Indenture made 15 January, 5 Edward III:, witnessing that John Strelley of Hasilbache, esq., 'ought' to Richard Bakewell 'for laberyng hys materes,' and expenses in two years last past, and 'for iij. yer' bourde of hym and hys wyffe and hys chylder,' 48l. 6s. 7d. (In different ink.) And this is due to the said Richard 'with a more some in a peyr of indenturs afor tyme made and be the parties indeferently aselet'. Also the said John has given to the said Richard all 'the ferme of the lordshippe of Hasilbache with in the erthe and abufe for this viij. yer' last past yf he can recover of the exec' of' Sir William Vernon, knt., Henry Vernon, esq., Nicholas Eyr of Redcetes, Nicholas Sywarde of Bradwall, or of any other man that has occupied the said lordship, 'that is to wyt in viij. yer' clxli. and more. Grant by Thomas Forde of Merden to Ralph Somner of the parish of Eastmallyng of all the land, &c. in the parishes of Waldern and Chydyngle which descended to him after the death of Joan Forde, his mother, as parcel of the land,. &c. called 'Marchallyslandez'; on condition that Ralph pay 26s. 8d. at Christmas next, 26s. 8d. at Midsummer following, and so on to Midsummer, 1470. Dated at Waldern, Trinity Sunday, 2 Edward IV. The payments to be made at Ralph's dwelling (mansionem) in Eastmallyng. Seal, damaged.

Indenture whereby Sampson de Strelley, knight, reciting that Hugh de Annesley holds the manors of Fryeston 'Bi the Water' and Ferebrigg for life by his demise, with all lands, reliefs, marriages, &c., with reversion thereof expectant to himself and his heirs, rendering therefore yearly 60s. at Martinmas and Whitsuntide; and reciting that Emma late the wife of Roger de Strelley holds for life divers lands in Strelley and Newthorp which were of the inheritance of William son of Thomas de Strelley, with reversion thereof expec- tant to himself and his heirs; grants the said rent and reversions to Thomas, his son, for life, to hold of him and his heirs, at the rent of a peppercorn for all service. Memorandum endorsed that the feoffment is to be void on payment to William of 5l. within fifteen days of the feast of St. Martin in Winter in the year within written.

Quitclaim by Thomas Alfray, John Morys, Andrew Hasilden, Richard att Mell and John Stanlee, to John Alfray, being in his possession, of their right in all the land, &c., which, jointly with him, they had by the gift of Richard Alfray by charter of even date. 4 October, 36 Henry VI.

Confirmation by Philip son of Walter de Boketon to the master and brethren of the hospital of the Holy Trinity without Norhamton of the demise and farm of land, &c., which they have in Boketon by the grant of William, his brother, for twenty years; with bond in 10l. for their quiet enjoyment. Dated in the said hospital, in the octave of St. John the Baptist, 12 Edward II.

Indenture witnessing that whereas John Worthe, of Tenterden enfeoffed William Jamyn and John Ingram of the same of 18a. land and wood, called 'Jakystenement,' in the parish of Ikclesham, in the tenure of Gestelyng; the said William and John by these presents gave him the said land on the following condition, viz. if and when they are lawfully put out of four pieces of land, or any part thereof, in the parish of Tenterden upon the denne (dennam) of Haukerst, which they had by the feoffment of William Worthe of Wynchelse, at the suit of Juliana late the wife of William Amery of Smallyde, or of Thomas Heymes, their heirs and assigns, or be not within fifteen days satisfied of any expenses, &c., had on that account, it shall be lawful for them reenter upon the said four pieces of land and hold them in their pristine estate. 6 May, 9 Henry VII.

Grant by Philip Yonge, receiver to the lord de Audeley, Hugh Walter, Robert Tuchet and Richard Wod, to Hugh Egerton, esquire, of a messuage, with garden adjacent, in Betteley, between the High Street and land of St. Mary's, &c., with a parcel of pasture at 'le Mere Hoke,' extending from the said 'Mere' to land of the abbot of Hulton, which they lately had by the gift of Thomas Wod of Betteley. Grant by John Awbrey of Hornecastell, chaplain, and John Smyth, of the same, to Thomas Moigne, esquire, John Travers, clerk, and John Ormesby, of three cottages in Hornecastell on the west of a sewer (seuere) there called 'le Bayne,' viz. between 'Armynlane' and land called 'Themylby Thyng,' &c., which they had inter alia by the gift of John Whyte. 12 May, 7 Edward IV. Grant by John son of Jordan le Marschal of Notingham to Robert Fraunceys of Notingham and Legarda his wife, and his heirs, of a messuage with buildings there above and below ground in the Saturday market of Notingham, late Roger de Henoure's. Defeasance of a recognizance of 100 marks in the chancery wherein Robert son of Robert de Strelleye is bound to William de Cantelupo, knight, Richard de Wiluby and Robert Russel; viz. if he pay the king at the exchequer 100 marks for which they are sureties, half on the morrow of St. Lucy and half in the octave of the Purification. Grant by Henry Brokherst of Iseldon to Andrew Michell, William Brokherst, Richard Welde, John Gamelyngey, John Mayhew of Kentyston, Thomas Baveyn, Simon Kyng, John Heyborne and William Lese, of 12a. land in a field called 'le Downehill' in the parish of Haryngey which Stephen atte Feld of Haryngey, who has released his right to the said Henry Bokhurst, and the said Henry, had by the gift of John Godfrey of Haryngey and Alice his wife, daughter and heir of John Crouch. 28 November, 8 Henry V. Grant by William son of Godfrey to Roger de Cadetruwe of all the land [of] Boneweya (terram Boneweye), at 'la Fenne,' with the rent and service of Richard Lange; the boundary of the land is from Thomas Donnyng's garden to 'Bittilane hevede,' thence to 'la Clam- pitten,' thence to 'la More in la Willak,' to the garden again; rendering therefore yearly 2s. 6d., for all service; when a relief is due (cum dicta terra fuerit relevianda) they shall give for ward, relief and marriage, ½d.; for this Roger gave him 9 marks beforehand. Kent. C. 4430. Grant by John Wulsy of the parish of Yaldyng to Thomas Owde and John Owde of the same of four parcels of land with a 'lake' in the borough (burgh[er]a) of Rugmerehyll in Yaldyng, containing 10a., &c. 29 December, 19 Henry VII.

Mountgomery, 'yoman,' to John Wyn ap David ap William and David ap John ap Hoell Gethyn of a messuage called Tyddyn Jev[a]n ap Lle[wel]in Saez and of all his land, &c., in the towns and county aforesaid, to the use of himself for life and after his death to the use of the heirs both male and female between him and Elizabeth verch Jevan Vychan, whom he proposes to take to wife, begotten, with remainder to his own right heirs. Indenture made at Bettele, 5 April, 26 Edward III., between Sir John de Haukeston of the one part and Nicholas de Haukeston, his brother, and William Baillif of Hodynet, chaplain, of the other, witnessing that whereas Sir John has enfeoffed them of the manors of Wryme, Madele, Onele, Audele, and Stanlawe, and other land, &c., in Leek, Chetylton, Wythenford and Haywod and also given them all his goods and chattels as appears by a charter and deed thereof made; they grant for themselves and their heirs that they will reenfeoff him and Anable, his wife, and the heirs of their bodies of the said manors, &c., and give him back the said goods, &c., when it shall please him; otherwise the charter of feoffment and grant of goods to be void. Grant by Richard Streche of Wasford, for his soul and the souls of his wife and parents, to the prior and monks of St. Mary Magdalen of Barnastapolia, of ½ mark rent from his land of Wasford in pure alms, for increase of the ½ mark which he owed before, so that he and his heirs pay 1 mark therefrom forever, with right of distraint both in his land of Derte and in his land of Wasford. Indenture quadrupartite, whereby Michael Shakewey of Berham, reciting that he had enfeoffed Thomas Goldyng, Richard Smothe and Simon Goldyng, of Berham, and Richard Mynot of Bourne, of all his land, &c., in the parishes of Berham, Kyngeston, Stellyng, Orgoryswyke and Seintemaricherche, or elsewhere, co. Kent, without any condition, declares nevertheless that his will is:—that Parnel, his wife, after his death have all the said land, &c., for her life and that after her death all the land, &c, which they have in Kyngeston, Orgoryswyke, and Seintemaricherche, parcel thereof, remain to John Cherche and Isabel his wife, his daughter and her heirs and assigns; and that all the land, &c, which they have in the parish of Stellyng, at Pinestede, and in the parish of Berham in places called 'Southberham' and 'Southderyngeston,' which latter were late of Thomas Bakere of Berham remain after her death to Richard son of John Denne and to Eleanor his wife, and the heirs of Richard; and that all the land, &c., which they have in the parish of Berham in places called 'Calbergh,' 'Grenehell,' 'Berhammed,' 'Pykelottemere,' and 'Hamme,' and by 'Barhamcherche' after her death be sold and the money received therefrom disposed for the souls of William his father and Ellen his mother, and for his own soul, and for the souls of Cecily and Parnel, his wives, and for the souls of his children and of all faithful deceased, in works of charity, &c; provided that the said John Cherche and Isabel his wife be preferred purchasers thereof by 100s. Demise by Lucy le Coroun for her life to Ralph de Hasel- welle of the dower coming to her by the endowing of Sir Patrick de Haselwelle, of the demesne arable of the said Sir Patrick, with meadows, gardens, fisheries and with two cottages, saving to her the other dower assigned to her by the escheator of the earl of Chester. in the said town of Haselwelle; rendering to her therefore yearly 31s.; grant by Ralph that she may distrain for the said rent on all his land, &c., in the said town.
