PRAYERS.

Persons sent for.

RESOLVED, &c. That Mr. Alexander Thaine, Mr. Wm. Davies, Mr. Stephen Chase, Mr. Tho. Bagley, Cleve Ven, Gilb. Meese, James Weaver, Jo. Miller, be forthwith sent for, as Delinquents, for refusing to pay the weekly Assessments; and for abusing the Collectors when they came to demand it.

Payment to Bastwick, &c.

The humble Petition of Susanna Bastwick, Wife of Dr. Bastwick, close Prisoner in the Castle of Yorke, taken, being in the Parliament's Service, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom do grant their Warrant to the Treasurer at Wars, forthwith to pay unto Dr. Bastwick, and Captain Ludlowe, or their Assignees, Fifty Pounds apiece, upon Account; and that the Committee for Perusal of the Warrants do give Order for complying with this Warrant.

Assessments, &c.

Ordered, That Captain Crompton be enjoined and required to aid the Collectors, in gathering the Monies upon the weekly Assessments, and upon the Ordinance for sequestring the Estates of Papists and notorious Delinquents, within the Liberties of Westminster, St. Katharine's, and other Parts adjacent.

Delinquents Estates.

An Ordinance for Addition of the Names of certain Sequestrators, to the Committees, named in the Ordinance for seizing and sequestring the Estates of Papists and notorious Delinquents, in the County of Devon, was read; and assented unto.

Message to Lords.

Sir Rob. Harley is appointed to go to the Lords, to desire, that they would pass the Ordinance, for Re-payment of Part of the weekly Assessments to the City of London, upon the publick Faith; and likewise to desire them, that the Committee for sequestring the Estates of Papists and notorious Delinquents, may meet this Afternoon.

Affairs of Devon, &c.

Mr. Hill, Mr. Maynard, Mr. Rous, Mr. Bond, Mr. Strode, Mr. Sam. Browne, are appointed to prepare a Declaration concerning the Affairs of Devon and Cornewall, and the Proceedings of the Treaters there, and the Papers sent up from the Committees in those Parts.

Mayor of Bristoll.

A Letter from the Mayor of Bristoll, of the Ninth of April 1643, desiring Re-payment of such Monies as he has lent, and advanced, for the Service of the Parliament, was this Day read: And

Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Pym, to confer with my Lord Say about it; and to take Order for the Satisfaction of it; and inform the House what Part of these Monies are satisfied.

And it is further Ordered, That Mr. Pym do confer with some of the Somersetshire Gentlemen, and take Order, that a Thousand Pounds, of the first Monies that are or shall be raised in that County, upon any Order or Ordinance of Parliament, be paid to the Mayor of Bristoll, towards the Satisfaction of the Monies owing unto him by the Parliament.

Prisoners Protestation.

Sir Rob. Harley presents the Protestation to be taken by the Prisoners, upon their Discharge: Which was considered; and again voted, with some Additions, in hæc verba, viz.

I A.B. do, in the Presence of Almighty God, promise, vow, and protest, that I will never hereafter, upon any Command, Power, or Pretence of Authority whatsoever, take up or bear Arms against any of the Forces under the Command of the Earl of Essex, or of any other authorized thereunto by Command or Direction of both or either House now assembled in Parliament.

Resolved, &c. That Hen. Scudamore, Sam. Bellamy, Hen. Vaughan, Giles Wedgewood, Hen. Austen, Humphry Yates, William Perepointe, Giles Brace, Gilbert Talbott, Jo. Drew, and Rich. King, Persons taken Prisoners at Brill, and now Prisoners in Peter House, London, shall be forthwith discharged, upon taking the Protestation.

Resolved, &c. That Wm. Powell, Geo. Allen, Rich. Caswell, Walt. Clerke, now Prisoners at London House, and taken at Brill, shall be forthwith discharged, upon taking the Protestation.

Resolved, &c. That Tho. Hungate, now Prisoner in the King's Bench, shall be forthwith discharged, upon taking the Protestation.

Tumults at Lynn.

Ordered, That Mr. Tho. Gurling, now Mayor of Lynne, Sir Tho. Huggin, Knight, Jo. Spilman, Gregory Gawsell, Jo. Cooke, Esquires, Mr. Toll, and Mr. Percivall, Members of the House of Commons, or the greater Number of them, shall have Power to examine the State of the Business of the Town of Lynn, concerning the late Distractions there, and to certify the House of their Doings therein; and to have Power to commit to safe Custody, or to send up to the Parliament, such as they shall find, upon full Proof, to have disturbed the Peace of the said Town, and have made and committed the late Tumults and Riots there, and opposed the Orders and Authority of Parliament; and to do all other Things conducing to the Security and Safety of the said Town, and Preservation of the Peace there.

Lords desire a Conference.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edw. Leech and Dr. Bennett;

The Lords desire a present Conference, by Committees of both Houses, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, concerning an Answer they have lately received from his Majesty; and, likewise, touching some Things that concern Duke d'Espernon, Marquis de Vienville, and the Earl of Keneuil.-

Message to Lords.

Sir Rob. Harley likewise carried up the Order concerning Dorsettshire; and was appointed to move the Lords, that, at the next Conference, they might acquaint them, with some Instructions to the Committee at Oxon, concerning Scotland.-

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; that this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will give a present Meeting, as is desired.

Reformados.

The humble Petition of divers Reformados was this Day read: And it is

Ordered, That it be especially recommended unto the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom, to give Order for their speedy Satisfaction.

Payment to Casteel.

Ordered, That Mr. Casteel Merchant shall have Three thousand Pounds paid unto him, out of the Monies that shall come in upon the Bill concerning such Men as have subscribed for the Adventure of Ireland, and have not paid in their Monies, towards the Payment of a greater Debt owing unto him.

Galway Fort.

Ordered, That so soon as the Conference shall be ended, the Report shall be made concerning Galway Fort.

Conference.

Mr. Pym, Mr. Hollis, Mr. Lisle, are appointed Managers, and Reporters of this Conference.

Answers from Lords.

Sir Rob. Harley brings Answer, that the Lords do agree, that the Committee for Sequestrations do meet this Afternoon, at Three of Clock; and they will speedily pass the Ordinance for Repayment. . Part of the weekly Assessments to the City of London, upon the publick Faith;-do agree to the Ordinance concerning Dorsettshire.

Mr. Strode brings Answer, that the Lords do agree to the Ordinance for Addition of Names to the Sequestrators in the County of Devon.

Whale Fishery.

Ordered, That the humble Petition of Tho. Meadowes, and others, Merchants of Yermouth, trading to Greenland, for the Whale Fishing, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for the Navy.

Delinquent's Estates.

Ordered, That the Propositions made to my Lord Gray of Warke, and by him sent hither, with some Queries and Doubts upon the last Ordinance for seizing the Estates of Bishops, Papists, and notorious Delinquents, with relation to Collegiate Bodies, this Day read; be referred to the Consideration of the Committee appointed for the effectual putting in Execution the said Ordinance.

Message from the King-and Communications at Conference.

Mr. Holles presents, from the Conference, a Message received from his Majesty, in a Letter inclosed, from my Lord Falkland: The which being read, he said, the Earl of Manchester told them, that the Time and Season of the Year did challenge from them . . collect, and take an Account of the present Affairs, and State of the Army, and Monies, at this time; that Care might be taken, that we might not have worse Conditions put upon us, than we would willingly accept of: They do desire, that the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom might meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, and consider of these Things, and report the State of all Affairs to the Houses, that Course might be taken in them, in as private and silent a Way as might be. He further said, the Lords have ever desired to keep up a good Correspondency with this House: That the Earl of Kenouil came from Oxon to this Town, with a Pass from them, concerning Affairs of his own: That they understand he is, notwithstanding, under a Restraint, by an Order of this House: If the Restraint were in order to his Return, they joined with this House; if otherwise, they doubted not but this House would consider of it. They desired this House would join, in paying all Respect to the Duke d' Espernon, and Marquiss de la Vienville, in giving them Liberty to transport their Household-stuff, the Plate they brought with them, and some Horses they have bought. This Respect to these great Personages, they hope, will not much prejudice this Kingdom; and they will be very careful what Passes they grant for Horses, hereafter.

Passes granted.

Ordered, That this House doth join with the Lords in a Pass for the Earl of Kinouil to return speedily to Oxon; and that the Restraint be taken off from him.

Resolved, &c. That the Duke D'Espernoon and the Marquis De la Vein Ville, shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass into France; and for transporting with them all such Plate as they brought into this Kingdom with them.

Ordered, That Answer be returned to the Lords, that when this House shall know what Number of Horses the Duke D'Espernoon and the Marquiss De la Vienville desire to pass, they will then return their Answer.

Bronkerd's Pass.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Bronkerd shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass to Oxon, with one Servant; provided they be searched, to see what Money, Jewels, Letters, or Ammunition, he carries; and that the Name of the Servant be expressed in the Warrant.

Conference desired.

Resolved, &c. That there shall be a Conference desired with the Lords, upon the Matter of the last Conference; and these Votes, and the Order Yesterday passed, concerning Passes to and from Oxon, delivered at this Conference.

Persons to return to Oxford.

Ordered, That Mr. May be enjoined forthwith to return to Oxon with one Man; and that he shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant; with Caution that he carries neither Monies, Jewels, Letters, nor Ammunition; and that they be searched; and if any of these found about them, that they be seized: And the Name of the Servant he carries is to be expressed in the Warrant; and the Warrant to continue of Force but Three Days after the Date.

Ordered, That Sir Fred. Cornewallis be enjoined forthwith to return to Oxon; and that he shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to pass with one Servant, whose Name is to be expressed in the Warrant; with Caution, that he carries neither Monies, Jewels, Letters, nor Ammunition; and that they be searched; and, if any of these be found about them, that they be seized: And the Name of the Servant he carries is to be expressed in the Warrant; and the Warrant to continue of Force but Three Days after the Date.

House to sit.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edw. Leech and Dr. Bennett;

The Lords have sent us to acquaint you, that they intend to sit this Afternoon, at Five of Clock.

Ordered, That this House do meet this Afternoon, at Five of Clock.

Fifield Parsonage.

An Ordinance for Sequestring the Rents and Profits of the Parsonage of Fifield in the County of Essex, whereof Dr. Reade is now Parson, into the Hands of certain Sequestrators named in the said Ordinance, for the Use and Service of Constant Jesop Master of Arts, a godly, learned, and orthodox Divine; who is thereby appointed to preach every Lord's Day, and to officiate as Parson, and to take care for the Discharge of the Cure of the said Place, in all the Duties thereof, until further Order shall be taken by both Houses of Parliament; was this Day read; and, by Vote, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

All Souls College Oxforde.

ORDERED, That Mr. Berisforde do deposit the Rent due to the College of All Souls in Oxforde, into the Hands of Mr. Serjeant Wilde, who is required to detain the same, until this House take further Order: And this House will keep the said Mr. Berisforde indemnified.

Ordered, That the Tenants of Mr. Berisforde, that hold the College Lands of All Souls in Oxforde, by Lease from Mr. Berisforde, do forthwith pay the Rent Arrear to the said Mr. Berisforde.

Boys' Sequestration.

Ordered, That the Seventy Pounds in the Hands of John Spencer, due to Lieutenant Colonel Boys, now in actual War against the Parliament, shall be forthwith paid to Sir Hen. Heyman and Sir Edw. Boys, Two of the Committees of the County of Kent; according to the Ordinance for sequestring the Estates of Papists, &c. and to give an Acquittance for the same accordingly.

Stapkin's Protection.

Ordered, That Mr. John Stepkin, who hath contributed to the Parliament, shall be protected by this House; and that none presume to seize his Coach-horses.

Persons to attend.

Ordered, That Geo. Smith, Jo. Ladd, and such other Persons, as presume in a riotous and tumultuous Manner to disturb Sir Wm. Langley in the Possession of his Woods and Lands in Enfield, by cutting down his Trees, shall be forthwith summoned to attend this House; the House being informed, that the said Sir Wm. Langley contributes weekly to the Parliament, upon the Assessment, in a good Proportion.

Ireland.

Ordered, That the Bill be read To-morrow Morning concerning Ireland.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Earle went up to the Lords, to desire a Conference concerning the Matter of the last Conference; and to desire the Lords to hasten the passing of the Ordinance of the Lord Capell's Estate; and to desire . . . .

Treaty with the King, &c.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Dr. Bennett;

The Lords desire, that at this Conference they may offer some Alterations to the Instructions that are to be sent to the Committee at Oxon, relating to the Commissioners from Scotland.

This House has considered their Lordships Message; and does agree that the Lords shall, at this Conference, offer those Alterations.
