[1271–2] Grant by William Cron (de la Cron), citizen, to Eustace prior and convent of 8s. p.a. of quit rent, for the salvation etc., from certain land in the street opposite Wyvelaston with a house containing an oven (cum forno) and shops adjacent; abutments, the tenement with tentergrounds (cum tentoriis) formerly of Matthew Bokerel on one side and the tenement of Roger de Grasch(ur)ch on the other; grant in free alms; if the canons or their successors are unable to distrain for the rent on account of lack of maintenance or fire (et si contigerit quod absit quia dicti canonici et successores sui per defectum sustentacionis vel combustionis pro dicto redditu in prefato tenemento competenter distringere non possint), then the canons are to distrain on all the grantor's rents in the city of London to their full satisfaction; for the gift the canons gave 60s. and 12s. to expedite the grantor's business (ad negocia mea expedienda); sealed; witnesses, Walter Hervy, then mayor, Richard de Parys, John de Buttele, sheriffs.

[f. 39v] Grant by John de Suffolk (Suffolchia) and Agnes his wife, daughter and heir of Peter son of Roger, to Eustace prior and convent of 1 mark p.a. of quit rent from a wharf (cayo) and houses and shops (sopis) built thereon; abutments, from the king's road to the Thames and from the corner of the lane called Aubrees Wat(er)gate which is on the east side of this tenement to the wharf of Wlmer(us) son of Ed(ward) de Essex on the west; rent to the grantor and their heirs, a clove-gillyflower on Michaelmas day; for this gift the canons gave 8½ marks to expedite the grantor's business; if rent in arrears, the prior and convent may distrain on any of the houses or shops to the full value of the rent; sealed; witnesses, Walter Hervy, mayor, Walter le Pot(er), John Horn, sheriffs, Herman le Estreys, William le Corner; dated Sun. 21 May 1273.

[1170–97] Lease of Stephen prior and convent to Jordan de Turri, clerk, of all the messuage that Edwin the Felter (Feltrarius) held of them and all land which is in front of that house (managium) extending to the main street (magnum vicum) which Edwin held and after him Terricus, his son and all the land once of Robert Burrell near (prope) Wifladeston; rent 8s. p.a.; Jordan swore fealty; gersuma 1 mark; witnesses, Walter the alderman, Godard his brother.

200. [List of those paying rent]: Jordan de Turri who had two sons Robert and John and the land was divided for John de Turri paid 2s. and Robert de Turri 6s. 201. Common plea held in the Husting, Mon. 19 Feb. 1302.
Walter de Glovernia son of Ralph de Algate, clerk, complained that on Mon. 12 Feb. 1302 the prior of Holy Trinity came and took naam from his tenement; abutments, the tenement of the rector of St. Dunstan on the east and the tenement of Matilda le Wolf on the west; to the value of 1s. until a pledge had been given to the sheriff etc. The prior came and said that the seizure was just, as the pl. owed 10s. in arrears. The parties agreed by licence of the court; Walter recognised the rent as owing to the prior and his successors for ever whereupon the prior remitted arrears; Walter in mercy.

[1170–97] Lease of Stephen prior and convent to Alfred the Tiler (Coopertor) of land for houses (terram domorum) which Pain the Fishmonger (Piscator) his brother had held; rent 1s. 8d. p.a.; to hold duly (sine calumpnia et omni malo ingenio); swore fealty; the grantee gave a London sextary of wine; witnesses, Walter the chaplain, Adam the chaplain, Adam the Chamberlain (Camerarius).

[1197–1221] Grant of Peter prior and convent to Edeua daughter of Walter of land that Walter Brown (Brunus), mercer, held of them; in length 25¼ ells and in width 8½ ells; abutments, the land of Robert Hardel and the land of Humphrey Rufus near (iuxta) Ma(nun)lane; leases all that it has in wood and stone; rent 4s. p.a.; Edeua undertook for herself and her heirs to keep houses on the land and the houses roofed at a cost of 40s. if she or they wished to lease the fee 40s. p.a.; rent to be paid unless the land had been wasted by fire in which event the payment would not be levied; if the grantee wishes to pledge or sell, the prior and convent to have the preference by a gold bezant; swore fealty; [f. 40v] gersuma 2 marks of silver; witnesses, Gilbert the alderman, Ralph Stepranc, Ralph Chaloner, Reimundus.

205. Common plea held in the Husting, Mon. 23 Oct. 1329.
John Cokermouth summoned to reply to the prior of Holy Trinity concerning his free tenement held of the prior at a rent of 5s. 8d.; John said he was not the tenant and had not been on the day of the suing out of the writ and places himself on the country and the prior likewise, and a jury is summoned for the next court; John essoined Mon. 4 Dec. 1329; his messuage seized; Mon. 12 Mar. 1330 John summoned to answer concerning a plea that he should do right service to the prior from his free tenement of which Richard Wymbysh, the prior's predecessor, was seised etc. and because 24s. were in arrears on the day of the suing out of the writ on 23 Feb. 1329 and the messuage could not be distrained upon for a year and a day the prior sought the messuage as gavelet and John came and acknowledged that he held of the prior and the prior received the messuage.

[f. 41] [1197–1212] Grant of Peter prior and convent to Elias son of Godard of land which Spirling the Moneyer (monetarius) held; abutments, the land of Ralph Flael and other land of Elias which he holds of the king; rent 1s. 6d. p.a.; and from the land which he holds of the Crown he gave a quit rent of 2s. p.a. to the canons; if the rent is unpaid, the canons to have the right to take naam in all his lands which he holds of the king as far as Mangunelane if they do not find sufficient naam in the land which Spirling gave them; Elias for himself and his heirs placed the canons in security (in contraplegium) in all the land he held of the Crown in perpetuity; swore fealty and to pay rent without miskenning; sealed chirograph; witnesses, Henry mayor of London, Roger son of Alan.

208. Release of the prior and chapter of the New Hospital of St. Mary in the above-mentioned tenement [206] saving certain rents to themselves and to the prior and convent of Holy Trinity; indenture, John de Habiton(ne), prior of the New Hospital of St. Mary without Bishopisgate in the suburb of London, greeting etc. when William de Horton, prior, and chapter, leased a certain messuage in Maionelane to Reginald de Conductu, citizen and alderman, for a term of 100 years at a rent of 14s. 6d. p.a. for the true value (pro vero valore dicti tenementi) and a quit rent of 1s. 6d. p.a. to Holy Trinity; abutments, another tenement of Reginald on the north and the tenement once of William Flori on the south; in length from Ma(n)ionelane on the east to the tenement of Reginald on the west; and the holding was in such bad repair (debile et ruinosum) that it could not be maintained unless it was completely (de novo) rebuilt and Reginald wished to lease the property and rebuild in default of repairing the houses (pro defaltu reparacionis domuum) for the rebuilding the prior and chapter quitclaim their right and that of their successors in the property, reserving to themselves a rent of 12s. 6d. and to Holy Trinity 1s. 6d. p.a.; the prior of the hospital to have powers to distrain for arrears; dated 6 Mar. 1335.

211. Common plea held in the Husting, Mon. 26 Jan. 1360.
Thomas Peerle complained that on Wed. 6 Nov. 1359 the prior of Holy Trinity came to the pl.'s free tenement and took naam etc. to the value of 13s. 4d. etc. until a pledge was given to Simon de Bedyngton one of the sheriffs etc. The prior came by his attorney Alan de Horwode and said that the taking of naam was just etc. because the prior should receive a rent charge of 8s. p.a. which he had had from Reginald de Conductu and that 40s. was due for five years' arrears etc. and Thomas Peerle said that the rent was 4s. and that he was prepared to satisfy the prior and they were given until the next court and the matter was then delayed, because the parties were conferring, until the court held on Mon. 18 May 1360; the prior recognised that the rent was 4s. p.a. and the pl. paid the arrears, and 4s. in future.

Note: that the tenement of John Cory, clerk, in the parish of St. Dunstan is situated in Mynchinlane between the tenement of John Covert, kt., and Margery de Chissebech his wife which was once of Thomas de Kent (Cancia) on the south and the tenement of Reginald de Conductu on the north and it extends from Mynchinlane on the east to the tenement of Isabel at Vyne on the west as appears in a charter (fn. 6) of John Cory, enrolled after 1 Nov. 1346.

[1269–70] Grant by Thomas de Oxford (Oxon), bureller (burelarius), and Alice his wife to Master John Rosamund of 20s. p.a. of quit rent from rents which they had in the parish of St. Dunstan by the Tower opposite the church in a lane which goes by the Tower; rent to the grantors and their heirs ½ lb. of cumin or three grains of pepper; the grantor and his heirs free to distrain (namiare seu distringere) and may distrain on the grantees' land in the parish of St. Mary Bothaw which is between the land of John le Minor on the west and land formerly of Robert de Wrotham on the east and extends from the king's road in Candelwykstrate to the land of Michael To(v)i; John gave 15 marks of silver; sealed; witnesses, Hugh son of Hocton (fitz Hoctonis) then constable of the Tower, Robert de Cornhill, Thomas de Basing, sheriffs; Master John Rosamund gave this quit rent of 20s. to the church of Holy Trinity as appears by Charter Seven (fn. 7) of several parishes.

[f. 45] [1197–1212] Grant of Peter prior and convent to Roger de Blakesappilton of all the land with a stone house and wharf (hwervum) formerly of Master James in the parish of St. Dunstan in the soke of the archbishop of Canterbury; rent 13s. 4d. p.a.; swore fealty; to pay rent without fail; if the grantee wishes to pledge or sell, reversion to the prior and convent if they wish; length from the upper end (superiori parte) 39 ells to the public street (ad stratam pubplicam) by (versus) the Thames and in width 11½ ells and from the outer part by the public street 13 ells; the wharf is 13 ells in width; gersuma 8 marks and 3s. for pittances (ad pitanciam); witnesses, Ralph the priest of St. Mary at Hill, John de Ball, priest of St. Dionis, Henry, mayor of London, Peter his son.

Recognisance of Walter Auberkyn for himself, his heirs and assigns that he owes a rent of 13s. 4d. p.a. to the prior and convent of Holy Trinity from his house which was once leased by Roger de Blakesappilton from them; abutments, the lane which leads to the house (managium) of Matilda de Sandwich on the west and the tenement of Hamon de Pariis on the east and the public street on the south and the house once of Brandus on the north; for this recognisance the prior and convent remitted to Walter and his heirs etc. arrears of rent; witnesses, [not named].
