Second Class Clerks 1856-70
This grade was created in 1856. The number of Second Class Clerks was then fixed at sixteen. It was reduced to fifteen in 1859, to fourteen in 1860, to thirteen in 1862 and to twelve in 1866. (fn. 1) The salary scale attached to the grade in 1856 was £350 rising by annual increments of £20 to £600. (fn. 2)
