Mitchell against Officers of State in Scotland.

The Answer of the Heirs of Sir John Mitchell of Westhore, Baronet, and others, to the Appeal of the Reverend Mr. William Mitchell, was this Day brought in:

Wood and Co. against Hamilton.

As was also, The Answer of Archibald Hamilton, Merchant in Glasgow, Trustee upon the sequestrated Estate of James and Patrick Hunter and Company, Merchants in Port Glasgow, to the Appeal of John Wood and Company.

Scott against Creditors of Hugh Seton.

After hearing Counsel in Part in the Cause, wherein Walter Scott, Writer to the Signet, is Appellant, and the objecting Creditors of Hugh Seton, and others, are Respondents:

It is Ordered, That the further Hearing of the said Cause be put off to Friday next; and that the Counsel be called in at One o'Clock.

Secretan's Naturalization Bill.

The Lord Scarsdale reported from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing Frederick Samuel Secretan, otherwise called Samuel Frederick Secretan," was committed: "That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Bishop Wearmouth Road Bill.

The Lord Scarsdale made the like Report from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for altering, raising, widening, repairing, and preserving the Road leading from the Town of Bishop Wearmouth, near Sunderland, in the County of Durham, to the Town of Norton, near Stockton, in the said County," was committed.

Sunderland Road Bill.

The Lord Scarsdale also made the like Report from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act to enlarge the Term and Powers of Two Acts made in the Twentieth Year of the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Second, and the Eighth Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, for repairing the Road from Sunderland, near the Sea, to the City of Durham, in the County of Durham," was committed.

Bromley Road Bill.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for enlarging the Term and Powers of an Act of the Seventh Year of His present Majesty, for repairing, widening, and keeping in Repair the Road leading from the High Road between Bromley and Farnborough, in the County of Kent, to Beggar's Bush, in the Turnpike Road leading from Tunbridge Wells to Maresfield, in the County of Sussex."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to the Consideration of the Lords following:

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for enlarging the Term and Powers of an Act of the Ninth Year of His present Majesty, for repairing and widening the Roads from the Turnpike Road at Golford Green, in the Parish of Cranbrooke, to the Turnpike Road in the Parish of Sandhurst; and from the Green near Benenden Church, to the Bull Inn at Rolvenden Cross, in the County of Kent."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to the Consideration of the Lords Committees aforenamed:

Their Lordships, or any Five of them, to meet on the same Day, at the same Place; and to adjourn as they please.

Armstrong against His Majesty's Advocate.

Upon reading the Petition of David Armstrong Esquire, Appellant in a Cause depending in this House, and of His Majesty's Advocate for Scotland, Respondent thereto, which stands appointed for Hearing; setting forth, "That they are desirous the Hearing of this Cause be put off to the next Session of Parliament;" and therefore praying their Lordships, "To put off the Hearing of the said Cause to the next Session of Parliament:"

It is Ordered, That the Hearing of the said Cause, by Consent of the Agents on both Sides, be put off to the next Session of Parliament, as desired.

Malt Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Gilbert and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for continuing and granting to His Majesty certain Duties upon Malt, Mum, Cyder, and Perry, for the Service of the Year One thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Land Tax Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Gilbert and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for granting an Aid to His Majesty by a Land Tax to be raised in Great Britain, for the Service of the Year One thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Two Bills were, severally, read the First Time.

Thrussington Enclosure Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Hungerford and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for dividing, allotting, and enclosing the Open Common Fields and several other Lands and Grounds in the Parish of Thrussington, otherwise Thurstanton, otherwise Trussington, in the County of Leicester;" and to acquaint this House, That they have agreed to their Lordships Amendment made thereto.

Glasgow Road Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Moore and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for making and repairing the Road from the City of Glasgow, in the County of Lanark, to Muirkirk, in the County of Ayr; and from thence to the Confines of the said County of Ayr, towards Sanquhar, in the County of Dumfries, and other Roads communicating therewith;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Demezy's Naturalization Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Medley and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing Anthony Demezy;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Two Bills were, severally, read the First Time.

Barthomley Church, &c. Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Crewe and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act to enable Mary Alsager, Margaret Alsager, and Judith Alsager, to finish and complete a new Church or Chapel in the Parish of Barthomley, in the County of Chester, and to endow the same; and to establish a Charity School within the said Parish, and vesting the Right of Presentation to the said Church or Chapel in them and the future Lords and Ladies of the Manor of Alsager, within the said County;" and to acquaint this House, That they have agreed to their Lordships Amendment made thereto.

Stafford and Chester Roads Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Crewe and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for enlarging the Term and Powers of an Act of the Ninth Year of His present Majesty, for repairing and widening the Road from the End of the County of Stafford, in the Post Road towards the City of Chester, through Woor, in the County of Salop, to Nantwich, in the County of Chester, and from Nantwich to Tarporley, and from thence through Tarvin, in the said County of Chester, to the said City of Chester, together with a certain other Road therein mentioned, so far as relates to the First District of the said Roads;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

County Elections Suspension Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Sumner and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to suspend for a limited Time, the Execution of an Act passed in the last Session of Parliament, intituled, "An Act for the better securing the Rights of Persons qualified to vote at County Elections; and for indemnifying the Persons required to carry the said Act into Execution from the Penalties they may have incurred in not executing all the Provisions of the said Act;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Wiswell Enclosure Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Blackburne and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for dividing and enclosing a certain Common called Wiswell Moor, in the Township of Wiswell and Parish of Whalley, in the County Palatine of Lancaster;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Three Bills were, severally, read the First Time.
