The cause of this case remains unknown as only Elrington's bond of 25 April 1640 survives.

Edward Elrington of Birch Hall, co. Essex, esq, was the son of Edward Elrington of Birch Hall, co. Essex, esq, and Sibbell, daughter and coheir of Thomas Haddock of Buriton, co. Southampton. Edward married Anne, sister of Sir Augustine Sotherton of Norwich, knt.

Edward Polhill of Burwash was the second son of John Polhill of Burwash (d.1611), and Elizabeth, daughter of Nicholas Fowle of Wadhurst, co. Sussex. Edward married Deborah, daughter of Robert Bankworth of Bow Lane, London. Edward's second wife was Jane, daughter of William Newton of Lewes, esq, whom he married on 10 July 1614. Edward became rector of Etchingham and died on 11 October 1654.
