Pleading: Memo that on 5 November this term [1450] Henry Clerk of London, draper, appeared personally to be examined before the justices regarding a writ he brought against William Geffrey of London, currier, concerning a debt of £7, the writ being dated at Westminster on 20 October 1450, returnable at the octave of Michaelmas, namely 9 October 1450. HC said that he sought nothing against WG of the £7 except 13s 4d, and, when asked concerning his intentions in bringing the writ, he said the at the time he brought the original writ because he wanted to get WG into the king's prison so that he would appear in the bench to answer him regarding the debt of 13s 4d. And on this Thomas Hever, one of the attorneys of the bench, swore that he was of the council of HC, and said that at the time of the original writ, Henry had said to him that his intention was to get this writ returnable at the octave of Michaelmas so that WG would be delivered to prison and would be detained in London and brought here at this term to answer his writ. After which Henry Clerk and Thomas Hever were committed to the Fleet prison.

The condition of the bond is such that if JM should pay WC 3s 4d at All Saints, 3s 4d on the following Saturday, 3s 4d the following Saturday, and so on until the full £4 6s 8d be paid, then the bond shall be cancelled. However, if he should default on these terms, in part or in full, then the bond shall remain valid. However, JM states that he paid the sums in full on the proper days.

JS states that on 30 November 1448 he delivered a bond to HB for safe-keeping, the bond stating that a certain John Debenham was bound to a certain John Oxenden in £46, payable under given terms. This was to be returned to JS on request, but HB has refused to return it, to his damage of 40s. Pledges to prosecute named.

Pleading: John Thorston amerced for many defaults. Edmund, Abbot of Westminster, states that he was seised of an annual pension of 20s by right of his house, payable quarterly, from the hands of John Thorston, master of the college of St Lawrence Pountney, London, as his predecessors had always been seised from the hands of JT and his predecessors, masters and parsons of that church. However, seven years before the date of his original writ, dated 1 January 1450, the present master withdrew this payment, and has refused to pay, to his damage of £20.

Pleading: Matthew, William and Thomas Philip, citing the terms of the statute of 1429 relating to the use of an assize of novel disseisin or writ of trespass against those making unlawful disseisin of property [8 Henry VI, c.9], state that on 11 September 1450 John Aleyn and Robert Aleyn, together with William Carpenter, forcibly, and with 20 men arrayed for war, disseised them of a messuage and 14 acres of land in Herne, in contempt of the king, against the form of the statute and to their damage of £20.

Pleading: Thomas Davy states that on 31 March 1447 Hugh Curtenay bought from him 20½ yards of black woollen cloth, one yard of blue woollen cloth and 48 yards of blue woollen cloth for £7, payable on request, and on 26 October 1438 he bought a further 16 yards of russet coloured cloth, for 51s 9d, also payable on request. However, HC has not paid any of this debt, to his damage of 100s.

Pleading: HC states that he does not owe TD this or any money as claimed. Parties on country, jury here at octave of Hilary.

Pleading: Memorandum that Thomas Broun appeared on 16 October this term (1450) and showed his bill against Nicholas Delrowe, attorney of the bench as follows. TB states that on 26 December 1449 Nicholas Delrowe made two bonds with him, one in 50s payable at Hilary next, and another in 10m payable at the feast of the Purification next. However, ND has not paid either debt, to his damage of £20. He shows the bonds in court. Pledges to prosecute named.
