February - October 1638
Abstract
George and Richard Greaves were cited to appear before the Court of Chivalry on 8 February 1638 by Bradshawe for scandalous words provocative of a duel. On 20 October 1638 there was reference to Dr Duck being required to prove the libel and to a possible agreement between the parties; but no further proceedings survive. [For George Greaves's counter suit see cause 252].

Summary of proceedings
Dr Duck acted as counsel for Bradshawe and Dr Exton for Greaves. On 20 October 1638 Dr Duck was required to prove the libel. There was also a note in the margin suggesting that a settlement may have been reached between the two parties: 'concordat Mr Latham'. However, there was no further reference to such an agreement.

There was a George Greaves of Hill juxta Stanton [now Stanton-in-the-Peak], co. Derby, the younger brother to John Greaves (b.1607), and mentioned in G. D. Squibb (ed.), The Visitation of Derbyshire, 1662-1664 (Publications of the Harleian Society, new series, 8, 1989).
