BLOCKLEY
(22 miles N.E. of Cirencester)
(1) Probable Settlement (SP 150345), Romano-British, at Upton, is indicated by finds at points spread over 4 acres in and near a deserted mediaeval village excavated by Birmingham University; some finds are in stratified levels, but as yet none is associated with any structure. The greatest diversity of finds comes from beneath a mediaeval house at 'a'. The site, on Inferior Oolite, is adjacent to springs.
Finds include 1st to 4th-century pottery, 3rd and 4th-century coins, stone and pottery roof tiles, quern fragments, and iron and bronze brooches.
