Prayers.

Provost Marshall, &c.

ORDERED, That Zacharias Bishopp, Provost Marshal for Middlesex and Westminster, be required and commanded, That, at all times, by Night and Day, he do look diligently to the Quieting of all Routs, Riots, and unlawful and disorderly Meetings of People, to the Disturbance of the Peace; and them to apprehend, and detain in safe Custody; and to bring them as speedily as may be, before some Justice of Peace for the said County of Middlesex and City of Westminster, to answer the same according to Law: And all Constables, and other Officers, are hereby also commanded to be aiding and assisting him the said Zacharias Bishopp in the lawful Execution of the Premises: And that the said Zacharias Bishopp shall hold and execute the said Place and Office for one Year now next coming.

Resolved, &c. That the Establishment of the Pay of Zacharias Bishopp, as Provost Marshal, be after the Proportion of One hundred Pounds per Annum.

Resolved, &c. That Twelve Men be allowed to the Provost Marshal, for the Service of the State: And that after the Rate of Twelve pence per diem be allowed unto each of the said Twelve Men.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Revenue, to pay to the said Zachary Bishopp the said One hundred Pounds per Annum, and after the Rate of Twelve-pence per diem for each of the said Twelve Men, out of the publick Revenue: And the said Committee are also to consider, Whether it be fit to allow him any more Men for the Service of the Commonwealth.

Admission of Members.

Resolved, &c. That Nathanael Bacon Esquire be admitted into the House.

Resolved, &c. That Francis Bacon Esquire be admitted into the House.

Blakiston's Claims, &c.

The humble Petition of George Blakiston, of Newcastle upon Tyne, Gentleman, with a Certificate of the Committee at Newcastle, dated 4 Martii 1645, were this Day read.

Ordered, That the Sum of Three thousand Pounds be paid unto the Wife and Children of John Blakiston Esquire, a late Member of this House, deceased, out of the Estates of Sir William Widdrington and the Earl of Newcastle, in the County of Northumberland, for Reparation of his Losses and Sufferings by the said Earl of Newcastle and Sir William Widdrington.

Ordered, That an Act be brought in to that Purpose.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five hundred Pounds be paid unto Geo. Blakiston Gentleman, out of the Estates of Sir William Widdrington and the Earl of Newcastle, in the County of Northumberland, for Reparation of his Losses and Sufferings for the State by the means of the said Earl of Newcastle and Sir William Widdrington: That an Act be brought in to that Purpose: And that Mr. Holland do bring in the said Acts.

Raynsborow's Family.

Ordered, That the Wife and Children of Colonel Raynsborow be admitted to come in for the Debt due to Colonel Raynsborow, and settled upon his Wife and Children, by Order of this House, for Satisfaction of the said Debt, upon Deans and Chapters Lands: And that an Act be brought in to that Purpose.

General Skippon.

Ordered, That Mr. Corbett do make Report of the Act touching Major General Skippon on Saturday next.

Ministers Maintenance.

Ordered, That the Act for Maintenance of Ministers be brought in on Saturday next.

Serjeant Bradshaw.

Ordered, That Serjeant Bradshaw's Merits and Deserts be taken into Consideration on Saturday next.

Grant to Ld. Fairfax.

An Act for settling Manors and Lands, of the clear yearly Value of Three thousand Pounds, upon Thomas Lord Fairfax, and his Heirs, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Mr. Darley, Serjeant Thorpe, Mr. Martyn, Mr. Thomas Challener, Mr. James Challener, Sir Henry Vane senior, Mr. Peirpoint, Colonel Bosvile, Sir Henry Vane junior, Mr. Trenchard, Sir Wm. Strickland, Sir William Allanson, Sir William Armyn, Mr. Corbett, Mr. Whittacre, Sir John Danvers, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Hum. Edwards, Colonel White, Mr. Leman; or any Five of them: And this Committee is to meet, on Friday in the Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Sir Henry Myldmay reports from the Council of State, their Opinion touching the Solemnity To-morrow.

Resolved, &c. That the Lord Mayor of the City of London, upon his Reception of the Speaker, and Members of Parliament, to deliver, into the Hand of the Speaker, the Sword usually borne before the Lord Mayor: And that the Speaker do thereupon re-deliver the Sword to the Lord Mayor.

Resolved, &c. That, as touching the Sitting at the Table, it be referred do the Council of State, to give such Directions therein, as they think fit.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, &c. That the Earl of Pembroke have Leave to go into the Country for his Health.

Adjournment.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Speaker, upon the Rising of the House this Day, do adjourn till Friday at Eight of the Clock in the Morning.

Dean and Chapters Lands.

Ordered, That the Votes and Instructions already passed to be given to the Trustees for Dean and Chapters Lands, be forthwith printed and published.

Irish Sufferers.

Resolved, &c. That the Sum of Five hundred Pounds be provided, to be distributed among such Persons of Quality as have lost their Estates in Ireland, and are now in great Necessities.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Glyde, and the rest of the Treasurers for Bishops Lands, be required to issue out and pay into the Hand of such Persons as shall be appointed by this House, the Remainder of the Two hundred thousand Pounds, borrowed upon the Ordinance of the Thirteenth of May, now remaining in the said Treasury undisposed of, in Part of the said Five hundred Pounds, to be distributed as aforesaid.

Ordered, That the Residue of the said Five hundred Pounds shall be paid out of the Assessment of the Twenty thousand Pounds a Month for Ireland: And that the Treasurers for the said Assessment be hereby authorized and required to pay the same unto such Persons as the Parliament shall appoint to distribute the said Five hundred Pounds.

Ordered, That the said Five hundred Pounds shall be paid to Sir Wm. Parsons, Sir Gerard Lowther, Sir Robert King, Sir Paul Davyes, and Colonel Hill; or any Three of them; to be distributed as aforesaid.

Ordered, That the List of the Persons of Quality that have lost their Estates in Ireland, and are now in very great Distress, and the Persons therein named, be specially recommended to the said Sir Wm. Parsons, and the rest of the Gentlemen intrusted with that Distribution.

Redemption of Captives.

An Act for Redemption of Captives taken by the Turkish and Moorish Pirates, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time on Saturday next.

London Poor.

The humble Petition and Desires of the President and Governors for the Poor of the City of London, and Liberties thereof, lately incorporated by an Act of this present Parliament, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the House called the Wardrobe, situate in or near the Black Fryers, London, be employed, by the said Corporation, for the Uses in the said Act mentioned, to employ some poor People at Work in.

Col. Blunt.

A Letter from the General, of the Thirtieth of April 1649, of Recommendation of Colonel Thomas Blunt to the place of Lieutenant of the Ordnance, was this Day read.

London Poor.

The Question being propounded, That the House in the Minories, wherein Sir John Heydon, Master of the Ordnance, formerly dwelt, be employed for the Use of the Poor;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put;

It was Resolved, &c. That the House in the Minories, wherein Sir John Heydon, Master of the Ordnance, formerly dwelt, be employed for the Use of the Poor.

Ordered, That Alderman Atkin and Alderman Wilson do bring in an Act to that Purpose.

The Mace.

Ordered, That the Mace made by Thomas Maundy, of London, Goldsmith, be delivered into the Charge of the Serjeant at Arms attending the Parliament: And that the said Mace be carried before the Speaker: And that all other great Maces to be used in this Commonwealth, be made according to the same Form and Pattern: And that the said Thomas Maundy have the Making thereof, and none other.

London Poor.

Resolved, &c. That the Sum of One thousand Pounds be given, out of the Duke of Buckingham's Estate, towards a Stock for the Corporation of the City of London, for setting Poor on Work, according to an Act of this present Parliament: And that Mr. John Corbett do bring in an Act for that Purpose.

Adjournment.

Ordered, That the House doth adjourn itself until Friday Morning, Eight of Clock.

Absent Members.

Ordered, That the Committee touching the Members that are absent, be injoined to bring in the List of the Names of the said Members on Saturday next, the first Business; nothing to intervene.
