Accountant and Assistant Accountant 1855-70

The offices of Accountant and Assistant Accountant were created in 1855. (fn. 1) The salary of the Accountant was then fixed at £600 rising by annual increments of £60 to £800. In 1858 the scale was assimilated to that of the First Class Clerks: £700 rising by annual increments of £25 to £900. In 1859 a new scale was established beginning at £500 and rising by annual increments of £20 to £800. In 1868 this was raised to £600 rising by annual increments of £20 to £850. (fn. 2) The salary of the Assistant Accountant was fixed in 1855 at £350 rising by annual increments of £15 to £450. In 1859 the maximum was increased to £500. In 1869 a fixed salary of £550 was substituted. (fn. 3)
