First occ. as Durand the can., holding land in Twyford, of cans.' demesne, prob. not yet a prebend, 1086 (Domesday Book 1 fo. 127b; cf. Gibbs pp. xxiii-iv). Perhaps preb. by 1102 (Gibbs p. xxiii, and no. 178). Occ. as can. 1103/4 (WD 4 fo. 40/44r-v, pd. in Rep. p. 65a). Last occ. 1111/12 (A/24/521, pd. in Rep. p. 26a). Prob. mag. schol., first occ. c. 1102, d. some time before Jan. 1127 (above p. 25).

Occ. in cats. between William de Lodnes and William Passemer, 'Robertus de Insula'. Occ. as can. [Apr. 1234 × Nov. 1241] (A/30/426; A/32/601). (fn. 18) Said to have d. between 30 Sept. and 25 Dec. 1246 (Ann. Dunstable, Ann. Mon. 111 171), but presum. wrongly, because possibly to be identified with M. Robert de Insula, who was archdcn. of Colchester by Aug. 1248 (prob. by Jan. 1244), to Dec. 1252 or later (see above pp. 19- 20).
