The king and queen of Scotland. Whereas John XXII. appropriated to the abbey of Holyrood, Edinburgh, the church of Crauford, in the diocese of Glasgow, the abbot and convent have profited nothing by the papal letters, seeing that in them no mention was made of a pension of 18 marks which the abbot and convent have on the said church; they therefore pray for a renewal of the said letters of appropriation, the pension being taxed for a vicar.

David, king of Scots. For nearly four years he, together with some of his barons, knights, and others, has been kept in captivity by the king of England, and despoiled of their goods, and they have not wherewith to pay their ransom, nor have they friends to redeem and restore them, and he is deprived by the fortune of war of the help of the king of France. He prays the pope for assistance and counsel, and for letters to the king of France on his behalf, so that if peace were made between the kings of France and England, he, with his people, would be set free. The bearers of this letter are his fellow captives, Walter de Haliburthon, knight and baron, and Bartholomew de Loen, knight, husband of a kinswoman in the third degree of the king of Scots, who will shortly have to return to captivity. If by the pope and the king of France no help arrives there is nothing left but to implore Divine help. And that the king of England may let the king of Scots and his fellow captives go free, he and his men would do homage to the king of England and his successors, and would assist him and them in their wars against France. The king of Scots would be cited to the parliaments and councils of the king of England. Also those banished and proscribed from Scotland and their heirs, whose goods have been confiscated, would be restored and their goods recovered. Also, if the king of Scotland die without a lawful heir, the king of England or his son would be king of Scots. And the king of England and his people would have all the castles and fortresses of Scotland in their power until these promises are fulfilled.
