HUNTINGDON. Inq. taken at Huntyngdon, Tuesday after St. Hilary, 26 Edward III.
Wodehurst. A messuage and 23a. land held of the abbot of Rameseye by knight’s service.
He died on the feast of St. Martin the bishop last. Joan his daughter, aged 3 years and more, is his heir.

2. ISABEL DE LITTLYNGTON.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Isabel, 28 January, 26 Edward III.
BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Bedford, 20 March, 26 Edward III.
Wardon. 6a. land in the common field and 2 1/2a. pasture which is several every alternate year, held of the king in chief by service of 4d. yearly; a toft held of Benet Blundel by service of 6d. yearly.
She died on Wednesday after St. Michael, 18 Edward III. John de Littlyngton, her son, aged 25 years and more, is her heir.

3. GEOFFREY GERARD or GERRAD of Fakenham Magna.
Writ, 29 March, 26 Edward III.
SUFFOLK. Inq. taken at Ixeworthe, 19 April, 26 Edward III.
Fakenham Magna. A messuage and 24a. land held of the king in chief by free socage by service of 1/2d. yearly to the ward of the castle of Norwich.
He died on Wednesday after St. Michael, 25 Edward III. Adam Gerrad, his brother, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

4. THOMAS, SON OF WILLIAM LE CLERC of Rillyngton.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Thomas, who held by knight’s service of the heir of William de Roos of Hamelak, a minor in the king’s wardship, 16 June, 26 Edward III.
YORK. Inq. taken at York, 18 July, 26 Edward III.
Rillyngton. A toft and three bovates of land held of the aforesaid heir by homage and fealty and by service of a fiftieth part of a knight’s fee.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on 20 August, 23 Edward III, in the pestilence. William his son, aged 32 years and more, is his heir.

5. JOHN DE HOULEYE, draper, of London.
Writ to Andrew Aubrey, mayor of London and escheator, 26 January, 26 Edward III.
Endorsed by the said mayor that he found as below. The messuage in the parish of St. Pancras he has, by the king’s writ dated 29 January last, delivered to William de Welde, attorney of Robert de Herle; and the other messuage &c. he has taken into the king’s hand, where they still are.
LONDON. Inq. taken at London before the said mayor, 27 January, 26 Edward III.
John de Houleye did not have an heir, because he was a bastard, and he died on 7 February, 25 Edward III, seised of a messuage in the parish of St. Pancras, and also of a small messuage in the parish of St. Mary le Bow (de Arcubus), with a solar built thereon and two shops and a solar built thereon adjoining the said messuage, all held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city of London.
The enrolment also contains a mandate to the mayor to deliver the messuage in St. Pancras’ parish to Robert de Herle, to whom the king has granted it, dated 29 January, and a note of livery of seisin on Saturday after the Purification, 26 Edward III [cf. Calendar of Patent Rolls, p. 209].

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of Thomas de Selby, who held by knight’s service of the heir of William de Roos of Hamelak, a minor in the king’s wardship, 6 February, 26 Edward III.
YORK. Inq. taken at York, 6 March, 26 Edward III.
Sutton upon Derewente. Two messuages and 2 1/2 bovates of land held of Eustachia de Percy by knight’s service.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on 14 August, 23 Edward III. Isabel, daughter of Beatrice de Selby, lately deceased, daughter of the said Thomas, aged seven years and more, is his heir.

7. ADA DE SANCTO FILBERTO or PHILBERTO.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Ada 23 July, 26 Edward III.
ESSEX. Inq. taken at Colcestre, Thursday before the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 26 Edward III.
Beauchamp Otes. Two parts of the manor held for her life of the demise of John Botourt, knight, long since deceased. The manor is held of the king as of the honour of Boulogne by service of a knight’s fee. The two parts ought to descend by inheritance to John, son and heir of the said John Botourt, together with the third part, which will fall in after the death of Margaret, late the wife of the said John. The said John the son was 22 years of age on the feast of St. Barnabas last.
She died about Whitsunday, 23 Edward III. John de Sancto Philberto, of full age, is her heir.

8. WILLIAM SON OF SERLO.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the land and heir of the said William, who held by knight’s service of the heir of William de Roos of Hamelak, a minor in the king’s wardship, 10 May, 26 Edward III.
YORK. Inq. taken at York, Friday after St. Peter’s Chains, 26 Edward III.
Middelton. A toft and two bovates of land held of the aforesaid heir by homage and by service of a thirty-second part of a knight’s fee. A great part of the land is in deep valleys and can at no time be sown nor any thing got from it (nec aliquid inde levari) on account of its poverty.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on 10 August, 23 Edward III, in the pestilence. John his son, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

SUFFOLK. Inq. taken at Ixeworth, 19 April, 26 Edward III.
Sapistone. A messuage, 18a. land, 2a. meadow and 1a. pasture held of the king in chief in free socage by service of 1d. yearly to the ward of the castle of Norwich.
He died on Wednesday in Whitsun week, 25 Edward III. Thomas Davy, son of Isabel Davy, sister of the deceased, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

WESTMORELAND. Inq. taken at Appilby, 18 November, 26 Edward III.
Thirneby. Two parts of the manor and a messuage and 80a. land called Tranterne, held jointly with Joan his wife and the heirs of their bodies, of the king in chief as of the fee of the lord of Coucy by homage and service of 33s. 4d.
He held no other lands &c in the county.
He died on 19 October. Joan, daughter of the said John and Joan, aged 13 years, is his heir.

SALOP. Inq. taken at Lodelowe, 12 November, 26 Edward III.
Little Sutton. A messuage and a bovate of land held of the king in chief by service of 2s. yearly and doing suit at the king’s hundred of Munselowe every three weeks.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
He died on 18 September last. Richard de Abbeton, his son, aged 26 years and more at Easter last, is his heir and is decrepit and impotent in body.

BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Chalfhunte, Thursday after SS. Peter and Paul, 26 Edward III.
Chalfhunte St. Giles. A messuage and a virgate of land held of the king in chief by homage and service of 2s. 3 1/2d. yearly for hidage and composition (prestacione) for beau-pleader; a messuage and a virgate of land held of the heirs of John de Wolverton by service of 4d. yearly.
He died on Friday in Easter week, 26 Edward III. Walter de Grove, his son, aged 20 years and more, is his heir.

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of John de Honeworth, 16 February, 26 Edward III.
NORFOLK. Inq. taken at Holt, 10 May, 26 Edward III.
Bodham. A messuage, 48a. land, 2a. pasture held of the king in chief as of the honour of Dover by service of 10s. yearly to the ward of the castle of Dover. Margaret, late the wife of the said John, holds in dower a third part of the said tenement.
He died on 7 September, 23 Edward III. William his son, aged 14 years and more, is his heir.

14. PHILIP, SON OF JOHN BROUN.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Philip, 6 October, 26 Edward III.
NORFOLK. Inq. taken at Norwich, 24 October, 26 Edward III.
Schippedene. He held no lands &c. except the advowson of the church of St. Peter of Schippedene, which is held of the king in chief in free socage by fealty only.
He died on 2 May, 18 Edward III. Richard his son, aged 21 years and more, is his heir.

15. ANDREW DE WALDEN.
Writ, 26 August, 26 Edward III.
ESSEX. Inq. taken at Aungre, Thursday before the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 26 Edward III.
Stanford Ryvers, Aungre and Welde. A messuage, a carucate of land and 800a. wood, held jointly with Joan his wife, who survives, of the king in chief by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, of the gift of Simon de Hormad and John Bataile to them and the heirs of the body of Andrew.
Laufare Magdalene. The manor held jointly with Joan his wife of the lady Elizabeth de Burgo by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee [as of] the castle of Aungre.
He died on Wednesday before the Assumption last. Thomas his son, aged six years and more, is his heir.

Writ of amotus, 11 March, 26 Edward III.
GLOUCESTER AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES. Inq. taken at Kerdif, Monday, 19 March, 26 Edward III.
Est Orchard. The manor (extent given) held of the heir of Hugh le Despenser, a minor. The said manor is held of the lord of Kerdyf, a minor, by the services of a knight’s fee, rendering yearly to the ward of the castle of Kerdyf 8s. 8d.
What he held of other lords the jury know not.
He died on Saturday after St. Martin, 25 Edward III. Laurence de Berkeroles, aged 14 years, is his heir.

17. THOMAS WALE.
Writ, 24 October, 26 Edward III.
NORTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Wedon Pynkenye, Tuesday after the Epiphany, 26 Edward III.
Wedon Pynkenye and Weston. Two messuages, held of the king in chief as of the fee of Pynkenye by knight’s service and by paying to the castle of Wyndesovere 22s. 6d. yearly payable in equal portions every six weeks; two virgates of land held by lady Nicholaa, late the wife of Thomas Wale, still surviving, of the king in chief as parcel of the manor, she having been enfeoffed jointly with the said Thomas to them and his heirs.
He died on Tuesday after St. Michael last. Peter Malorre, son of Margaret Malorre, elder sister of the deceased, and Alice, wife of Thomas Chaumberleyn, another sister, and Juliana, a third sister, aged 30 years and more, are his heirs.

18. MARGARET, LATE THE WIFE OF THOMAS DE HALE.
Writ, 28 March, 26 Edward III.
CUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Penreth, Tuesday after Holy Trinity, 26 Edward III.
Glassanby. Six messuages, 12 bovates of land, four cottages, 4a. land, a moiety of a watermill, a third part of a fulling mill and 3a. wood held of the king in chief by cornage of 3s. 6d. yearly to the exchequer at Carlisle.
Le Langholme in the forest of Inglewode. Two messuages, 16a. land and a sixth part of a water-mill and a fulling-mill held of the king of the purpresture of the forest of Inglewode by service of 6s. 8d. yearly to the same exchequer.
Caldebek. Two messuages and 35a. land held of Thomas de Lucy by cornage of 15d. and by service of 5s. yearly.
She died on Friday after St. Martin, 23 Edward III. Richard, son of the said Thomas and Margery (sic), aged 5 1/2 years, is her heir.

19. HENRY DE WELLES.

SOUTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Seint Denys by Suthampton, 16 April, 26 Edward III.
Badesle and Fritham in the New Forest. The manors held of Philippa, queen of England, in chief by service of doing suit at her court of Mynstede in the New Forest every three weeks and by rendering for a vaccary (pro custodia et exitu cujusdam vaccarie) of 30 cows and one bull 30s. yearly at the court of Lyndhurst.
The New Forest. 100a. purpresture called Northle held of the said queen by service of rendering 50s. yearly at the court of Lyndhurst, and another plot of land called ‘Riefeld bisouthewode’ held of the same, service not specified.
La Durneforde. A messuage with a garden, a watermill, 12a. land held of Peter Golde and Alice his wife by service of 6d. yearly and 1lb. cummin; a croft containing 4a. land held of the prior of Brommore by service of 12d. yearly.
Welles by Romesie. A messuage, a carucate of land and 10a. meadow held in socage of the abbess of Romesie by service of 17s. 10 3/4d. yearly; a messuage, 5a. land, 5a. meadow there held of Walter Skidemor, knight, by service of 4s. yearly.
La Wade. A messuage and half a carucate of land and 10a. meadow held of Thomas West, knight, by service of 5s. yearly.
Estdeone. 30a. land, 2a. meadow held of Miles de Stapelton and Laurence de Sancto Martino by service of 9s. yearly; 4a. land held of the same Miles and Laurence by service of 18d. yearly.
He died on 25 February, 26 Edward III. John de Welles, son of Thomas de Welles, aged 26 years and more, is his heir. (Three copies with different juries.)

HEREFORD AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES. Inq. taken at Whyle, Friday the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, 27 Edward III.
While. 1 1/2, carucates of land and 27s. rent held of the aforesaid heir by knight’s service for a quarter of a knight’s fee; 10a. arable held of the lord of Lastres; 1a. wood held of the lord of Bokelynton.
She died on 20 November, 26 Edward III. William de la Haye, aged 40 years, is her heir.

Writ after the death of John de Clavill, who held by knight’s service of the heir of John de Gatecombe, a minor in the king’s wardship, 10 February, 26 Edward III.

Wyppingham. A messuage and 30a. land held of John del Isle of Gatecomb in free socage by service of 5s. yearly.
He held nothing of other lords.
He died on 6 April, 23 Edward III. Felica his daughter, aged 14 years, is his heir.

22. MARIOTA, LATE THE WIFE OF HENRY SENESCHAL.
Writ, 23 October, 26 Edward III.
The writ is directed to James Lapyn, escheator of Kent, and the inquisition is taken before him, but the endorsement on the writ; stating that it has been executed, is made by William de Apuldrefeld, his successor.
KENT. Inq. taken at Wyngeham, Saturday before St. Martin, 26 Edward III.
Wyngeham. 10a. land, 4s. 4 1/4d. rent and a rent of two hens held of the king in chief by reason of the voidance of John de Offord, elected and confirmed, the archbishopric of Canterbury being vacant, by homage and suit of the great court at the palace of the archbishopric.
She died on Saturday after St. James, 22 Edward III. Maud, daughter and heir of John Seneschal, aged 5 years, is her heir.

23. THOMAS DE AGHMODESHAM or DE AGMONDESHAM the elder.
Writ, 16 September, 26 Edward III.
BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Agmondesham, Wednesday before St. Michael, 26 Edward III.
Agmondesham. A toft, 60a. land, 4a. meadow, 5a. wood and 20s. 8d. yearly rent and rents of two cocks and ten hens at Christmas from two customary tenants held of the king in chief by service of rendering 6s. 8d. yearly for petty serjeanty; a messuage, two carucates land, 10a. meadow, 6a. wood and 46s. rent from free tenants held of Sir Humphrey de Bohun, earl of Hereford, Anne la Despenser and the abbot of Mussenden by service of 76s. 8d. yearly.
Little Messenden. A water-mill held of John le Warde by fealty only and 13s. 2d. yearly rent from a free tenant held of the countess of Norfolk by fealty only.
He died on 9 September last. Thomas, son of Thomas de Agmondesham the younger, aged 10 years, is his heir.

24. JOHN, SON OF JOHN DE WYTON.
Writ, 14 June, 26 Edward III.
YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS. Inq. taken at Hedon, Thursday, 22 November, 26 Edward III.
Wyton and South Skirlagh. A hall situated within a messuage in Wyton held in demesne and a carucate and two bovates of land there and 2 1/2 carucates of land in South Skirlagh held in service of the king in chief as of the honour of Aumale by service of a ninth part of a knight’s fee and doing suit at the king’s wapentake of Holdernesse every three weeks and rendering to the king for ward of the castle of Skipse 2s. yearly. The abbot of Thornton and the prioress of Swyne hold two carucates and three bovates of the lands in Southskirlagh in frank almoin and divers free tenants hold the residue, viz. a carucate and three bovates by foreign service.
Wyton. A messuage outside the aforesaid hall, four tofts and 13 1/2 bovates of land held in demesne and a toft and a bovate of land held in service jointly with Alice his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs of their bodies of the king in chief as of the aforesaid honour by the aforesaid services.
Great Coldon. Two tofts and four bovates of land held jointly with the said Alice, of which one toft and three bovates of land are held of the abbot of Thornton by service of rendering 8s. yearly and one toft and one bovate of land are held of the archbishop of York by service of a rose yearly.
He died on 22 March last. His daughters, Isabel, who will be 6 years of age at the Purification next, and Christiana, who will be one year of age at the Annunciation next, are his heirs.

25. ROGER NEUMARCHE, knight, or ROGER DE NEUMARCHE.
Writ, 20 March, 26 Edward III.
YORK. Inq. taken at Doncastre, Saturday before St. Mark, 26 Edward III.
Thorp in Balne. The manor (extent given, with field names) held for his life of the grant of Henry de Bello Monte, late earl of Boghan, with reversion to the said Henry and his heirs. Part of the said manor is held of John de Rithre, knight, as of the manor of Heselwod, by knight’s service and by rendering to the said John and his heirs, lords of the said manor, 10s. yearly. Certain tenements in Ouston, which pertain to the said manor, are held of the duke of Lancaster by fealty and by service of 3s. yearly. One bovate of land in the said manor is held of Hugh de Hastynges, knight, by fealty and by service of 16d. yearly. The meadow del Hallegarth, which pertains to the said manor, is held of William de Scargill by fealty and by service of 18d. yearly. The extent includes a fishery in the river Done.
He held no other lands &c. for life in the county.
He died on Sunday in the second week of Lent last. Henry de Bello Monte, son and heir of John de Bello Monte, late son and heir of the aforesaid Henry de Bello Monte, late earl of Boghan, aged 8 years and more, is heir of the said Henry de Bello Monte of the said manor of Thorp. Robert Neumarche, son of Adam Neumarche, son of the deceased, aged 8 years and more, is his heir in blood.

26. MARGERY, LATE THE WIFE OF NICHOLAS DE LA BECHE, SOMETIME WIFE OF EDMUND BACOUN.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands held by the said Margery for life of the king in chief of the inheritance of the heir of Edmund, sometime her husband, 12 March, 26 Edward III.
ESSEX. Inq. taken at Chelmersford, Tuesday after Palm Sunday, 26 Edward III.
Hathfeld Peverel. The manor (extent given) held for her life, whereof a capital messuage with certain lands &c. is held of the king as of the honour of Huntyndon by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee, and other lands &c. are held of the earl of Hereford by service of 12d. yearly or a pair of gilt spurs.
She died at Cales, 20 March, 23 Edward III. Margery Bacon, aged 15 1/2 years, married to William son of John de Molyns, knight, is daughter and heir of Edmund Bacoun.

27. JOHN LATYMER or LATEMER.
Writ, 8 November, 26 Edward III.
SURREY. Inq. taken at Lageham, 4 May, 27 Edward III.
Wolkenstede. He held no lands &c. of the king in chief because, seven years before his death, he alienated all his tenements called Noubrich in the parish of Wolkenstede to William Filol and Mary his wife and their heirs. The said tenements are held of the heirs of John de Warbelton as of the manor of Tanruges by service of 1d. yearly.
He died eight years ago, on what day or at what time of the year they know not. Robert Latemer, knight, aged 30 years and more, is his brother and heir.
