Wyndesor. John de Wyndesor had no son or daughter of full age after the confirmation made by King Henry the king's father to
Hugh de Northovere of the manor of Wyndesor, which the said John had demised to him and to his heirs until the full age of the heirs of the said John; but he had a son named John, his eldest, who died aged 12, and another named Hugh who died aged 18. The said John sometime had granted to the said Hugh de Northovere the said manor with the marriage and wardship of his said son John and other his heirs, by letters patent confirmed by the said king; but with the consent of the said Hugh he enfeoffed the said John his son of the said manor by charter (transcript given), to him and to his heirs, saving to the said Hugh the said wardship. Afterwards the said Hugh sold his estate in the said wardship to Sir Ralph de Albiniaco, and the said John died seised in his demesne as of fee, and the said Hugh son of John was his heir; and after the death of the said John the feoffee, the said Ralph sold the estate which he had in the wardship to the abbot of Ford, and he to Martin de Roches, and he to the said John de Wyndesor the father of John the feoffee, who demised the same with the wardship and marriage of the said Hugh his son, brother and heir of John son of John, to Master Robert de Strode; and the said John the father delivered to the said Hugh his son the said manor as his hereditary right through the death of his brother; and afterwards the said Hugh son of John espoused Juliana, niece of the said Master Robert, who now survives, and begot of her a daughter and heir Alice, who was 2 years of age in the beginning of Lent last. The said Master Robert claims nothing in the manor except wardship. |

Writ of plenius certiorari, on the petition of Eva late the wife of Nicholas Tregoz, who now holds the manor of Topingeho, member of the manor of Blunteshale, which Geoffrey Tregos held of King Henry by knight's service, showing that the said Geoffrey after the death of Robert Filleol, who held the manor of Topingho of him by knight's service, seized the same into his hand as wardship, and because he did waste in the woods of the manor, which is within the bounds of the forest of Essex, the king took the same into his hand and committed it to Queen Eleanor, who afterwards gave that wardship and marriage to Richard de Ewell, deceased, who made divers alienations to the disherison of the said Eva and of the heirs. 30 Aug. 11 Edw. 1. |

Thoppinghoe. John de Ferrun held nothing of the king in chief in demesne as of fee on the day he died, but one Baldwin Filiol who held the manor of Thoppinghoe of one Nicholas Tregos, lord of Bluntishal, by service of ¼ knight's fee, demised the manor to the said John le Ferrun and Margery his wife for 25 years, within which term the same John and Margery purchased 60a. land in the said manor of the demesnes of the said Baldwin, to them and their heirs; afterwards the said John died, and the said Margery remaining in seisin of the said 60a. as of fee, and of the residue of the manor for the term of years, married one Richard Atthenok, and they held the same for a long time; and afterwards the said Richard so wrought with the said Margery that they jointly rendered to the said Baldwin the said 60a., of which the same Baldwin had previously enfeoffed the said John le Ferrun and Margery, on condition that he should enfeoff the said Richard of other 60a. land of the demesnes of the same manor. And thus the said Baldwin enfeoffed the same Richard and his heirs only, and the other 60a. previously obtained by the said John le Ferrun and Margery he assigned to the said Richard and Margery until the end of the term of years aforesaid. And afterwards the said Baldwin fell ill and the said Richard procured that the same Baldwin, being helpless in his bed and non compos mentis, changed the said term of years to a term of the life of either of the said Richard and Margery, and delivered them seisin by a glove, such as he then could do, for he died three days after; and the said Richard and Margery held the manor thus until the death of the said Richard during the said term of years. Thus Richard Atthenoke was seised in his demesne as of fee of 60a. land only in Thoppinghoe, and held them of the heirs of the said Baldwin by service of a pair of white gloves price 1½d., and by doing to the chief lords of the fee 4s. yearly.
Hugh, son of the said Richard, is his next heir, and of full age.
The residue of the manor is held of Eva late the wife of John Tregos, who holds the manor of Bluntishal by service of ¼ knight's fee, and who ought to have the wardship of the manor of Thoppinghoe by reason of the minority of Thomas son and heir of the said Baldwin, who is aged 14 years. |
