Somerset Inq. Monday after St. Hilary, 1 Edw. I.
A certain bedelry, on the western side of the Perret, worth 40s. yearly, held in fee of the king's gift, rendering nothing.
Bromfeld. The manor, worth 15l. 12s. 3d. yearly, held of the heir of William de Monte Acuto by service of 1 knight's fee.
Sok. The manor, worth 40l. yearly, held of John de Bello Campo, of the king's gift as the wardship of Brice, son and heir of William le Deneys, by service of 2 knights' fees.
Walter de la Lynde, aged 27, is his next heir.
[Dorset.] Inq. Saturday the morrow of St. Hilary, 1 Edw. I.
Swere. The manor, worth 100s. yearly, held of Lady Helewysa de Nova Villa, who held of the heirs of William de Monte Acuto, and they of Henry de Novo Burgo, and he of the heir of William Belet, and he of the king in chief for ½ fee.
Porstok. The bailiwick of the forest, worth 1 mark yearly, held of the king's gift.
Blakemore. The bailiwick of the forest, worth 100s. yearly, held of the king's gift.
Hertleghe. A third part of the manor held, by his own purchase, of Sir Edmund earl of Cornwall of the honour of Fordinton manor in serjeanty, rendering 20s. for the whole manor. Lady Clar[ice], late the wife of the said Sir John, holds of her own inheritance another part, and William de Carevile a third part through his wife, who is one of the heirs.
Gillingeham. The bailiwick, worth 41s. rent yearly, held of the king's gift; and 10 marks and 24d. in other issues.
The service is unknown, unless to keep the forests faithfully.
Sir Walter de la Lynde, aged 25 and more, is his next heir.
[Sussex.] Extent, Monday after St. Hilary 1 Edw. I.
Bolebrok. The manor (extent given), held in chief of William de Worth by service of 10s.; and the foreign land held of William Wastel, the heirs of Henry de Hertefeld, Maud de Balvetye, and Felicia de Norhamton, by service of 11s. 4½d.

Surrey. Extent (undated and defective).
Waleton. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by charter of King Henry, by service of ¼ knight's fee.
Podindene alias Pudindenne. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief, from which 10s. are due at the king's exchequer; 6l. 9d. foreign rent held of many fees; 54a. arable, and 21a. meadow, held of Ralph de Heghstede; 10a. arable held of the heirs of Chiveninge; 6a. arable held of Margery la Toche; 2a. meadow held of John de la Forde; and 4a. meadow held of John de Brok. And he did annual (service?) ... viz. at the manor of Axstede ... Crauham ... de Hegh ...

Leyseby near Grimesby. The manor, worth 32l. 12sd. yearly, and two bovates land in Leyseby town, worth 1 mark, held of Sir Hugh de Nevill for homage and service and 1d. rent.
Leyseby. 1 toft and 7 bovates land, held of Robert de Burewll of the fee of Sir Geoffrey de Bradele for homage and service and 1d.
Scalleby. A messuage and 15 bovates land, and 8l. 10d. and 1lb. cummin rent, held of Sir Robert Walraum for homage and service and 1 sore sparrowhawk or 2s.
Sir Walter de la Linde, aged 24 and more, is his next heir.
Letter from the subescheator in Lindesey in co. Lincoln to the king's escheator, stating that at Leyseby he found persons on behalf of Sir Hugh de Neville who would not permit him to enter, saying that the said John held the manor of Sir Hugh before he held anything of the king, but nevertheless he made the inquisition enclosed. He also seized the fee of Sir Henry de Percy into the king's hand, but the bailiff of Sir J. earl of Warrenne ejected the king on behalf of the wife of the said Sir Henry, daughter of the said earl. Upon which he prays the escheator's aid and counsel.
Writ, to the escheator to take into the king's hand the manor and serjeanty of Hertleye and Craweford, which Edmund earl of Cornwall and Clarice late the wife of the said John, have occupied. 9 Feb. 2 Edward I.
Dorset. Inq. Thursday before St. Gregory, 2 Edw. I.
Hertlegh and Craweford. The manor and serjeanty were held by the said John in fee of Sir Edmund earl of Cornwall in chief and not of the king, excepting 1/6 of the manor which was and is of Clarice late the wife of the said John, who was one of the heirs of the said manor.
Writ, to the escheator to deliver seisin to Walter son and heir of the said John of the manors of Hertelegh and Craueford with the serjeanty, the seisin of which Edmund earl of Cornwall deforced, and which are now in the king's hands. 39 (sic) March, 2 Edw. I.

Writ, on the complaint of Walter de la Linde that the subescheator had ejected him from the wardship of a tenement in Berewik, co. Dorset, which was held of him in chief by the said John, 24 April, 1 Edw. I.

Berewike was held by the said John of William Belet and his heirs in chief, of the fee of the manor of Swere, of which Walter de La Lynde is chief lord: he held nowhere of the king in chief.

Hingham and Wrthested. One knight's fee held by Sir Oliver de Hingham of the said manor.

Bukenham. The manor with the castle (extent given), including pasture in Suanegeye, the hundred of Schropham, and a rent at New Bukenham called 'londgovel,' held of the king in chief by serjeanty of butlery. William de Monte Canino (sic) holds 11½ knights' fees of this manor, John de Gatesthorpp 1 fee, Hervey de Stanho ¼, and Adam de Burtupf ¼.
The body of Sir Robert, deceased, lies unburied in the castle of Tateshal.
He held of the king in chief ¼ of the inheritance of the earl of Harundell.

Shelle. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief, pertaining to the barony of Tibeham, and the manor renders 52s. yearly to the prior of Buttele in frankalmoin of the gift of king Henry the old; and 40a. arable held of the abbot of St. John's, Colecestre, rendering 10s. yearly.

Candlesby alias Candleshou. The manor (extent given) ... the vacation of the churches of Candlesby and Gunneby, held of the king in chief by knight's service; it is within the Barony of Tater(sale), and he had the wardship of the son and heir of Robert de Orreby; and a tenement held of William de Wegland, rendering 2s. 8d. yearly.
He died on Saturday before St. James, [1] Edw. I.

Tateshal. The castle and 2 parts of the manor held of the king in chief by hauberk fee (Lorice), and by barony; and ⅓ of the manor, with lands &c. in Kirkeby held of the fee of Durham for 20l. 13s. 1d. rent to Sir John Bek; (extent given).

Boston. 30a. arable held of Sir Thomas de Multon by service of ¼ knight's fee; 3½a. held of Sir Simon son of Simon by service of 12d.; and 8l. 3s. 6d. rents of free tenants, 4s. 7¼d. rents of villeins, 40s. perquisites, and a windmill, tenure unspecified.

[Suffolk.] Inq. Thursday after St. Denis, 1 Edw. I.
Batesford. On Wednesday before St. Margaret, 1 Edw. I. Peter de Candelesby, clerk of Sir R. de Tateshal the younger, came and took seisin of the manor to the use of his lord, who held the manor from that date until Thursday after St. Denis in the same year, after the death of Sir Robert his father on Sunday before St. Margaret, and received the profits for that time.
[Suffolk.] Inq. made at Shelley, Tuesday after St. Denis, 1 Edw. I.
[Shelley?] The manor (extent given) including meadows called Heldemede, Quethemede, and Mulnemede. After the death of Baldwin de Welles, who held the manor of Batesford for life, his servant held it until Wednesday after St. Margaret 1 Edw. I. when Peter de Candelesby took seisin thereof to the use of his master (see above): he also took seisin of the manor of Shelley on Tuesday after St. Margaret to the use of the said Sir Robert the younger &c.
Sussex. Inq. Wednesday after the nativity of St. Mary the Virgin, 2 Edw. I.
Walderton. 4 virgates and 5½ acres land, held of the honour of Arundel in chief.

Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Walter de Langeford that the escheator had taken into the King's hand his manor of West Tiderle, which he had granted to the said Robert for life (only), 10 Feb. 1 Edw. I.
Southampton. Inq. the day of St. Matthias, 1. Edw. I.
Westiderle. The manor was only held by the said Robert for life, and ought to revert to Walter de Langford, his heirs or assigns, by a covenant between them that the said Walter should have Little Winterburne in co. Wilts in exchange, for the said Robert's life, and after his death should release it:
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Maud late the wife of the said Robert, that the escheator had taken into the King's hand the manors of Lugwardin, Reynham, Winfrod, Speresholt, and Hurste, of which she was enfeoffed jointly with the said Robert, 11 Feb. 1 Edw. I.
Wilts. Extent (undated).
Stupellaunton. Lands, rents, &c. (extent given), held of the gift of Lady Maud de Albo Monasterio sometime the wife of Sir John son of Alan, who had the land in free marriage from Lady Clemence de Verdun her mother, and held it of the church of Salisbury by finding one wax taper there. Maud the wife of the said Robert is joined in the charter of enfeoffment for her life, as the jury understand.

Hurste. Extent made on Saturday the morrow of St. Matthias the Apostle, of lands, rents &c. held jointly with Maud his wife, of the gift of Roger de Mimburi, of the bishop of Salisbury in chief by service of 1d. rent.

Winfrod. Maud late the wife of the said Robert was enfeoffed jointly with him of the manor.

Hereford. Inq. Tuesday in Easter week, 1 Edw. I.
Lugwardin. The said Maud was enfeoffed jointly with her husband of the manor with the advowson of the church, and after his decease obtained seisin.
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Ralph Russel, that the escheator had taken into the King's hand the manor of Derham, which he had granted to the said Robert and to his heirs by Maud his wife, 11 Feb. 1 Edw. I.
Gloucester. Inq. Friday in Easter week, 1 Edw. I.
Derham. The manor was given by the said Ralph to the said Robert with Maud his daughter in marriage, to him and the heirs of their bodies, with reversion to the said Ralph and his heirs; the said Robert died without heir of himself and the said Maud, and the manor ought to revert to the said Ralph and his heirs.
Writ of certiorari, on the complaint of Robert de Bosco, that the escheator had taken into the King's hand the manor of Childesfrome, which he had demised to the said Robert for life, 21 April, 1 Edw. I.
Dorset. Inq. Monday the morrow of SS. Processus and Martinianus.
Childefrome. The manor was demised by Robert de Bosco to Robert Waleraund for life, with reversion to the said Robert de Bosco and his heirs. No throwing down of trees or other damage was done in the wood of the manor by the subescheator, but all the felling in the said wood was done by the said Robert, and the wood felled was sold by the escheator to the value of 23d.
Writ of plenius certiorari to Matthew de Columbariis, on the complaint of Alan de Plogenet, that the escheator had taken into the King's hand the manors of Langeford, Wadden, Harham, and Wateleye, which ought to revert to him, 29 April, 1 Edw. I.
Writ to the sheriff of Wilts on the same subject, 29 April, 1 Edw. I.
Wilts. Inq. Sunday before the Ascension, ... Edw. I. (defective).
Langeford, Waddene and Harham. The said Robert gave to the said Al(an his nephew) his said manors, to him and the heirs of his body, of which manors the said Alan had (seisin) for a year and more. And the said Robert acknowledged the said Alan's right before the king's justices, for which acknowledgment (the said Alan) granted the said manors to the said Robert, to him and the heirs of his body, with reversion to the said Alan. Which Robert (died) without heir of his body.
Writ to the sheriff of Somerset on the same subject, 29 April, 1 Edw. 1.
Somerset. Inq. Thursday the feast of SS. Medard and Geldard.
Wateleg' alias Watheleg'. The said Robert gave the manor to the said Alan in the same manner as above.
Writ of plenius certiorari to Bartholomew de Sutleg', on the complaint of Alan de Plogenet, that the escheator had taken into the King's hand the castle and manor of Kilpek, which ought to revert to him on the death of the said Robert without heir of his body, 29 April, 1 Edw. I.
Hereford. Inq. Monday before the Ascension, 1 Edw. I. (defective).
[Kilpek.] Robert Waleraund long before his death enfeoffed the said Alan [of the said castle and manor], who was in seisin of the manor from 4 August ... Hen ... to the feast of St. Clement following, and made a new constable of Kilpec and forester in the Hay ... &c. and then delivered the said ... bailiwick of the Hay of Hereford to the said Robert for life, and he held the same until his death.
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of the prior of Stokescurcy, that the escheator had detained the tenth penny of the rents of the manor of Stokescurcy, which the priors of that place were accustomed to receive from its foundation, 24 July, 1 Edw. I.
Somerset. Inq. Sunday after the Assumption, 1 Edw. I.
Wyk, Radewye and the borough of Stokcursy. From the foundation of the said priory, the priors &c. have received the tenth penny of all the rents as well of the villeins as of the freemen, except 9s. which by the foresight and prudence of Sir Robert Walerant have newly accrued to the manor of Stokcursy.

Thurington. The manor (extent given), held of Sir Robert de Tateshale the elder in chief by service of 1 knight's fee.
Greinsvile. ¼ knight's fee held by John de Tiveteshal. Sir Giles de Wachesham, father of Giles deceased, gave the manor to him and Joan his wife in marriage, and to the heirs of their bodies, and they held the same in his time for 20 years and more as his free tenants by service of 1¾ knight's fee.
Gerad his son, aged 19 on the day of St. Petronilla last, is his next heir.
