Bochardeby. The said Robert was in peaceful seisin of 20a. land there by the enfeoffment of the said Alice, who held them in dower through the death of the said Ralph. And because he saw that such a feoffment was to the prejudice of the king and of the heirs, the escheator after the death of the said Alice, took the land into the king's hand. The said Alice paid 12½d. for cornage to the heirs for her third part, and the heirs paid 3s. 1½d. for the whole tenement to the king at the castle of Carlisle : the said Robert paid nothing to the king whilst he held the land.

Peter Corbet and Henry de la Pomeray are not in the king's homage.
Hurberton. 40s. land of which Alexander de Okeston and Joan his wife were jointly enfeoffed by Roger de Valletorta; and 16s. land held by Hawis late the wife of Reginald de Valletorta the younger in dower.
Waysseburn. 4 marks land held by the heirs of William son of Durand of the gift of Reginald de Valletorta.
Brixham. A third part of the manor, of which the said Alexander and Joan were jointly enfeoffed by the said Roger.
Brideford. 10l. land with the advowson of the church, similarly held jointly.
Hurberton. 21s. rent of assize were held by the said Roger, which the king now has through his death. 33½ knights' fees pertain to the said barony of which the king now has seisin through the death of the said Roger and Alexander; whereof the aforesaid Joan was dowered of 11 fees through the death of Ralph de Valletorta her former husband, and the aforesaid Hawis of 6½ fees through the death of the aforesaid Reginald.
Hurberton. 3 ferlings land with the whole meadow land, worth 50s., held by Richard de Binelegh, sometime clerk of the said Roger, by his feoffment; 100s. land held by Isabel, late the wife of Warin de Boddeton, of the master of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, which land Roger de Vautort granted her.
Holne Abbatis. 40s. land held by the abbot of Buffestre of the gift of Ralph de Valletorta in frankalmoin.
Brixham. Two parts of the manor, worth 20l., held by Agnes Beauceyn for a term of years, which the said Ralph delivered to Stephen Beauceyn her husband and herself to farm.
Ho in the manor of Brixham. 6l. land held by Roger de Pridias, which the said Ralph gave to Geoffrey de Pridias his father.
Cliston. The manor, held by Guy de Nonant of the gift of the aforesaid Reginald.
Clauton. 10l. land similarly held by the same Guy ; 10l. land held by Walter de Bathon of the feoffment of the said Ralph ; 2 marks rent held by the prior of Frithelestok, with the homage and service of the said Guy of the whole manor, which rent he had of the gift of Richard de Brendesworth, and he of Alexander de Okeston, and he of the said Roger.
Cherleton. 20l. land held by Master Richard de Clifford of the gift of Thomas Pipard, which Reginald de Valletorta gave to Thomas Corbet and Isabel his sister in free marriage, and the said Thomas gave to William Pipard, father of the said Thomas Pipard, with Katherine his daughter in free marriage.
Brideford. 40s. land held by the abovesaid Hawis in dower.
The aforesaid fees with two dowers are worth 20s. yearly, saving wardships and relief when they happen.

Margery late his wife is fully dowered from the separate portions of the said heirs according to the tenor of the writ, who granted her their portions of the capital messuage for her life, saving to themselves the houses necessary for keeping their corn and beasts, and for receiving guests (hospitanda).
Partition briefly endorsed on the writ. The said Avelina is the eldest and a widow, Sarah married to John de Burneby, Joan married to William de Parles, and Ellen the youngest and a maiden (domicella). |
