Firemakers and Chamber Keepers c. 1673–?

The chamber keeper and firemaker to the yeomen of the guard was appointed by warrant of the captain of the yeomen of the guard to the clerk of the cheque. He made £9 2s 6d per annum. (fn. 1) Two such servants served from at least 1689. The firemaker and chamber keeper to the presence chamber was appointed by the gentleman usher, black rod. In addition, a firemaker to the gentlemen ushers was appointed between 1718 and 1760. He made £20 per annum. (fn. 2) The chamber keeper to the officers of the horse and footguards also made £20 per annum. (fn. 3)
