PRAYERS.

Church Government.

RULES, to be observed by the Assembly, were read; and recommitted to the Committee of this House, appointed to be of the Assembly; to speak with some of the Divines of that Assembly, concerning the same.

Listing Horses.

The Amendments to the Ordinance for listing of Horses was read; and recommitted to the same Committee, to be brought in upon Monday Morning: And Mr. Bainton is to take care of the same.

Hampden, a Prisoner.

Ordered, That Mr. Alexander Hampden shall have Leave to go to Captain Basse's House at Hackney, for the Recovery of his Health: And that Captain Basse do take care, that his Keepers be continually with him.

Adjournment.

The House adjourned till Twelve Clock, and went to the Sermon preached before the Assembly; and returned at the said Hour.

Army Physicians.

Ordered, That Dr. Paul de Laune, and Dr. Nathaniel Chamberlaine, Physicians, shall be forthwith sent to the Army, for the Service of the Army: And this House doth declare, that whatsoever Physicians, or Surgeons, shall be employed, by this House, into the Army, shall have the same Allowance as others formerly have had: And the Two Surgeons now to be employed shall have their Chests furnished with Necessaries, each of them to the Value of Twenty Pounds: And the Committee for the Safety is ordered to give Warrant for the Wages and Provisions for the said Persons: And the Master and Wardens of the Apothecaries are ordered to view the said Chests, that they be good: And the Surgeons are to be approved of by this House.

Chambers' Petition.

The humble Petition of Dr. Chambers was read; and ordered to be referred to Mr. Holland; who is to report his Opinion thereupon unto this House.

Richaut's Sequestration.

Ordered, That Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Nicholas do prepare an Ordinance for the selling of the Adventure of Fifteen hundred Pounds, belonging to Sir Pet. Richaut, in the Hands of the East India Company; and to convey the Interest to such as shall buy the same.

Army Physicians.

IT is this Day Ordered, That One hundred Pounds apiece, by way of Advance, shall be allowed to the Two Physicians appointed to go to the Army; viz. to Dr. Delaune One hundred Pounds, and to Dr. Chamberlaine One hundred Pounds: And the Committee of the Safety is ordered to grant their Warrants accordingly.

Bills of Exchange.

Ordered, That this House shall accept of the Bills of Exchange from the City of Bristoll, for the Payment of * * , which they have lately paid to Sir Wm. Waller; and that Mr. Trenchard take care to see the same paid.

Exchange of Prisoners.

Ordered, That Captain Bidlocke, or Mr. Wood, now Prisoners by the Order of Parliament, shall be released, for the Exchange of Captain Kekwiche of Stonehouse, now Prisoner in Cornewall.

Prisoners of War.

Ordered, That all the Keepers of the Prisoners be required, on Monday Morning next, to present to the House the Names of such Prisoners as are in their Custody, being taken in Arms against the Parliament.

Wardship.

Ordered, That whosoever has paid any Monies at Oxford for any Wardship, since the Order of this House forbidding the same, shall repay the same to this House for the Service of the Commonwealth: And whosoever hath or shall compound for any Wardship since the said Order, that their Estates shall be sequestred.

Ordered, That the Lords be moved to join herein, and that this Order be printed.

Army Committee.

A Letter from the Lord General of the Thirtieth of June, was this Day read; desiring a Committee of both Houses might be sent unto the Army, to confer and debate of Things of great Necessity.

Bailing Devoreux.

The humble Petition of Sir George Devoreux was read: Whereupon it is Ordered, that he shall be forthwith released, upon Bail.

St. Nicholas, Rochester, Minister.

Upon the humble Petition of the Mayor, Aldermen, and other Citizens and Inhabitants of the City of Rochester, desiring, that a painful and laborious Minister may preach every Lord's Day, in the Church of St. Nicholas in Rochester, and every Fast Day in the Month; they having procured the Consent of Mr. Larkin, their Pastor; it is Ordered, that Mr. John Piggott, a godly and learned Divine, shall preach there every Lord's Day, according as is desired, and on the usual Fast Days: And the Churchwardens of that Parish, and all other Persons, are hereby required, not to give any Interruption to the said Mr. Piggott, but to permit him quietly to perform his Duty, in preaching to the Parishioners of the said Parish, as aforesaid.

Conference desired.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Lewis do go with a Message to the Lords, to desire a Conference concerning a Letter from my Lord General, for a Committee of both Houses to come to the Army; and concerning the King's Children at St. James'; and concerning some Letters received from Ireland.

Sir Robert King.

Ordered, That Sir Robert King shall not have Mr. Speaker's Pass, nor shall go hence, till the Committee lately appointed to settle the Business of Ireland have reported the same to the House.

Richaut's Sequestration.

The Ordinance to sell the Adventure of Sir Peter Richaut in the East India Company, for the Use of Sir Wm. Waller, was read; and, upon the Question, assented to.

Sir John Hotham.

The Letter to Sir John Hotham, in Answer to his, concerning his Son, was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Saddles, &c. for Lincolnshire.

Ordered, That a Warrant issue forth, under Mr. Speaker's Hand, on the Behalf of Captain Harrington, to convey Sixty Saddles with their Furniture, Arms for Three Horses, and Three Case of Pistols, into Lincolnshire.

Pickering's Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of Captain Pickering be referred to the Committee for Irish Affairs.

Sir Dudley Carleton.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Dudley Carleton shall have Twenty Days more allowed him, for his coming over into England.

Order revoked.

Resolved, &c. That the former Order, for the Redelivery of Three Horses to Mr. Pinchon of Writtle, shall be revoked.

Examination of Lord Portland, &c.

Mr. Pym reports from the Committee present at the Examination of my Lord Portland and Mr. Waller, that my Lord Portland desired Mr. Waller might be examined to divers Questions; which was assented unto: And what my Lord Portland affirmed Mr. Waller denied, for most part: And a Letter of Mr. Waller's own Handwriting to my Lord Portland, was read, which he writ to him, to confess the Truth; he hoping to get Leave of the Committee to send it him: Which they refused to consent unto, but kept the Letter, and let Mr. Waller go with his Keeper, and confer in private with my Lord Portland: Which Letter Mr. Waller affirmed, did purport the Substance of the Matter he spake.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Waller shall not be brought to the Bar till Tuesday Morning next.

Message to Lords.

Sir Wm. Lewis went up with the Message; and carried up with him the Ordinance for Sir Wm. Waller; and also the Name of Mr. Billers, to be added to the Committee for Leicester.

White's House.

Mr. Corbett reports from the Committee of the Tower, the Averseness in the Earl of Bathe to let Mr. White take Possession of the House designed him in the Tower: Whereupon it is Ordered, That Mr. Marten, Sir John Corbett, Sir H. Hayman, Mr. Morley, and Mr. Pym, be added to the Committee formerly appointed to see Mr. White put into Possession of the said House, according to a former Order.

Answer from Lords.

Sir Wm. Lewis brings Answer, that the Lords will give a present Conference, as is desired; and that they agree to Mr. Billers to be a Committee for Leicester, and to * * * *

Message from Lords.

Message from the Lords, by Sir Robert Riche and Mr. Page;

That the Lords desire, at this Conference, to communicate to the Commons a Letter from my Lord General; and that now, upon the Beginning of this Assembly, desire that a Fast be kept; and that it may be on Friday next; and that Mr. Rolls and Mr. Gattacre may preach.

Answer.

Answer returned by the same Messengers, that this House doth agree with their Lordships in all the Things desired in this Message.

Conference.

Mr. Recorder, Sir Ro. Harley, and Mr. Reynolds, are appointed Managers and Reporters of the next Conference.

Warrant to go to Oxford.

Resolved, &c. That the Agent for the Portugall Ambassador shall have Mr. Speaker's Warrant to go to Oxford with his Servants, presenting first a List of their Names.

Associated Counties.

Ordered, That the Petition of the Six Associated Counties be referred to the Committee for the Counties associated.

Army Committee.

Sir Robert Harley reports from the Conference, that the Lords did read a Letter from the Earl of Essex, desiring a Committee of both Houses may be sent to the Army, to debate on special Affairs.

Which Letter was read.

Resolved, &c. That Members of this House shall be sent to the Army, according to the Desire of my Lord General.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Rob. Rich and Mr. Page;

That the Lords have appointed Two Lords to go to my Lord General, according to his Letter.

Sir Wm. Armyn, Sir John Evelyn, Sir Wm. Lewis, and Mr. Lisle are appointed to go with a proportionable Number of the Lords, as a Committee, to my Lord General, according to a Letter this Day sent by his Excellency to both Houses.

Greenwich Ferry.

Whereas Information is this Day given, that divers Persons that have come from Oxford, or other Parts of the King's Army, have passed to and fro with their Coaches, Horses, and Arms, over the Ferry at Greenwich: It is therefore Ordered, that Captain Willoughby be required to stop the Passage to that Ferry on this Side the Thames, by cutting a Ditch, that no Coach, Cart, or other Carriage, may pass that way: And the Deputy Lieutenants of the Counties of Kent and Middlesex be required to take care, that no Horses, Arms, or other Ammunition, or Persons suspected, do pass that way: And that they appoint some to be constantly there, to search such as they shall think fit, that endeavour to pass that way.
