RESOLVED, &c. That Sir Robert Fenne be forthwith discharged from any Seizure or Restraint.

Privilege- breaking into a Member's Chamber, &c.

Mr. Clive reports from the Committee appointed to examine the Business touching the Taking away of Mr. Francis Charleton, an Infant, out of the Possession of Mr. Robert Charleton, a Member of this House, and breaking into his Chamber, and forcibly carrying away his Servants.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth declare, That the forcible taking away of Mr. Francis Charleton out of the Chamber of Mr. Robert Charleton, a Member of this House, and breaking open his Chamber, whilst he was attending the Service of the Publick, is a Breach of Privilege. And

It is Ordered, That Wm. Taunton, Joseph Rogers, and Andrew Bateley, Actors in the said Business, be committed to the Serjeant at Arms attending this House: And that they remain in Custody, until the Body of Mr. Francis Charleton be delivered unto Mr. Robert Charleton; or this House take further Order.

Ordered, That the Business touching the Taking away Mr. Francis Charleton, out of the Possession of Mr. Robert Charleton, a Member of this House, be re-committed, as to the Examination, Whether Henry Gregory was an Actor in the forcible Taking away of Mr. Francis Charleton, out of the Chamber of Mr. Robert Charleton, a Member of this House.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Mr. Hakewill and Mr. Page;

The Lords send you an Ordinance touching Commissions to be granted for raising Horse and Foot, for settling the Peace, and suppressing Tumults in Huntingtonshire: Lord General's Letter touching the Isle of Ely; which they do communicate to this House: An Order touching the Lady Gray; wherein they desire the Concurrence of this House: The Petition of Elianor Browne, Wife to George Browne, of the County of Berks, Esquire: And an Order thereupon; to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The Lords command us to put you in mind of the Field Soldiery and Officers for Ireland.

Malden Election.

The Clerk of the Crown was called in; and did deliver in the Writ touching the Election of a Burgess for Malden in the County of Essex.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Privileges, to examine the whole Matter touching the Return of a Burgess for the Borough of Mauldon in the County of Essex; and to deliver their Opinions upon the whole Matter, to the House, with all convenient Speed: And the Committee of Privilege is revived; and appointed to meet this Afternoon at Two of Clock, in the usual Place: And all the Lawyers of the House are added to this Committee; and are enjoined to attend upon this Business.

A Member restored.

Resolved, &c. That the Order formerly made, for respiting Mr. Walter Long's sitting as a Member in this House, be discharged.

Payment to Ly. Gray.

Ordered, That the Treasurers at Goldsmiths Hall do pay to the Lady Elizabeth Gray, or her Assigns, the full Sum of Two hundred Pounds, that was assigned her under the Marquis of Ormond's Hands, as Part of that Money which was appointed to be paid unto his Lordship.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and do agree to the Ordinance for Commissions to be granted for raising Horse and Foot, for Preservation of the Peace of the County of Huntington: And, to the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Ld. Ormond.

Mr. Onslow reports from the Committee of Lords and Commons for Irish Affairs sitting at Derby House, a Letter from Paris, the Thirtieth of May 1648, from the Lord Ormond.

Ordered, That the Restraint, whereby the Payment of the Lord Ormond's Money at Goldsmiths Hall was checked, be taken off, and discharged; and the Monies paid according to former Order.

Ordered, That the Treasurers at Goldsmiths Hall do pay unto Wm. Perkins, Citizen of London, or his Assigns, the full Sum of Two hundred Pounds, that was assigned him under the Marquis of Ormond's Hands, as Part of that Money which was appointed to be paid unto his Lordship.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Waller went up with the Message appointed him on Saturday last: And likewise carried the Order for the speedy and effectual bringing in the Assessments for the Army: The Order for paying Two hundred Pounds to the Lady Grey, out of the Monies payable to the Lord Ormond, upon his Assignment.

Raising Forces in Huntingdon.

Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, in Parliament assembled, That Power be given to the Committee of Lords and Commons sitting at Derby House, to grant Commissions unto such Captain or Captains, and their inferior Officers, as they shall think fit, for the Raising of Horses and Foot, for the securing the County of Huntingdon, and suppressing Tumults in those Parts.

It is Ordered, That a Work be added upon the Hill to Upnor Castle; and that Twenty Men be put in it; and an Establishment made for it; and Monies provided for the Erecting and Perfecting of it.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to provide Monies, for the erecting and perfecting the Work to be made upon the Hill, and added to Upnor Castle; and to consider of an Establishment for it; and where and how it shall be charged and paid.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks be returned to Captain Peter Pett, for his very faithful and good Service done to the Parliament, in his Deportment during the late Rebellion in Kent, for the Safety of Chatham Yard, the Ships and Stores there.

It is further Ordered, That the Examination of the whole Business, concerning these Persons, be referred to the Committee of the Navy: And the Care of this Business is more particularly referred to Colonel Thompson.

Gratuity to Seamen.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to consider of those Seamen, Officers and Mariners, that, to testify their faithfulness to the Parliament, have deserted the revolted Ships, and have suffered Damage thereby; and to bestow a Gratuity upon them, towards Recompence for their Losses; and to encourage them to continue in the Service of the Parliament.

A Letter from Colonel Robert Duckenfield, from Chester, of 17 Junii 1648, was read.

A Letter from Sir George Booth, from Dunham, his House of 17 Junii 1648; with an inclosed, directed to Sir George Booth, dated London, June 13 1648, and subscribed "Your loving Friends of the City, though nameless."

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to grant a Commission to Captain Wm. Carter, according to the Desires of Colonel Robert Duckenfield, expressed in his Letter, of 17 Junii 1648, directed to the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks be returned to Sir George Booth; with a Desire unto him, That, if he can, he will discover unto the Committee at Derby House the Names of those Persons that wrote those suspicious and undermining Letters unto him.

Ordered, That on Thursday Morning next, the Petition from the City of Chester be read.

A Letter from the Committee of Canterbury, of the Fourteenth of June 1648, was this Day read.

Volunteers in Devon.

A Warrant, under Sir Hardres Waller's Hand, of 17 Maii 1648, for inlisting well-affected Volunteers in the County of Devon, was read; and likewise an Engagement of divers well-affected Volunteers of the Town of Ilfordcombe, of 12 Junii 1648, desiring Sir Hardres Waller to appoint a fit Person to command them.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Waller brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Ordinance touching the Sequestration of Delinquents in the County of Monmouth, and South Wales; and to all the other Orders carried by him.

Militia.

Resolved, &c. That the Ordinances for the Militia be forthwith put in Execution in the Counties of Cornwall and Devon: And that no Forces be raised by any other Authority in those Counties.

Inlisting Soldiers.

Ordered, That Mr. Dodderidge do prepare a Letter, to be sent to Sir Hardres Waller, to acquaint him, That this House has received Information of his granting a Commission, or Warrant, of 27 Maii 1648, for Inlisting; and with the Vote passed touching this Business; and to desire him to forbear any further Proceedings or acting upon any such Commissions or Warrants; and to recall such as are granted in this Kind.

Devon Militia.

Ordered, That Sir John Bampsield, Sir John Northcott, Sir Francis Drake, Sir John Younge, Mr. Erle, and Mr. Waddon, be desired to go into the County of Devon, to settle the Militia of the said County.

Saltpetre, &c.

Ordered, That the Order touching Saltpetre and Gunpowder be read To-morrow Morning, the first Business.
