittances this Day presented unto the House, under the Hand of Sir Wm. Lewis, that he hath received the Sum of Nine hundred Pounds, of the said Mr. Betsworth: It is this Day Ordered, That the Members of this House, that are authorized by the Act of Four hundred thousand Pounds, to sign their Warrant to the Treasurers at Guildhall, to give an Acquittance to the said Mr. Betsworth, as if the said Mr. Betsworth had paid in the Sum of Nine hundred Pounds to the said Treasurers.

Person committed.

A Pass, under the Hand of Sir Jacob Astley, dated at Oxford 22 Martii, 1642, to Thomas Monkaster, was read. And it is Ordered, That Tho. Monkaster shall be forthwith committed to the Gatehouse; and that Colonel Moore be desired to take care to send him to the Lord General, to be tried by a Council of War, and to be proceeded against accordingly, and Justice done upon him, according to his Demerit.

Ordnance for Hull.

Ordered, That the Matter contained in the Order of the Three-and-twentieth of March last, concerning Hull, which was referred to the Committee of the Safety, shall be resumed from that Committee, and be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Navy; and the same Power given to that Committee for furnishing the Twenty Pieces of Ordnance desired for the Town of Hull.

Western Counties.

The Form of a Protestation, or Covenant, for the Western Counties to take, and to enter into a Covenant, was read; and ordered to be recommitted to all the Burgesses of Devon.

City Covenant.

Mr. Glyn, Mr. Rous, Mr. Hollis, Mr. Serjeant Wilde, Mr. Selden, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Grimston, Mr. Martyn, Sir Pet. Wentworth, Mr. Pym, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Millington, Sir Gilb. Gerard, Mr. Browne, Mr. Solicitor, Sir Hen. Ludlow, Mr. Strode, Mr. Cage, Mr. Bond, the Citizens of London;

This Committee is appointed to consider of the Desires of the Citizens, concerning a Covenant, and an Oath of Association; and to bring it into the House: And are to meet Thursday next, at Two of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Strickland's &c. Losses.

An Ordinance, for Reparations to be made to Sir Wm. Strickland, for his Losses and Damages sustained by the Forces of the Earl of Newcastle, was this Day read; and re-committed to the Committee of this House appointed to consider of the Execution of the Ordinance for sequestring the Estates of Papists, and notorious Delinquents: And it is referred to the same Committee, to consider of the Losses and Damages sustained by Mr. Serjeant Wilde, Sir Tho. Middleton, and Mr. Blakiston, by the King's Forces; and to consider of some Way, and take Order, for their Reparations.

Search of Ships.

Ordered, That the Mayor of Harwiche, and the Bailiffs of Ipswiche, or any of them, or their or any of their Deputies, shall be authorized by this House, from time to time, to make diligent Search in all Ships, that go into and out of the River there.

Sir H. Garraway.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Hen. Garraway shall be discharged from being any longer Governor of the Turkey Company, or any other Company, or Companies, within the City of London; and that the Turkey Company, and such other Companies, whereof he is now Governor, do chuse another Governor in his Place: And that if there be any Arrears due to the said Sir Hen. Garroway, by any of the Companies, for his Stipend, as Governor; that such Monies be paid over to the Treasurers at Guildhall London, towards Satisfaction of the Assessment set upon him.

Ld. Kenouil.

Resolved, &c. That the Lord of Kenouil shall be forthwith taken into Custody, by the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House, till the Pleasure of this House be further known.

Sir W. Brunkerd.

Resolved, That Sir Wm. Brunkerd be required forthwith to depart the Town; otherwise this House will proceed against him, according to his Demerit.

Persons from Oxforde, &c.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth declare, that whatsoever Person shall come from Oxforde, or any Part of the King's Army, to London, or the Parts adjacent; or to any Part of the Army under the Command of the Earl of Essex; or to any Fort, or Court of Guard, kept by the Authority of both Houses of Parliament; without the Warrant of both Houses of Parliament, or of the Lord General the Earl of Essex; shall be apprehended as Spies and Intelligencers; and be proceeded against according to the Rules and Grounds of War.

And it is further Ordered, That the like Care be taken by Water; for the apprehending of the Persons aforesaid: And all Captains of Guards and Officers, and all other Persons, are required to be very diligent in the apprehending the said Persons.

And it is further Ordered, That this Order be printed, and published, and sent to the several Courts of Guard, both by Water and Land.

Restraint on Ships.

Ordered, That Solomon Browne Marshal, and Tho. Wyon Register of the Admiralty, do take off any Restraint which lieth on the Ships called the Encrease and Good Fortune, whereof Wm. Tappy and David Lambe, the Persons being dispatched for the urgent Affairs of Ireland, according to a Warrant from the Irish Committee of the Eighth of April, 1643; and that the said Browne and Wynn, after dismissing the said Ships, do make their present Repair to the Irish Committee, to give them an Account of their not obeying their said former Order.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Strode carried up to the Lords the Ordinance for making Reparation to my Lord General, out of my Lord Capell's Estate; and the Warrant, under the Sheriff's Hand of Staffordshire, for the seizing of my Lord General's Estate into the Hands of the said Sheriff: And, likewise, he carried up the Bill, sent down from the Lords, and passed this House, for settling the Lady Blagrave's Jointure; and was appointed to move the Lords to pass the Ordinance concerning the Association of Skropshire.

Landguard Fort.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Navy do write a Letter to the Earl of Warwick, to desire him to take some Course by Mr. Squire Bence; and to give some Assistance unto him for securing Landguard Fort, such as in his Lordship's Wisdom he shall think fit.

Treaty with the King.

Mr. Pym presents a Copy of some additional Instructions to be sent to the Committees at Oxon, concerning the Commissioners Conservators of the general Peace; and from ....

Prisoners Protestation.

Ordered, That the Committee for Prisoners do consider of the Protestation appointed to be taken by the poor Prisoners; and that it be penned in a stricter and more ample Manner.

Napier's Assessment.

Ordered, That the Lands of Sir Rob.Napier be distrained for the Payment of the Rate assessed upon him, by Order of this House.

Apprehending Portman, &c.

Ordered, That a Warrant shall issue forth under Mr. Speaker's Hand, directed to the Serjeant at Arms, for the apprehending of Sir Wm. Portman, Sir Gerard Napier, and Mr. Bassett, as Delinquents.

Absent Members.

Ordered, That such Members of the House, as have been absent ever since Christmas, and are not, nor have been in the Service of the Parliament, shall not be admitted to the House, until they have given Satisfaction to the Committee appointed for the absent Members, and that the Committee have reported the same to this House.

Eastland Merchants.

Ordered, That the Business concerning the Eastland Merchants be referred to the Committee for the Navy; and likewise, the Consideration of the Petition of the Governor, Assistants, and Fellowship, of Eastland Merchants, and the Proceedings thereupon, be referred to the Committee for the Navy.
