Brend's Estate.

AN ingrossed Bill to enable Francis Brend Esquire, to sell Lands, was read the Third time.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act to enable Francis Brend Esquire, the surviving Son and Issue Male of Sir Mathew Brend Knight, deceased, to sell certain Lands for the raising of Three thousand Pounds for the Portions of Francis and Elizabeth Brend the Daughters of Tho. Brend Esquire, deceased, late elder Brother of the said Francis Brend.

And Sir Adam Brown is to carry up the Bill to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Poor Laws.

Ordered, That a Committee be appointed to inspect and peruse the Laws concerning the Poor; and consider, Which of them are fit to be repealed, and which confirmed; and to consider of Remedies and Expedients to prevent the great Growth and Increase of the Poor; and to supply the Defects of the former Laws, for settling and keeping the Poor on Work; and easing the Charge of the Country.

And it is referred to Mr. Mallet, Sir Edw. Deering, Mr. Cheny, Sir Jos. Tredenham, Sir Tho. Allen, Sir John Knight, Sir Ch. Wheeler, Sir Geo. Downing, Mr. Osborne, Mr. Crowch, Sir Wm. Lowther, Mr. Wright, Sir Fr. Drake, Sir Rich. Temple, Sir Tho. Meeres, Sir Anth. Irby, Sir Rob. Carr, Mr. Buscawen, Sir Henry Puckering, Sir Trevor Williams, Col. Birch, Sir Courtney Poole, Sir Tho. Mompesson, Mr. Pleydall, Sir Fr. Russell, Mr. Williams, Col. Sands, Mr. Westphaling, Sir Wm. Wentworth, Sir Geo. Reeves, Sir Adam Browne, Mr. Morris, Sir Edw. Harlo, Sir Tho. Littleton, Sir Ch. Harbord, Mr. Garraway, and all the Gentlemen of the Long Robe: And all that come are to have Voices: And they are to meet on Monday next, at Two of the Clock, in the Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Northern Borders.

Sir Geo. Downing reports from the Committee to whom the Bill to prevent Theft and Rapine, was committed, several Amendments, agreed by the Committee to be made to the Bill: Which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were twice read; and, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Ledbury Vicarage.

An ingrossed Bill, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act for the Augmentation of the Vicarage of Ledbury in the County of Hereford, was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill be committed, upon the Debates of the House, to Mr. Westphaling, Col. Birch, Sir Edw. Harlow, Sir John Knight, Sir Jos. Tredenham, Sir Anth. Irby, Sir Row. Barkeley, Sir John Birkenhead, Mr. Price, Col. Sandys, Sir Ric. Temple, Sir Court. Poole, Mr. Crowch, Sir Tho. Allen, Major Broxholme, Sir Trevor Williams, Col. Titus, Sir Rob. Sawyer, Sir John Talbot, Sir Ad. Browne, Mr. Morris, Sir Gilbert Talbot, Sir Hen. Puckering, Sir Edm. Jenings, Sir Tho. Littleton, Sir Geo. Downing, Sir Gilbert Gerrard, Mr. Wright, Serj. Popish Recusants.

An ingrossed Bill, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act for Explanation of an Act, intituled, An Act for preventing Dangers which may happen from Popish Recusants.

The Question being put, That the Bill be committed;

The House divide.

The Yeas go forth.

And so it passed in the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill be rejected.

Lords reminded of a Bill.

Ordered, That a Message be sent to the Lords, to remind them of the Bill sent from this House, intituled, An Act for suppressing the Growth of Popery.

And Mr. Powle is to go up with the Message.

Preservation of Fishing.

Sir John Trevor reports from the Committee, to whom the Bill for Preservation of the Piscary in several Rivers of this Kingdom, some Amendments, agreed by the Committee to be made to the Bill: Which he read in his Place; and afterwards, delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed.

Several Amendments being proposed to be made at the Table;

And a Motion being made for Re-commitment of the Bill;

Ordered, That the Bill be re-committed to the former Committee: And they are to sit this Afternoon in the Place formerly appointed.

Westmerland Writ.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue forth his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ, for the Electing of a Knight of the Shire to serve in this present Parliament for the County of Westmerland, in room of Sir Phillip Musgrave, deceased.

Army Officers.

Mr. Secretary Williamson delivers in a Paper, containing, A List of the General Officers in the Army, and their Entertainment.

The Question being put, That the Paper delivered in by Mr. Secretary Williamson, be read.

Dorse Election.

Sir Tho. Meeres reports from the Committee of Privileges and Elections, the Matter upon the Election of a Knight of the Shire, for the County of Dorsett: That the Committee, taking the same into Consideration, had ordered him to make this Report following; viz.

Whereas, on the Thirtieth Day of April last, an Election was intended to be made of a Knight of the Shire for the County of Dorset, upon a Writ legally issued for that Purpose.

Resolved, &c. That such Election, and the Return thereupon, are void:

Because the said Sheriff did not execute or obey his Writ.

Because he left divers Freeholders unpolled; and made no due Proclamation before he closed the Poll.

Because he did not number those Voices he had polled; nor declared who he judged to be duly elected.

Lastly, he returned two Persons, when he should have returned but One; and signified such his Return to be the Agreement of the Parties, rather than his Judgment, according to Right and Law.

Meeres, Sir Trevor Williams, Sir Courtney Poole, Mr. Garraway, Sir George Downing, Mr. Waller, Sir John Knight, Mr. Sachaverell, Mr. Mallet, or any Three of them; to prepare and bring in the Bill: And they are to meet this Afternoon, at Three of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Eight of the Clock.
