THURGARTON A LEE WAPENTAKE. Was in the Conqueror's time two, Torgerton and Lyda, which I suppose now only make the two divisions; the first contains the townships from Nottingham down the river Trent as far as Averham, and the other all below. In the record of Nom. Vill. 9 E. 2. the King is lord of the wapentake of Thorgarton and Lythe, and so still continueth as I think.
