Prayers.

Gift to Laycock.

ORDERED, by the Parliament, That the Sum of Three Pounds be forthwith paid unto Margarett Laycock, a distressed Widow, out of the Monies in the Box: And that the Serjeant at Arms attending this House do pay the same to her accordingly: And the Acquittance of the said Margaret Laycock shall be a sufficient Discharge for Payment thereof accordingly.

Ordered, That the Sum of Forty Shillings be forthwith paid unto Mrs. Holland, out of the Monies in the Box: And that the Serjeant at Arms attending this House do pay the same to her accordingly: And the Acquittance of the said Mrs. Holland, for the Payment thereof, shall be a sufficient Discharge therefor.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five Pounds be forthwith paid unto * Jennings Waterman, out of the Monies in the Box: And that the Serjeant at Arms attending this House do pay the same to him accordingly: And the Acquittance of the said * Jennings shall be a sufficient Discharge for Payment thereof.

City Petition.

Ordered, That the City Petition be taken into Consideration This-day-sevennight.

Army.

Major Salwey reports from the Committee appointed to prepare something to be offered to the House, for avoiding the Inconveniences and Mischiess arising by the Abuses of Soldiers in their March towards Ireland, A Draught of an Order.

Which was read.

And, being put to the Question;

It was Resolved, by the Parliament, That the Officers belonging to the Recruits and Forces, which now are, or hereafter shall be, raised for the Service of this Commonwealth in Ireland, do constantly attend their respective Charges: And that the said Recruits and Forces shall march directly to their Port, without any unnecessary Delay; and shall, in their March to the Sea-side, quarter in Inns and Ale-houses only; and pay for what they have: And all Constables, and others concerned, are to take Notice and Care hereof: And the several Commissioners for the Militia, or monthly Assessments, or any Two of them, are hereby authorized and required to give their Assistance, in their respective Counties, that this Order be duly observed, and performed accordingly.

Ordered, That this Order be forthwith printed and published.

Ordered, That the Council of State do take care that this Order be sent into the several Counties through which these Recruits are to pass, to the respective Commissioners for the Militias, and for the Monthly Assessments, and to the Constables, that they do take care the same be observed accordingly.

Army.

Ordered, That the List of the Soldiers of the Parishes of Bradford, Leeds, and other adjacent Towns in the County of Yorke, mentioned in the Order of Parliament of the Seventh of August 1648, be reported from the Northern Committee, on This-day-fortnight, the first Business.

Tythes, &c.

Ordered, That Sir James Harrington do bring in an Act on This-day-sevennight, for the due Payment of Tythes, and other Duties.

Iron. &c.

Colonel Marten reports Amendments to the Act for melting down Iron with Stone Coal, and other Coal, without Charking thereof; and for granting the Benefit of the said Invention to Jeremy Buck, for Seven Years: Which were this Day read the First and second time; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Resolved, That the said Bill be ingrossed.

Dover Harbour.

A Letter from Dover, of the Four-and-twentieth Day of February 1650, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the said Letter be referred to the Council of State, to consider thereof; and present their Opinion to the Parliament, how the Harbour at Dover may be preserved, and the Mischief prevented; and what Revenue there is for maintaining the said Harbour; and how the same is disposed of.

Delinquents Estates.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Amendments to the Bill for Sale of the Estates of several Delinquents.

Mr. Garland reports a Proviso to be added to the Act for Sale of Delinquents Estates, in these Words following; viz. "Provided always, and be it further Enacted, That all and every Person or Persons having any Estate, Right, Title, or Interest, of, in, or unto, any the Lands Tenements, or Hereditaments, by this Act intended or mentioned to be put to Sale; or that hath any Statute, Judgment, Recognizance, or Rent, upon which such Lands are liable; and shall make it appear to the Committee in this Act named, That such Estate, Right, Title, Interest, Statute, Judgment, Recognizance, or Rent, were, without Fraud, and for good and valuable Consideration had, made and acknowledged, before any Treason respectively committed, by any of the Traitors in this Act named; and shall obtain an Allowance thereof by the said Committee, before the Nine-and-twentieth Day of September 1651; That then the same shall be good and effectual to such Person or Persons, their Heirs, Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, respectively, to all Intents and Purposes, according to the Tenor thereof; any thing in this Act to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding."

Which Proviso was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

And the Question being put, That this Proviso be Part of the Bill;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it passed with the Affirmative.

Ordered, That the Debate upon the Amendments of this Act be adjourned until To-morrow Morning, the first Business.

Building Ships.

Ordered, That the Act for Building of Ships be read on Wednesday Morning, the first Business.

Late King's Property.

Ordered, That the additional Act for Sale of the late King's Goods be reported on Wednesday Morning next, after the Bill touching Building of Ships.

Hopkinson's Claims.

Mr. Trenchard reports, The Order of the Committee to whom the Petition of Anne Hopkinson Widow was referred; "That Mrs. Hopkinson have Three hundred Pounds allowed unto her, out of the Sequestrations of Yorkshire."

Ordered, That the said Sum of Three hundred Pounds be allowed to the said Anne Hopkinson, as a Debt upon the Publick Faith: And that the be admitted to double the said Three hundred Pounds upon Sale of Delinquents Estates.
