Samuel Baron of King's Lynn, co. Norfolk, M.D. v Richard Waters of the same
September 1637 - January 1638
Abstract
Baron, a doctor of physic, charged Waters with scandalous words provocative of a duel. On behalf of Waters, Dr Talbot responded to Baron's libel on 28 November 1637. A commission was appointed to meet 13-15 December 1637 at an inn in King's Lynn, headed by Valentine Pell of Dersingham, co. Norfolk, esq, and John Green, the town's mayor; but no further proceedings survive.

Summary of proceedings
Dr Lewin acted as counsel for Baron and Dr Talbot for Waters. On 18 November 1637, Waters was summoned to appear in accordance with his bond. On behalf of Waters, Dr Talbot responded to Baron's libel on 28 November 1637. A commission was appointed to meet from 13 to 15 December 1637 at an unnamed inn in King's Lynn, consisting of Valentine Pell of Dersingham, co. Norfolk, esq, Mr Thursby of Ashwicken, co. Norfolk, esq, Godfrey Cobbs of Gayton, co. Norfolk, gent, and Thomas Drury, gent, and also Francis Parlet, esq, John Greene, mayor of Lynn, Walter Kirby gent, and Robert Awborne, gent.
Notes
Dr Samuel Baron of King's Lynn petitioned the king for an allowance for remaining at his post in the town during the time of the plague, and in January 1640 was awarded £70 by the Privy Council. He appeared in the 1664 Visitation of Norfolk, and his will was proved on 21 May 1673.
