Prayers.
Gilbert's Lease.
THE humble Petition of Elizabeth Gilbert, setting forth, that Sir William Houghton, being possessed of the Manor of Stapleford in the County of Cambridge (belonging to the Dean and Chapter of Ely) for certain Years, and having purchased the Reversion in Fee, did sell the Reversion, with the reserved Rents, to the Petitioner; and, after, sold the remaining Term to one Mr. Wakefield, who knew of the said Grant made to the Petitioner, and could not expect to renew the Lease; that she having, as she hopeth, a just Title to the renewing of the said Lease, and, to that Purpose, his Majesty's Royal Letters were directed to the said Dean and Chapter, yet the Dean and Chapter have refused to admit the Petitioner Tenant to the said Church; humbly praying, that she may have the Lease granted to her; and that the said Dean and Chapter may be prohibited to grant the said Lease to any other; was read.
Ordered, That this Petition be and is hereby recommended to the Commissioners appointed by the King's Majesty to settle Differences between Ecclesiastical Persons and Purchasers, to do the Petitioner Right herein; and the said Dean and Chapter of Ely be and are hereby required to forbear to make any Lease of the said Manor of Stapleford, until the said Matter be heard by the said Commissioners.
Ordered, That Mr. Hollis be desired to take care, that Right be done to the said Elizabeth Gilbert the Petitioner, according to his Majesty's Pleasure, signified in his Royal Letters in that Behalf; and, in case the Petitioner be not relieved accordingly, to report the Matter of Fact, and the Proceedings therein, to this House.
Privilege.
The House being informed, that the Person of Mr. Nosworthy, a Member of this House, was assaulted in his Chamber by one Mr. Henry Nicholls, to the Breach of the Privilege of this House;
Resolved, That Mr. Henry Nicholls be sent for, in Custody, by the Serjeant at Arms attending this House.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Privileges, to examine the Matter of Fact, touching the assaulting of the Person of Mr. Nosworthy, a Member of this House, in his Chamber, by Mr. Henry Nicholls; to state the same; and report it to this House.
Excise.
Mr. Pryn, according to the Order of Yesterday, gave an Account to this House, how the Business stands upon the Bill for settling the Excise; and of the Proceeding of the Committee therein.
Ordered, That the Committee to whom it is referred to consider what Debts stand charged upon the Excise, be revived; and do give a speedy Account of the same to this House: And that Sir Thomas Clergys do take care hereof.
Militia.
Mr. Knightly reports a Bill for settling of the Militia of the Kingdom: Which was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time upon Tuesday Morning next.
A Letter, purporting some Miscarriage of some Person or Persons, under colour of acting as a Commissioner for the Militia, was offered to the House to be read:
Upon Debate whereof, the Question being propounded, That the said Letter be now read;
And the Question being put, That That Question be now put;
It passed with the Affirmative:
And the main Question being put, That the said Letter be now read;

Attainder of Oliver Cromwell, &c.
Ordered, That Mr. Thomas do make Report of the Amendments to the Bill of Attainder, To-morrow Morning, at Ten of the Clock.
Clerk of the House.
Mr. Speaker acquaints the House with the humble Suit of Mr. Jessop, Clerk of this House, that this House will be pleased to dispence with his Absence, and excuse his not attending the Service of this House, being suddenly sent for into the Country, his Wife lying at the Point of Death.
Resolved, That Mr. Jessop be and is hereby excused for not attending the Service of this House, upon this Occasion.
Northern Borders.
Ordered, That the Lord Howard do bring in a Bill for preventing of Theft and Rapine upon the Borders of England, on Tuesday Morning next.
Committees.
Ordered, That the respective Committees to whom the Bills concerning the Earl of Bristol and the Marquis of Winchester are referred, do sit on Monday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in Mr. Speaker's Chamber.
