Navy.

A LETTER from Two of the Generals at Sea, dated from Kingsale 22 Maii 1649, was this Day read. Colonel Edward Popham relates to the House the State of the Fleet at Sea, and of the Ships of the Enemy, and in order to the present Service at Sea; and some Desires from the Generals now at Sea.

Ordered, That it be specially recommended to the Council of State, to give present Order for the Supply of the Remainder of the Provisions for the Fleet for the Six Months, to be sent to the Fleet at Sea, for the Carrying on of the Service, with all Expedition; and to take it into Consideration the First Business.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take care to fix the Eleven thousand Pounds formerly ordered for Provision for the Fleet for Two Months, after the Six Months, so that Five thousand Pounds thereof may he instantly sent away to Plymouth, for victualling the Fleet for those Two Months.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, that they do accept of such Bills of Exchange as shall be sent from * Hutchinson, Alderman of Dublin, for such Monies as he hath agreed to disburse for victualing the Ships there; and to provide Money, so that the same be presently paid, upon the Acceptance.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the Service done by Colonel Popham, in victualing and setting forth The Thomas: And that the said Ship be added to the Fleet.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into their Consideration the Proposition of Colonel Popham, touching the setting to Sea the Ship called The Fame of Waterford.

Ordered, That it be also referred to the Council of State, to take Consideration of the Proposition of Colonel Popham, touching the Building of Five new Frigates, to be set to Sea for the Service of the Commonwealth.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into Consideration the Business touching the Winter Guard; and how and in what manner, it may be provided and disposed of; and report the same to the House forthwith.

Ordered, That it be likewise referred to the Council of State, to consider of, and present to the House, some way, whereby a certain Establishment may be settled, that both the Summer and Winter Guard may be, from time to time, carried on; and speedily to report it to the House.

Prince Rupert's Instructions.

Prince Rupert's further Instructions for Captain Thomas Allen, touching the Execution of his Commission, bearing Date the Eighth of January 1649, were this Day read.

Ordered, That those Instructions be forthwith printed and published.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to give Order for the Printing and publishing of these Instructions; with Observations upon them, if they shall think fit.

Thanks to Col. Popham, &c.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Speaker do give the Thanks of this House to Colonel Edward Popham, for his faithful and great Service at Sea for the Commonwealth.

Mr. Speaker did give the Thanks of this House to Colonel Popham accordingly.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks, from this House, be written to the Two Generals, now at Sea, for their great and faithful Service for the Commonwealth: And that a Letter of Thanks be also written to Colonel Jones, for his Fidelity and good Service to this Commonwealth, in the Affairs of Ireland: And that he do acquaint Alderman Hutchinson, of Dublin, That the Parliament do take notice of his good Service, and Readiness to supply the Ships there with Provisions, as a very acceptable Service; and return him Thanks: And Mr. Challener and Mr. Stephens are to withdraw; and pen the said Letters to be sent, being signed by Mr. Speaker.

Dean and Chapters Lands.

Resolved, &c. That Ten Days further Time be added to the Time limited in the Instructions passed on Saturday last for all such Persons as live within Twenty Miles of London to come in, and double their Monies on Dean and Chapters Lands: And that the Trustees and Treasurers do admit the same accordingly.

Ordered, That the Instructions for the Trustees for Dean and Chapters Lands be forthwith printed and published.

Thanksgiving Day.

Resolved, &c. That Notice be taken, on the next Thursday, being a Day appointed for Publick Thanksgiving, for the great Mercy of God in the Success given to the Fleet at Sea, and the State of our Affairs there; and to give hearty Thanks to God for the same; and beg a further Blessing on their Undertakings: And that Sir James Harrington, Mr. Gurdon, and Mr. Strickland, do withdraw; and pen an Order to be sent to the Ministers for that Purpose.

Claringdon Park.

The humble Petition of the Earl of Pembroke and Mountgomery, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Committee of the Act for Sale of Parks, &c.; to take into Consideration the Interest and Title of the Earl of Pembroke to Claringdon Park; and report the State of it to the House; and how it may be provided for in the Act touching the Sale of Parks, &c.

Turner's, &c. Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of Richard Turner, Maurice Gethin, Tempest Milner, and Hannah Wollaston, be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning.

Westminster College.

Ordered, That Colonel Feilder do make Report from the Committee of Westminster College To-morrow Morning.

Deans and Chapters Lands.

Ordered, That it be referred unto a Committee, to prepare an Instruction for inlarging the Liberty given to such as will come in, and double upon Deans and Chapters Lands; and how such poor Persons, who have contributed upon the Publick Faith, who are not able to double their Monies, may be satisfied their Monies by Deans and Chapters Lands, without doubling, or otherwise, without Breach of the Faith of the Parliament to the rest of the Persons who are admitted upon Doubling: Viz. unto Mr. Stephens, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Goodwyn, Mr. Smith, Mr. Darley, Sir Henry Vane senior, Mr. Gourdon; or any Three of them.

Ld. Fairfax.

Ordered, That the Act touching the Lord General be reported To-morrow Morning, the first Business; nothing to intervene.

Prisoners.

Serjeant Rigby reports Amendments to the Bill touching Prisoners: Which Amendments were twice read; and, upon the Question, re-committed to the same Committee: And that they do hear any Persons that shall desire to be heard therein: And that the Committee do meet, To-morrow in the Afternoon at Two of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber; and so de die in diem; and make their Report to the House with all Speed.

And Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Marten are to take special Care hereof.

Thanksgiving Day.

Sir James Harrington reports a Draught of a Vote touching giving Thanks, on Thursday next, for the good Success of the Fleet at Sea: Which was read; and, with some Alterations at the Table, was, upon the Question, passed.

Ordered, That this Order be forthwith printed and published.

Ordered, That it be recommended to the Lord Mayor of the City of London, to cause this Order to be sent to all the Ministers within the City of London, and the Liberties thereof, in convenient Time, before the Day of Publick Thanksgiving.
