He was therefore 22 on 8 Sept. last. They remember because they were at dinner with Elizabeth FitzRoger, lady of Chewton Mendip, when she was told of the birth and asked to be godmother.
Richard Michell, Thomas Sambrook, Richard Walbrond and Hugh Walbrond, all aged 50 years and more, on that day were together when they heard that John Harewell, then bishop of Bath and Wells, had a new bell made at Wells weighing eight thousand (?) pounds. William was therefore 22 on the date stated.
John Toner, Robert Ives, Henry Vykarys and John Cokhull, all aged 40 years and more, were together coming to Farmborough, when they met William Erlyngham coming from Bristol to Paulton to raise William from the font. He was therefore 22 on 8 Sept. last.

He held in fee tail the manors of Backwell, Saltford and Twerton and half the manor of Rodney Stoke by knight service of Lord le Despenser who is under age in the king’s ward.
Thomas le Despenser, knight, who forfeited to the king, held the services owed by John Rodeney as parcel of the county of Gloucester by the grant of Edward I to Gilbert, sometime earl of Gloucester, his wife Joan and their heirs. They had three daughters, Eleanor, Elizabeth and Joan. Hugh le Despenser, son of the earl of Winchester, married Eleanor. The services were divided and those which Rodeney held were allocated to Eleanor and Hugh. They had two sons, Hugh and Edward, and after their deaths Hugh held them, and he died without heirs of his body. Then Edward held them and his son was Thomas le Despenser, who held as parcel of the honour of Gloucester. Thus this Thomas, who forfeited to the king, father of the present Lord Despenser, who is in the king’s ward, held the services of the late John Rodeney in fee tail as parcel of the county of Gloucester.

She held the manor of Moreton Pinkney for life of the king in chief as one quarter of a knight’s fee, annual value 10 marks. Henry Grene, knight, gave it by royal licence to Giles de St. John, Isabel [his mother], and the heirs of the body of Giles. Isabel survived him and so held it.
She also held in her demesne as of fee a third part of the manors of Stoke Bruerne, Shutlanger and Alderton with the advowsons of Stoke Bruerne and Alderton on the third vacancy. They are held of Reynold de Grey of Ruthin, service unknown, annual value 10 marks.
She died on 28 April [30 April in E 149/77, no. 4]. Margery wife of William Harwedon and daughter of Giles de St. John is heir, that is daughter of Giles, son of Isabel, and aged 30 years and more [34 in E 149/77, no. 4].
