Prayers.

Molineux's Estate.

A BILL to vest certain Lands of Wm. Molineux, Gentleman, in Trustees, for raising the Sum of Two thousand Pounds for paying Portions to his younger Brother and Sisters, pursuant to a Decree in Chancery, was read a Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Mr. Harcourt, Mr. Hedger, Sir John Dorrell, Mr. Freeman, Mr. Shackerly, Mr. Christie, Sir Rob. Davers, Mr. Goldwell, Sir Wm. Lemon, Mr. Clarke, Sir Rob. Henley, Mr. England, Mr. Biddolph, Sir Jerv. Elwes, Sir Tho. Darcy, Mr. Jennings, Mr. Hawtry, Mr. Hedger, Mr. Dyott, Mr. Waller, Sir Walter Young, Sir John Moreton, Mr. Hutchinson, Sir John Key, Mr. Lutterell, Mr. Tredenham, Mr. Burdett, Mr. Henley, Sir Cha. Bloys, Mr. Kendall; and all the Members that serve for the Counties of Lancashire and Cheshire: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Four of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Ditto.

A Petition of Reginald, George, and Eliz. Molineux, was read; setting forth, That the Petitioners Father settled his Estate upon Trustees to pay his Debts; Remainder to his Son Wm. and his Heirs in Tail Male; Remainder to his other Sons for the like Estate; Remainder to the Petitioner Eliz. and her Sisters: And that the Petitioner's Father dying, his eldest Son took Possession of the Estate, and obtained a Decree for Payment of the Debts, and died: And the said Wm. is gotten into the Possession thereof: but refuses to raise the Petitioners Portions, or to allow them any Subsistence; but is endeavouring to get an Act to sell the said Estate much to the Prejudice of the Petitioners, the Remainder-Men: And praying the Consideration of the House in the Premises.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the Committee to whom the Bill to vest certain Lands of Wm. Molineux, Gentleman, in Trustees, for raising the Sum of Two thousand Pounds, for paying Portions to his younger Brother and Sisters, pursuant to a Decree in Chancery, is committed.

Cripps' Estate.

A Bill for the Sale of the Estate of John Cripps, Gentleman, in the County of Kent, and settling another Estate of greater Value, in lieu thereof, to the same Uses; was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Mr. Brewer, Mr. Bridger, Sir John Dorrell, Mr. Bedding feild, Sir Cha. Bloys, Sir Wm. Honeywood, Colonel Lee, Sir Walter Young, Mr. Cooke, Mr. Burdet, Mr. Dyott, Mr. Ramsden, Mr. Freeman, Mr. Henley, Sir Rob. Davers, Mr. Waller, Mr. England, Mr. Tredenham, Mr. Christie, Mr. Sherrard, Sir Rob. Henley, Mr. Preston, Mr. Brockman, Mr. Hawtry, Mr. Biddolph, Mr. Hedger, Mr. Fuller, Sir Tho. Curtis' Estate.

An ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act for the more speedy Payment of the Debts of Eliz. Curtis, Widow, late deceased; and Performance of an Agreement touching the same, made between Cha. Curtis, in his Life-time, and Edward Erle, according to a Decree in the High Court of Chancery; was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Mr. Bickerstaffe, Mr. Parkhurst, Sir Rob. Davers, Sir Wm. Whitlock, Sir Walter Young, Mr. Bertie, Mr. Lutterell, Mr. Ettrick, Sir Jos. Tredenham, Mr. Burridge, Mr. Dyott, Sir John Knight, Mr. Cary, Mr. Price, Mr. Christie, Mr. Berkley, Mr. Waller, Mr. Hunt, Mr. Clarke, Serjeant Tremaine, Mr. Cooke, Lord Wm. Pawlett, Sir John Bancks, Sir Rob. Cotton, Mr. Hedger, Mr. Bedding feild, Mr. Carter, Mr. Tredenham, Mr. Chadwick, Mr. Hawtry, Mr. England, Mr. Goldwell, Sir John Moreton, Mr. Thornhaugh, Mr. Speke, Mr. Fenwick, Sir Edw. Earl of Salisbury's Estate.

A Petition of Sir Richard Bulkly, Baronet, was read; setting forth, That Sir Geo. Downing, deceased, by his Will, devised the Ten thousand Pounds, that was to be paid as the Lady Catherine's Portion, to his Son, among his Daughters; viz. Four thousand Pounds to Lucy the Petitioner's Wife, and Two thousand Pounds apiece to his other Daughters; but that, of the Ten thousand Pounds, there has not been paid as yet but Four thousand Six hundred Fifty Pounds; and thereby there is a considerable Sum due for Interest, as well as Principal: And praying the Consideration of the House in the Premises, before the Bill does pass for the Payment of the Earl of Salisburye's Debts and Legacies.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the Committee to whom the ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act for the better securing the Portions, Debts, and Legacies, given and owing by James late Earl of Salisbury, is committed: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Four of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber: And that Mr. Cook and Mr. Christie be added to the said Committee.

Dean of St. Paul's to preach on 30 Jan.

Ordered, That the Dean of St. Paul's be desired to preach before this House at St. Margaret's, Westminster, upon the Thirtieth Day of January instant: And that Mr. Dyott, Mr. Biddolph, and Mr. Arnold, do acquaint him therewith.

Campion's Will.

Then the House took into Consideration the Amendments, made by the Lords, to the Bill for the better enabling the Trustees and Executors of Richard Campion, deceased, to perform his Will.

And the same were read; and are as follow:

Press 3. Line 25, after "Enacted," insert "by and with the King and Queen's most Excellent Majesties."

Press 3. Line 3, for "implied," read "employed."

And the said Amendments, being read a Second time one by one, were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That Mr. Christie do carry the Bill to the Lords; and acquaint them, That this House hath agreed to the said Amendments.

Davile's Estate.

Then the House took into Consideration the Amendments, made by the Lords, to the Bill to enable Wm. Davile to sell some Lands, for Payment of his Debts.

And the same were read; and are as followeth; viz.

Press 1. Line 10, for "Manbry," read "Mawbry."

Line 13, the same.

Press 2. Line 29, the same.

Press 4. Line 29, after "Survivors," add "Survivor."

And the said Amendments, being severally read a Second time one by one, were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That Mr. Christie do carry the Bill to the Lords; and acquaint them, That this House hath agreed to the said Amendments.

Reducing Interest.

Sir Edward Hussey, according to the Order of the Day, reports from the Committee to whom the Bill for lessening the Interest of Money was committed, That they had made several Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House: And which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, with some other Amendments made in the Chair, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Morley have Leave to go into the Country for Three Weeks, for Recovery of his Health.

Ordered, That Mr. Anchitell Gray have Leave to go into the Country for Three Weeks, upon extraordinary Occasions.

Punishing Mutiny and Desertion.

An ingrossed Bill for the punishing of Mutineers and Deserters, preventing false Musters, and paying the Army according to the Musters of effective Men, and for the better Paying of Quarters, was, according to the Order of the Day, read the Third time.

An Amendment was proposed to be made, in Press last, Line *, by leaving out "Twentieth December;" and inserting "Tenth January;" and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

An ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider to the Bill; For the Officers to pay to the respective Alehouses and Innkeepers, and others upon whom any Soldiers shall be quartered in the Town of Hull, Eight-pence per Week for Lodging, Small Beer, Fire, Candle, and dressing Victuals of each Soldier; and that the Barracks belonging to that Garison, shall, from time to time, be filled with such a proportionable Number of Soldiers, as the Governor, Lieutenant, or Commander in Chief, shall judge convenient; so as that One-half of the Soldiers shall always be received in those Barracks.

And was read the First time.

And the Question being put, That the Clause be read a Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for the Punishing of Mutineers and Deserters, preventing false Musters, and paying the Army according to the Musters of effective Men, and for the better Paying of Quarters.

Ordered, That Mr. Attorney General do carry the Bill to the Lords; and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Registering Seamen.

Resolved, That this House will, To-morrow Morning at Ten a Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Bill for the more speedy and effectual furnishing their Majesties Navy and Merchants Ships with Seamen.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir Bryan Stapleton have Leave to go into the Country for Three Weeks, upon extraordinary Occasions.

Ways and Means.

Then the House, according to the Order of the Day, resolved itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of Ways and Means for raising the Supplies to be granted to their Majesties, for the carrying on a vigorous War against France.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Mr. Solicitor General took the Chair of the Committee.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Solicitor General reports from the said Committee, That they had considered of the Petition of the Merchants, and others, that serve the Navy with Stores, &c. and also of the Petition of divers Artificers and Tradesmen serving their Majesties Office of Ordnance (the Consideration whereof were referred to the said Committee); and had come to a Resolution, in relation thereunto; which they had directed him to report to the House: And which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Table: Where the same was read; and is as followeth; viz.

Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That towards the making good the Sums of Money intended to be given by an Act in the Second Year of their Majesties Reign, intituled, An Act for granting to their Majesties several additional Duties of Excise upon Beer, Ale, and other Liquors, for Four Years, from the time that an Act for doubling the Duty of Excise upon Beer, Ale, and other Liquors, during the Space of One Year, doth expire, the additional Duties of Excise, granted by the said Act, be continued until the Seventeenth Day of May 1697, for the Uses in the said Act mentioned.

The said Resolution being read a Second time;

Resolved, That this House doth agree with the Committee in the said Resolution, That, towards the making good the Sums of Money intended to be given by an Act in the Second Year of their Majesties Reign, intituled, An Act for granting to their Majesties several additional Duties of Excise upon Beer, Ale, and other Liquors, for Four Years, from the time that an Act for doubling the Duties of Excise upon Beer, &c. during the Space of One Year, doth expire, the additional Duties of Excise, granted by the said Act, be continued until the Seventeenth Day of May 1697, for the Uses in the said Act mentioned.

Mr. Solicitor General also acquaints the House, That he was directed by the said Committee to move, That they may have Leave to sit again.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Monday Morning next, at Eleven a Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of Ways and Means for raising the Supplies to be granted to their Majesties, for the carrying on a vigorous War against France.

Dover Harbour.

Ordered, That the Report from the Committee of the whole House, to whom the Bill for the Repair of Dover Harbour, was committed, be made To-morrow Morning after Eleven of the Clock.

Newton's Estate.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir John Hoskyns and Sir Robert Legard;

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act for settling the Manor and Lordship of King's Bromly, and other the Messuages, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments of Barbara Newton, Widow, Relict of Sam. Newton, late of the Island of Barbadoes in America, Esquire, deceased, and John Newton, Esquire, Son and Heir of the said Samuell by the said Barbara: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Causes in Chancery.

Also the Lords do put this House in mind of the Bill, intituled, An Act for regulating Hearings upon Bills of Review in Chancery, and other Courts of Equity.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read upon Monday Morning, after Ten a Clock.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir John Manwaring have Leave to go into the Country for Three Weeks, upon extraordinary Occasions.

Clandestine Mortgages.

Ordered, That Sir Rob. Edon, Mr. Thornhaugh, Sir John Key, Mr. Hutchinson, be added to the Committee to whom the Bill for the better preventing of clandestine Mortgages, is committed.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Eight of the Clock.
