Firemakers 1761–1830

In 1799 the firemaker to the guard chamber was paid £40, that to the presence chamber £9 2s 6d. (fn. 1) These positions were abolished in 1830.

Lamplighters 1812–1837

The first lamplighter at Carlton House was established at £90 per annum; the second at £60 per annum. From 1830, these two officers became simply “lamplighters”.
