Writ of certiorari super valore to S. bishop of Waterford, justiciary of Ireland, concerning the counties and serjeanties of which the said John was seised in Decies and Desmond, 12 April, 10 Edw. I.
Writ to the said bishop, concerning lands &c. held by the said John in Decies and Desmond, because Thomas son of Maurice, grandson and heir of the said John, seeks to be restored to his lands, being of full age, 13 April, 10 Edw. I.
Kildare. Inq. Monday after St. James the Apostle, 10 Edw. I.
Offaly. A theodum of land as well in demesne as in lordship (domineo) called Oregan, held of Maurice son of Gerald for ½ knight's fee whenever royal service shall be summoned, and doing suit at his court at Gesyl, now worth 45l. yearly and no more because wasted by the war of the Irish (gwerram Hibernicorum), but in time of peace worth 90l. 13s. 4d. yearly; and Nicholas son of Alexander holds there 5 carucates land in fee by doing to the said Maurice the abovesaid royal service for the said John's heir.
Kilkenny. Inq. Sunday after St. Peter ad Vincula, 10 Edw. I.
Sseyr. 5 carucates land held of the heirs of John the marshal (marscalli) for a red goshawk, and 40s. to the bishop of Ossory yearly; and that land used to be worth 50 marks, but now only 20 marks yearly, because the greater part lies waste by the war.
Waterford. Inq. Sunday the morrow of St. Peter ad Vincula, 10 Edw. I.
Decies. 3½ cantreds, except the barony of Donnul and other lands enfeoffed by the king before the enfeoffment of the said John, and except the lands of the Hospitallers, Templars and croziers (crocearum), the advowson of the church of Dungarvan with its chapels, and the castle of Dungarvan.
Waterford. The shrievalty, held of fee and not of serjeanty, rendering thence and for the shrievalties of Corc' and Keregie, and the serjeanties there, 500 marks of silver at the Exchequer of Dublin yearly, and for 1/10 knight's fee; and the aforesaid lands, shrievalties and bailiwicks were held of the enfeoffment of Sir Edward then lord of Ireland during the life of the king his father by his charter, which Thomas son of Maurice, the said John's heir, has. In the said three cantreds are eighteen farmers holding 123½ carucates of arable, meadow, pasture, wood, moor and marsh for six years still to come, rendering 253l. 16s. 8d. yearly, viz.:—18a. meadow near Waterford, turbary near Dungar-van, and 49 townships held by free tenants rendering 119l. 17s. 8d. yearly; and in Ofathe six free tenants holding six townships for 23s. 4d. yearly, also the tenants of the town of the 'Oustmen' near Waterford render yearly for the advowson by the hands of the baron of Dunil 7s.; the burgesses of Dungarvan town render for their burgages 13l. 17s. 4d.; 4 mills are worth 28l. 13s. 4d. yearly and there are the prisage of fish, ale, wines &c. of Dungarvan or Waterford (extent given), the pannage and vert of the forest of Decies, and the perquisites &c. of the hundred and court of the town of Dungarvan and of the whole county of Waterford.
Kilmidan. The manor, worth 100l. yearly, of which the said Sir Edward enfeoffed Sir Robert de Ufford and Geoffrey de Nevile after the said John's death.
Decies. Sixteen free tenants doing 9½ and 1/60 knights' service whenever royal service shall be summoned, or 18l. 10s. 8½d.
And the said John had seisin of all the above by a letter patent of the said Sir Edward, which the said Thomas has, directed to the free tenants of Decies and Desmond, that they should answer to the said John as they were accustomed to do to Thomas son of Anthony who held the said lands and bailiwicks before. By which letter the said John took seisin himself, for Stephen de Lungespeie then justiciary of Ireland was unwilling to give it to him immediately, but assigned him to come before the council of Sir Edward at Dublin; but being unwilling to wait, by counsel of his friends he took seisin himself, and had it from the 1st week of Lent, 44 Hen. III., until the eve of St. James the Apostle, 45 Hen. III., when he died.

Cork, Kerry and Limerick. Inq. Saturday after St. Peter ad Vincula, 10 Edw. I. (defaced.)
Cork. Cork (Corcag'.) 6 acres meadow and 2 weirs near the town of Cork, with the shrievalties and serjeanties of the counties of Corc' and Kerie (extent given), rendering for the same and for the land he held in co. Waterford and for the shrievalty there 500 marks of silver at the exchequer of Dublin, and 1/10 knight's fee; all held of the enfeoffment of Sir Edward as abovesaid; together with the pleas and perquisites of the whole counties of Corc' and Kerigie, and of the serjeanties there.
Limerick. Thomon. 1½ cantred of land called Truchkedocassyn and Oxalyd, held of the king in chief for 200 marks yearly at the exchequer of Dublin, knight's service and suit at the county (court); and they are worth nothing because laid waste by the war of the Irish of Thomon.
Corkemrech (?) in the same county. 13 townships of land to (?) the extent of 1 thcodum in Mamerich (?) recovered in the king's court against Conochur Obren. Nothing is owing thence, and it is worth 70 marks yearly in time of peace, but now nothing because it lies waste.
Oranyl (?) 1 cantred called Shennede held of the king in chief for 2 knights' services, worth now 100 marks yearly, and in the said John's time 100l.
Kyllyde in the same county. 1 cantred with a castle, held of John de Barry for 2 knights' services, worth now 100l. yearly, but in the said John's time 200l.
Clonogre in the same county. ½ theodum, held of Maurice son of Gerold for ½ knight and suit at his court of Alletath, worth 100 marks yearly.
Belese in the same county. 1½ carucate land, held of the citizens of Lymer[ick] for 20s., and 15s. to the bishop.
Kerry. Acinekery (?) in co. Kerie. 1 cantred held of Sir Miles de Curcy for 2 knights' services, worth in the said John's time 100l., but now 50l., besides the third (terceriam) of Lady Maud de Barry late the wife of Maurice son of John, for the greater part is destroyed by the war of the Irish.
Donloych in the same county. ½ cantred of land, held of Geoffrey Tyrel for 20 marks rent, formerly worth 40l. and now but 20 marks because ... the war of the Irish.
Moyhynwyr in the same county. 1 theodum of land held of William de Goher for 6d. yearly, suit at the court of Maurice son of Thomas at Alcry (?) and ½ knight's service, worth still 20 marks yearly.
Cork. Ogenathydonethud (?). 3 carucates land held of the heirs of John de Monte free of service, worth in time of peace 40s., but now nothing, because it lies wholly in the power of the Irish.
Corkeleye in the same county. ½ cantred of land held of Robert son of Stephen for 1 knight's service, worth in the said John's time 40 marks, and now but 10, because almost wholly destroyed by the war of the Irish.
Clonlachtyn and Dromynargyl (?) 3 knights' fees of land, held of William de Rupell' for 6 marks yearly rent, worth in the said John's time 10 marks and now nothing, because it lies wholly waste by the war of the Irish.
Kerylochnarn (?) in the earldom of Connact' (?). 1 theodum of land, held of Sir Maurice de London, rendering 5 marks yearly to the chief lord, worth in time of peace 120 marks, and now but 60, because a great part was destroyed by the war of the Irish; and after the death of the said John, the said Thomas son of Maurice when he came to full age, gave the said theodum to Henry de Rupe in exchange for the manor of Moyale in co. Cork, which is worth 70 marks with the dower of Lady Ellen late the wife of Henry de Rupe the elder, and for 50 marks yearly to be received through the hands of the said Henry de Rupe the younger in the church of St. Mary Lymer[ick]; and the said Thomas renders yearly from the manor of Moyle to the said Sir Henry the younger and his heirs 40d.

Middelton Lillebon in the hundred of Kynewardeston. The manor (extent given with names of tenants) including a meadow called Childeslade, was held for 1 knight's fee of the said John, who holds it (sic) of the king in chief, and the said John gave the wardship and marriage of the heir of Walter Lillebon to John le Butelir for his service, who sold the same to Roland de Erleye until the (full) age of the heir, who now holds the said manor. Two ladies have two dowers from the said manor.
Wilts. Inq. Friday before All Saints, 10 Edw. I.
Edestok. The manor with the advowson of the church, held by William Gereberd of the said John by service of 1 knight, and by the said John of the king in chief.
He held no other fees in the county except in the hundred of Kynewardston, as appears above.

Lydel. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants) including the site of a castle in which are a wooden hall, chapel, kitchen, grange, &c., a forest called Nichole forest containing 7 leagues in length and from 1 to 3 leagues in breadth, 2 water-mills and a fulling-mill, a fishery, a certain land called Kaerwyndlo, and the advowson of the church of Eston.
Stubhull, which is a member of Lydel (extent given).
Arthuret (extent given), including a meadow called Halle Enge.
Carlisle. 6 tenants holding burgages.
Licences of men of Roteland and Solom which are in Scotland for pasturing in the fields of Arturet.

Brakenhull. Three tenants holding 3 bovates land and rendering 17s., and 11 bovates land in Lydel, 11 in Carwendelowe, 24 in Stubhill, 8 in Speresele, 48 in Arthuret, 40 in Levington, 16 in Eston, 8 in North Eston, 4 in Brakenhulle, and 4 in Little Brakenhull are held of the lord by cornage, the tenants rendering 56s. yearly, and the lord shall answer for it to the sheriff of Cumberland for the king's use, and they shall do suit at the lord's court of Stubhil, and at the lord's mills, and owe wardship, relief, and aid in making his eldest son a knight and marrying his daughter.

The said Sir Baldwin and Hawis his wife were jointly enfeoffed of 12 bovates and 12a. land and a fourth part of a watermill, by one Roger de Mosegrave to them and their heirs for ever.
Aton. 1 carucate land is held by Nicholas de Meynel, a toft and 4 bovates land by John Marchaund, 4 bovates land by Robert de Merton, and a toft by Robert le Taylour, all owing suit and foreign (service); and 1 carucate land held by the prior of Geseburn, and ½ carucate by the master of St. Leonard's, York, in frankalmoin.
Thormodeby. 6 bovates land are held by Robert de Thormodeby, owing suit and foreign (service).
Hemelington. The manor and 12s. 2d. yearly rent in Aton are held by the lady of Hemelington in dower, which were of Robert de Stotevill sometime her husband.
Aton. The church is held by the abbot of Wetheby to his own uses.
York. Extent, Tuesday the eve of the Annunciation, 10 Edw. I.
Kerkeby Moresheved. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including the park a league in circuit with 140 deer (ferarum), a wood called Westwode a league in length, a messuage and great close in Braunsedale held by Nicholas son of Robert Nussaunt rendering an arrow at Easter, rents of nuts and woodhens, 'gersume,' marchet and the tenth pig, a messuage called La Wodehouse, waste places called Coteflat, Loftischo, Godefreeruding, Harlonde, and beneath Gillemore Clif, dales called Farndale and Brauncedale, and waste places called Arkeners and Sweneklis, held of Roger de Munbray.
