Abstract

Giles complained that Stratton had called him 'rogue' and 'base knave' in a Westminster street, assaulting and kicking him. Lord Maltravers ordered that Stratton be attached to answer the charges; but no further proceedings survive.

'Cuthbert Stratton, butcher, without any provocacon or offence given, hath most disgracefullie and publiquely, in the open street in Westminster, reviled and rayled on your petitioner and called him rogue, base knave, and said he would prove him one, with other scandalous and reproachfull tearmes; and did also violently assault and kick your petitioner to the great disparagement and abuse of your petitioner, who having no fit meanes to right himself, but by your lordship's noble favour and authority.'

'These are to will and require you to make your immediate repayre to any place where you shall understand of the present being of Cuthbert Stratton and him to attach and take into your custody and bring him forthwith and in your company before me to answer unto such matters as on his Majestie's behalf shalbe objected against him. Whereof fayle you not and this shalbe your warrant. Dated at Arundellhouse the [blank] of [blank] 1638.
