DIE Martis, videlicet, 24 die Maii:
To punish the Abuse of the Sabbath.
HODIE 1a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for punishing of divers Abuses committed on the Sabbath-day, called Sunday.
The Lord Chancellor moved the Lords, To consider what Answer shall be returned to the Lower House, concerning their late Message, whereby they prayed a Conference touching the Point of Impositions.
Debate whether this House shall meet the H.C. in a Conference concerning Impositions.
Of the last-mentioned Motion made by the Lord Chancellor many of the Lords approved, and did thereunto agree; others, not allowing thereof, did urge, and much insisted on, the Resolution of the general Committee Yesterday, in this Place, which was (as by all their Lordships was confessed and yielded), That their Lordships would give Meeting to the Lower House. But, being generally agreed that the House is not bound by any Opinion or Order taken by Committees, but free, and at Liberty, to alter the same, or vary from it, as their Judgement shall lead them; to draw the Matter towards an End, by general Consent, the Question was made, and by the Lord Chancellor proposed, to the Effect following: videlicet, Whether this House shall meet with the Lower House, and give them Hearing touching the Point of Impositions.
Resolved in the Negative.
Whereunto the greater Number of the Lords answering, "Not Content," the Lord Chancellor moved their Lordships, To take Consideration what Answer they would return to the Message formerly received from the Lower House.
But, for that, the Day being spent, the Matter lastly proposed could not now be taken into Deliberation, the further Consideration thereof is referred to another Time.
Adjourn.
Dominus Cancellarius continuavit præsens Parliamentum usque in diem Jovis, videlicet, 26m Maii, hora nona.
