Bond's petition to be restored to Council.

Mr. Sharpe, attending, with Mr. Kingston, their Lordships took again into consideration the Order of Council of the 20th of July last, upon the petition of Francis Bond, Esquire [folios 230, 249], late one of the members of His Majesty's Council in Barbadoes, praying that he may be restored to his former place and precedency in the said Council, or otherwise constituted one of the said Council on the first vacancy, mentioned in the Minutes of the 5th of August last, as also read a letter from Sir Robert Sutton and another from Mr. Newport, signifying the death of Mr. John Lucy Blackman, late one of the Council of that Island, and recommending Mr. Bond to supply the said vacancy.

Representation.

These gentlemen being withdrawn, their Lordships gave some directions to prepare the draught of a representation upon the aforesaid Order in Council.

Letter from Mr. Worseley.

A letter from Mr. Worseley, Governor of Barbadoes, dated the 1st of July last, was read, as also.
A list of the names of twelve persons fit to supply vacancies in the Council of the said Island.

St. Christophers.

Letter from Mr. Moore, Charles Pym, Esq., Councillor.

Representation.

A letter from Mr. Moore, recommending Charles Pym, Esquire [folio 249], to supply a vacancy in the Council in the Island of St. Christophers, in the room of Major Richard Holmes, lately deceased, was read; whereupon ordered that a representation be prepared accordingly.

Letter from Colonel Hart.

A letter from Colonel Hart, Governor of the Leeward Islands, dated the 26th of July last, was read, as also

Some queires in relation to the tryal of Mr. White, who killed one cary there.

Sent to Mr. Fane.

Ordered that the said queries be sent to Mr. Fane [folio 274], for his opinion thereupon in point of law, as soon as may be.

A letter from Mr. Delafaye, secretary to the Lords Justices, referring to the Board, by order of their Excellencies, copies and extracts of some letters from Mr. Coleman, His Majesty's Resident at the Court of Florence, Mr. Skinner, the British Consul at Leghorn, and Mr. Crowe, Chaplain to the Factory there, in relation to certain duties payable at Leghorn, was read; whereupon ordered that several Leghorn merchants be acquainted that the Board desire to speak with them thereupon on Thursday morning next.

Antigua.

Representation, Act.

John Vernon, Esquire.

A representation, ordered to be prepared the 21st of the last month, for confirming an Act, passed at Antego, the 1st of May, 1724 [folio 239], entituled, An Act for cutting off the entail of certain lands, tenements and hereditaments in Antego, belonging to John Vernon of the Parish of St. James's, Westminster, Esquire, was signed.

Leghorn merchants.

Mr. Alderman Porteen, Sir John Lambert, Mr. Jackson and some other merchants trading to Leghorn, attending, as they had been desired, their Lordships acquainted them with the subject of the reference from the Lords Justices, and of the other papers, therein referred to, (mentioned in the Minutes of the 4th instant), and desired they would let their Lordships have their opinion thereupon, as soon as may be, which they promised to do accordingly.

Nevis.

Mr. Fance's report, Debenture.

Mr. Fane, attending, presented to their Lordships his report upon the claim of Thomas Chezus as administrator of the real and personal estate of Richard Weldon [folio 243] and his wife, deceased, to a Debenture No. 567 for £76 2s. 2d., which was read.

Barbadoes.

Representation, Mr. Bond's petition to be restored to the Council.

A representation upon an Order in Council of the 20th of July, mentioned in the Minute of the 5th of August last, referring to the Board a petition from Mr. Bond, late one of the councillors of Barbadoes, praying to be restored to his place in the said Council, ordered to be prepared the 4th instant, was agreed and signed; as also

St. Christopher.

Representation Charles Pym. Esquire a Councillor.

A representation for proposing Charles Pym Esquire [folio 246] to supply a vacancy in the Council of St. Christophers, occasioned by the death of Major Richard Holmes.

The three following letters from Mr. Worseley, Governor of Barbadoes, were read, and the papers, therein referred to, laid before the Board, viz:—
A letter from Mr. Worseley, dated the 13th of September, 1725.
Minutes of Council in Assembly, from the 13th of April, 1725, to the 3rd of August following.
Proceeding in the Court of Grand Sessions in June, 1725.
Proceedings in the Court of Grand Sessions in June, 1725.
Proceedings in the several Courts of Common Pleas, from Christmas, 1724, to the 20th of August, 1725.
Proceedings in Chancery, from the 14th of April, 1725, to the 4th of August following.
An Act for laying an imposition or duty on wines or other strong liquors imported into this Island, in order to raise money to carry on the fortifications for payment of such persons as are or shall be imployed at the public charge, and for such other public uses as are herein appointed.

A second letter from Mr. Worseley, dated the 14th of August, 1725.
An Act requiring all persons what soever in this Island to produce to the Treasurer for the time being all orders for money due to them from the public of this Island.
Passed in 1725.
An Act to prevent the dangers which may happen to the inhabitants of this Island from contagious distempers brought here by ships or other vessels arriving from foreign parts.
Passed in 1725.

A third letter from Mr. Worseley, dated the 1st of October, 1725.
The deposition of Gilbert Alberson and John Reeves, etc., taken at Barbadoes the 4th of September, 1725.
An Act to prevent the vessels that trade here to and from Martinique or else where from carrying off any negro, indian or mulatto slaves, persons indebted or contracted servants.
Passed in 1722.

Ordered that the beforementioned Acts be sent to Mr. Fane, for his opinion in point of law.

Trade.

Paper from Mr. Oxenford.

The secretary then laid before the Board a paper from Mr. Oxenford [folio 243], which he had been desired to prepare the 28th of the last month, containing abstracts of several Acts of Parliament, in relation to ships that enter inwards and clear outwards, to and from this kingdom, which was read; and their Lordships resolved to consider further thereof at another opportunity.

Accounts from the Custom House. Rice.

The following accounts were laid before the Board, viz:—

Accounts from the Custom House.
An account of what quantity of rice has been imported into this Kingdom from the British Plantations, from Christmas, 1717, to Michaelmas, 1724, with an account of duties paid for the same, and what has been entered for exportation, and to what places, with the drawbacks allowed thereupon for the same time.
Tar and pitch.
An account of what quantity of tar and pitch has been imported from the British Plantations for seven years last past, and how much of it has been exported again, and to what places.
An account of what plantation tar has been imported in to England since the 29th of September last.
Naval Stores.
An account shewing what quantity of Naval Stores were imported from Russia or the East Country, from Christmas, 1700, to Christmas, 1704, and likewise what has been imported from the same places, from Christmas, 1720, to Christmas, 1724, distinguishing the countries whence imported.

New foundland.

Letter from Colonel Gledhill.

A letter from Colonel Gledhill, Lieutenant Governor of Placentia [folio 189], dated the 10th of October, with the papers undermentioned, were read, viz:—

General Nicholson. Queries for his answer.

General Nicholson, attending, as he had been desired, their Lordships took again into consideration the several letters from him, mentioned in the Minutes of the last meeting [folio 256], and after some discourse with him thereupon, gave him several queries in relation to the state of that Province, to which they desired, he would give his particular answer in writing; and he promised to do it accordingly.

Jamaica.

Mr. Miranda, Answer to Duke of Portland's condemnation of indigo.

Hearing desired.

Sir Nathaniel Lloyd to attend thereupon.

Mr. Miranda, attending, presented to the Board his answer to the papers sent by the Duke of Portland [folios 190, 267] in relation to the condemnation of some indigo at Jamaica, (mentioned in the Minutes of the 23rd of June last), which was read; and he desired their Lordships would please to appoint a day for hearing what he has to offer further upon this subject. The Board then appointed this day sen'night, and ordered that Sir Nathaniel Lloyd, His Majesty's Advocate General, should be acquainted with the Board's desire of speaking with him upon this subject on Wednesday morning next at 11 o'clock.
