July 30. Privy seal for allowing to Sir John Witham (who in the absence of Sir Richard Dutton, Governor of Barbados, has commanded in chief there from 1683, May 1) 600l. per an. being a moiety of the said Chief Governor's salary: from said 1683, May 1, for such time as said Witham shall continue Lieut.-Gov. of said island: the present privy seal being in accordance with the royal sign manual of 1682, Dec. 10, ordering that the Lieut.-Gov. of said island should have such moiety salary when resident and acting as such Deputy in the absence of the Governor. Further the said Dutton is hereby to be paid 100l., without account, for providing accommodation for his retinue and baggage upon his return to the said government.
