CHARITIES FOR THE POOR.

A Mr. Briggs left £10 before 1724; (fn. 1) the income was possibly still being received in 1830. (fn. 2) A like sum left by a Mr. Smith at an unknown date had been lost by 1786. (fn. 3) James Burtenshaw by will proved 1832 left £50 to be distributed in bread at Easter; (fn. 4) in 1964 the income was for the general benefit of the poor. (fn. 5)
