Tuesday, August the 16th, 1659.

State of the Government.

THE House this Day, according to former Order, was resolved into a Grand Committee upon the Government.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Mr. Garland took the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Garland reports from the said Grand Committee, That they desire Leave of this House, to sit on this Day Sevennight, upon the Government.

Resolved, That this House be resolved into a Grand Committee upon the Government, on this Day Sevennight: And that Mr. Speaker do forbear to take the Chair.

Army.

Sir Arthur Hesilrig reports from the Council of State, That the House be acquainted, That, upon the present Occasions, the Council have thought fit to send for the Three Regiments of Foot that were in Flaunders, to come to London: And humbly offered, that the House would approve of it:

That the Council may have Power to continue such of them as they shall approve of: And that Mr. Speaker sign Commissions for them, accordingly:

That such of the Three Regiments of Foot, and One Regiment of Horse, in Dunkirk, as shall be approved of by the Council, may have Commissions signed by the Speaker; and sent to them forthwith:

That Colonel Bridges may have his Commission for Major of that Regiment of Horse; and to have Colonel's Pay allowed him.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of what the Council have done in sending for the Three Regiments of Foot that are in Flaunders, to come to London.

Resolved, That the Council be, and are hereby, impowered to continue such of them as they shall approve of: And that Mr. Speaker sign Commissions for them, accordingly.

Resolved, That such of the Three Regiments of Foot and One Regiment of Horse, in Dunkirke, as shall be approved of by the Council, shall have Commissions signed by the Speaker; and sent to them forthwith.

Resolved, That Colonel Bridges shall have his Commission for Major of that Regiment of Horse; and that he have Colonel's Pay allowed him.

A List of Names of Commission-Officers for the Militia in the County of Carmarthen was read; and the Officers therein named, upon the Question, approved of; and were as followeth; viz.

David Morgan Esquire, Captain to a Troop of Dragoons; Morgan Lloyd Gentleman, Lieutenant; Richard Williams Gentleman, Cornet.

John Lloyd Esquire, Colonel, John Phillipps, CaptainLieutenant; Tho. Jones, Ensign.

Tho. Morgan Esquire, Lieutenant-Colonel; Maurice Thomas, Lieutenant; Morgan David, Ensign.

Militia Commissioners.

Ordered, That Captain Wm. Farrar, Alderman Ward of Pontefract, Captain Hodgson, Mr. Horton, Captain Hatfeild, Captain Robert Salmon, Mr. Washington of Leedes, Mr. Atkinson, Mr. Christopher Copley, Mr. Wm. Beckwith, Captain Francis Wilkinson, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of York: And that they be, and are hereby, impowered and authorized to act as fully, to all Intents and Purposes, as if they had been named Commissioners, in the Act for Settling of the Militia in England and Wales; and as fully as any other Commissioners, in the said Act named, are thereby empowered and enabled to do.

Ordered, That Mr. Thomas Newton Mayor of Chesterfeild, Mr. Gabriel Wayne, Mr. Wm. Tomlinson, Mr. James Fulwood, Mr. Bedford of Chesterfeild, Mr. Wm. Watkinson, and Mr. Richard Peters, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Derby: And that they be, and are hereby, impowered and authorized to act as fully, to all Intents and Purposes, as if they had been named Commissioners in the Act for Settling of the Militia in England and Wales; and as fully as any other Commissioners, in the said Act named, are thereby impowered and enabled to do.

Militia Commissioners.

Ordered, That Mr. William Elvis, Mr. John Wilson, Mr. John Hoe, Mr. Richard Drakeford, Mr. Stephen Ward, Mr. Tho. Crompton junior, Colonel Edward Ashenhurst, be, and are hereby, added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Stafford: And that they be, and are hereby, impowered and authorized to act as fully, to all Intents and Purposes, as if they had been named Commissioners in the Act for settling the Militia in England and Wales; and as fully as any other Commissioners, in the said Act named, are thereby impowered and enabled to do.

Ordered, That the Bailiffs of the Town of Great Yarmouth for the Time being, Mr. Robert Roberts, and Mr. John Allerson, Alderman, Isaack Wreston, and Mr. Wm. Scapes, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Norfolk: And that they be, and are hereby, impowered and authorized to act as fully, to all Intents and Purposes; as if they had been named Commissioners in the Act for settling the Militia in England and Wales; and as fully as any other Commissioners, in the said Act named, are thereby enabled and impowered to do.

Ordered, That Mr. Richard Caswell, and Mr. Edmond Seares of Hampton, Mr. Catten of Sunbury, and Mr. Barrell of Thissleworth, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Middlesex: And that they be, and are hereby, enabled and authorized to act as fully, to all Intents and Purposes, as if they had been named Commissioners in the Act for settling the Militia in England and Wales; and as fully as any other Commissioners, in the said Act named, are thereby enabled and authorized to do.

Ordered, That Edward Page be, and he is hereby, added a Commissioner for the Militia in the Hamlets of the Tower of London: And that he be, and is hereby, enabled and authorized to act as fully, to all Intents and Purposes, as if he had been named a Commissioner in the Act for settling the Militia in England and Wales; and as fully as any other Commissioner, in the said Act named, is thereby enabled and impowered to do.

Ordered, That John Bendish, named a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of Suffolk, in the Act for settling the Militia in England and Wales, his Name being mistaken in the said Act, and made Tho. Bendish, be amended: And that he be, and is hereby impowered and authorized to act as fully to all Intents and Purposes, as if he had been rightly named in the said Act.

Ordered, That Mr. John Goodwin do report the Bill for settling the Revenue, To-morrow Morning.
