471 OFFICE OF THE JUDGE V BOWNE
Office of the Judge v Abraham Bowne of Nottingham, gent
June - October 1634
Abstract
This was a cause of office against Bowne arising out of the challenge to his gentility during his action against Henry Throgmorton [see cause 61]. He was required to exhibit his pedigree and prove his gentility before Garter, Norroy and the heralds on 30 June 1634. Subsequently on 20 October the testimony of the heralds was required by the court; but the end result of the cause is not known.
Summary of proceedings
Dr Duck acted as promoter for the office of the judge. On 30 June 1634 Bowne was ordered to attend 'Sir John Burrows Garter and Sir Wm Neave knight Norroy and the rest of the officers at Armes, to informe them of the truth and his right in the pedigrees by him exhibited into court that from *them* the court might receave certificate accordinglie.' On 20 October 1634 the testimony of the heralds was required to certify Bowne's genealogy
