Prefixing:—Memorial from the Board of Works to the Treasury of 1734, May 2. The staircase leading to the Queen's great apartment at Hampton Court was never yet furnished, and the wainscot thereof much out of repair. Are of opinion it would be advisable to take away the wainscot and embellish the walls and ceiling of said staircase, which are at present only whitewashed with ornaments painted on canvas in chiaro oscuro.

70. Report to the King from the Treasury concerning the method necessary to carry out certain proposals laid before the King from the Lords of the Committee of Council for purchasing the right of certain proprietors, and of certain lessees under them, in the Bahamas. To comply therewith the sums to be paid are, to the Proprietors, viz. the Duke of Beaufort, Lords Carteret, Craven, and Berkeley, Sir John Colleton, and Robert Abdy as one of the executors of Sir John Tyrrell, deceased, 1,000 guineas each clear of expenses, and 2,000l. to lessees under them. Great difficulties may arise from the various titles thereto. Said purchase will be of advantage to Great Britain, as said islands are convenient for the reception of British ships. Therefore hope that the faithful Commons will provide the money, as they did in 1728 for the purchase of North Carolina.

71. Same to the Treasury from the Customs Commissioners, London, on the petition of Jonathan, son and executor of Edward Perrie, late Surveyor General, and of Charles Dunbar, present Surveyor General of Customs in the Barbados, Leeward Isles and the Bermudas. Perrie was appointed by warrant 1709, November 25, and during the war had frequent opportunity of visiting the islands under his survey without expense under an Admiralty order for the men-of-war on that station to carry him as the service required. On the conclusion of peace he was obliged to hire sloops for that service, receiving the expense from the collector of Barbados, who charged same in his accounts. Dunbar succeeded Perrie by warrant, 1717, April 30, and was obliged to the same method in visiting the islands. He has received his expenses, 1717–31, on this head from the collector of Barbados, but the Comptroller General cannot pass same in the collector's account for want of a proper authority. Birchfield, Surveyor General of the Northern Continent of America, had a treasury warrant, 1712, October 22, for 80l. per annum for sloop for above purpose. Therefore advise allowance of the amounts in question. 3 pages.

Warrant under the royal sign manual to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, prescribing that at all times when the pay of the regiments remaining in Ireland shall be issued, the like pay or subsistence of the eight regiments removed to England shall be set apart and reserved, as if the said eight regiments were still in Ireland, and forthwith remitted to the Paymaster General, England, and not issued or applied to any other purpose whatever: this in order to obviate all future complaints about the delays in the remittances from Ireland on account of regiments on the Irish establishment serving abroad and entitled to English pay.

73. Jos. Fox, naval officer, South Carolina, to the Treasury, dated from Charleston. On visiting Georgetown, Wyniaw, found that the quarterly accounts by his predecessor had not been returned. Has appointed Wm. Swinton deputy at said port, who has made out the account as herewith. Has also sent to Port Royal for the accounts of that port. 1 page.
