Gilbert Steevens of —, tailor, to give evidence against Charles Leye [Lee], his late servant, for cozening him with false tokens.
The said Charles respited to prison at the will of the Court and paid a fine of £5.
Forasmuch as upon the prosecution of the said Gilbert against the said Charles it appeared that the said Charles had fraudulently obtained and gotten into his hands a jewel worth £20, being the goods of Sir Richard Hawkins, Knight, which was by him left in the custody of the said Gilbert, and also 24s. in money, which belonged to the said Gilbert, which said jewel and money came into the possession of Edward Jorden, headborough of Wapping; and forasmuch as the said Charles likewise fraudulently obtained a silver cup of his said master's, which cup came into the possession of Martin Cornelius, a broker, it is therefore ordered by the Court that the said Jorden and Cornelius restore the said jewel and money and cup to the said Gilbert Steevens.

Respited to prison without bail, for a writ of the King for receiving prisoners from the Court of King's Bench. Afterwards found guilty, and have judgment to forfeit all their lands during their life and all their chattels for ever, and that they be placed outside the protection of the Lord the King, and reimprisoned without bail during the will of the Lord the King.

John Ball of St. Clement Danes, tailor, and Elizabeth his wife brought in touching the misusing of Joan Akerley [Hackerley, Wakerley] their servant, and for not paying £3. 15s. 4d. to Richard Gamon, a butcher, without Temple Bar, which they owe for meat that the said Joan has fetched at several times by her master's appointment. It appears to the Court that the said John Ball and his wife have given undue correction to the said Joan at several times, and have thrown a naked knife at her, therefore she is to be discharged out of their service, and for the money due to the butcher it is left to the common law, and the said John Ball promises to deliver the said Joan her clothes.

The said Joan swore in court that John Ball would have the use of her body at divers times, and she was handed in bail to Thomas Cliffe of Clifford's Inn, gentleman, and John Rudstone of High Holborn, gentleman.

The said Joan handed over further in bail to Francis Smyth of St. Giles'-in-the-Fields, victualler, and seeks the peace against the said John Ball, deposing as above, and also that he wrongfully charged her to have stolen a kidney and half a loin of mutton (and pp. 103, 123, 145).
