Cliderow Election.

A PETITION of Sir Ralph Ashton Baronet, was read, complaining of an undue Return of Sir Thomas Stringer, to serve for the Borough of Cliderow in the County of Lancaster, in Injury of the Petitioner; who was duly elected, and ought to have been returned.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Committee of Privileges and Elections; to examine the Matter of the Petition; and to report the State of the Case, with their Opinions, to the House.

Lord Maynard's Estate.

A Bill, sent from the Lords, for rectifying a Mistake, in a general Settlement of the Lord Maynard's Estate, upon the Marriage of his Son, was read.

Resolved, &c. That this Bill be read a Second time.

Smith's Estate.

A Bill to enable Trustees to sell Lands for Payment of the Debts of Sir Thomas Smith Baronet, was read.

Repair of Churches.

A Bill for the better repair of Churches and Chapels, was read.

Fines and Recoveries.

A Bill for better Assurance of such as claim under ancient Fines and Recoveries, was read.

Poor Laws.

Ordered, That Monday Morning next be appointed to take into Consideration the extraordinary Charge and Inconvenience to the Nation, for want of setting to work and well ordering the Poor; and to inspect and consider the Laws now in Force, concerning the Poor.

Exporting Leather.

A Bill for reviving and continuing an Act for Exportation of Leather, was read the Second time.

Fire in Southwarke.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill for adjusting and settling Differences between Landlords and Tenants, touching Houses lately burnt and destroyed by the Fire in Southwarke; and which are or shall be rebuilt.

Hemp and Flax Sowing.

A Bill to encourage the Planting and Sowing of Flax and Hemp, was read the Second time.

Mis-entry in Journal to be rectified.

Information being given of a Mis-entry made in the Journal of this House, in the Year 1672, in Prejudice of the Privilege of this House; and of an Omission of an Entry in the Journal, this Session, of the House agreeing with the Committee in the Vote concerning Grievances;

Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Sacheverell, Sir Wm. Hickman, Mr. Garraway, Mr. Sawyer, Mr. Secretary Williamson, Lord Ancram, Sir Tho. Littleton, Sir Tho. Meres, Col. Byrch, Sir John Berkenhead, Sir John Otway, Sir Geo. Downing, Sir Richard Temple, Sir Eliab Harvey, Sir Tho. Lee, Mr. Williams, or any Three of them, to inspect the Journals of this House, of the Year 1672; and to examine the Matter touching the Entry therein; and report it, with their Opinion, to the House.
