Wednesday, January 11th, 1659.

Custos Rotulorum of Westminster.

RESOLVED, upon the Question, by the Parliament, That this House doth approve of Thomas Scot Esquire, nominated by the Governors of the School and Almshouses of Westminster, to be Custos Rotulorum of the City and Liberties of Westminster: And, It is

Ordered, That the Records be forthwith delivered to the said Thomas Scot, or such Person or Persons as he shall appoint, under his Hand, to receive the same: And all Person or Persons whom it doth or may concern, be and are required and enjoined to deliver the said Records accordingly: And the Commissioners for Custody of the Great Seal are hereby authorized and required to pass a Confirmation of the said Office of Custos Rotulorum unto the said Thomas Scot, under the Great Seal, in usual Form, accordingly.

Lieutenant of the Tower.

A Commission, constituting Herbert Morley Esquire Lieutenant of the Tower of London, during the Pleasure of the Parliament, was read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

Colonel Morley came from his Place; and, making his Obeisance, came up to the Clerk's Table: And Mr. Speaker acquainted him with the great Trust the Parliament reposed in him; and that the Parliament expected Faithfulness from him to the Parliament and Commonwealth: And thereupon delivered him his Commission to be Lieutenant of the Tower of London.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to consider, What Improvement and Advantage may be made of the Tower of London, or any Appurtenant thereunto belonging; and report their Opinion therein to the Parliament; viz. Mr. Weaver, Colonel Morley, Sir Henry Mildmay, Mr. Sey, Mr. Ralegh, Mr. * Goodwin, Colonel Harvey, Mr. John Lenthall, Colonel Thompson, Sir John Bourchier, Sir Peter Wentworth, Sir James Harrington, Sir Arthur Hesilrig, Mr. Challoner, Mr. Solicitor Reynolds, Mr. Garland, Mr. Skynner, Mr. Love, Mr. Pury; or any Five of them: And are to meet in the Speaker's Chamber, at Two of the Clock, To-morrow in the Afternoon.

Clerk of Parliament, &c.

Ordered, That Mr. Millington do make the Report touching the settling the Offices of Clerk of the Parliament, and Clerk-Assistant, on this Day Sevennight.

Judges.

Ordered, That the Report touching nominating Judges be made on Saturday Morning next: And that it be referred to the same Committee, to bring in the Names of Judges for Probate of Wills, and Court of Admiralty: And that they report it the same Day to the Parliament. And the said Committee are to meet this Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Army Committee.

A Bill for constituting a Committee for the Army, and Treasurers at War, was this Day read the First time.

Ordered, That this Bill be read the Second time To-morrow Morning.

Elections.

A Bill, disabling Persons to elect, or be elected to this present Parliament, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question committed; viz. unto Mr. Nevill, Lord Commissioner Lisle, Sir Arthur Hesilrig, Sir Henry Mildmay, Mr. West, Mr. Dormer, Mr. Millington, Mr. Cawley, Mr. Lenthall, Colonel White, Colonel Martin, Mr. Robinson, Colonel Morley, Lord Chief-Baron Wild, Sir Anth. Ashley Cooper, Mr. Skynner, Mr. Solicitor Reynolds, Mr. Goodwin, Colonel James Temple, Colonel Harvey, Mr. Boone, Mr. Love, Mr. Wallop, Mr. Pury, Lord Monson, Mr. Oldsworth, Colonel Dove, Alderman Pennington, Mr. Corbet, Colonel Walton, Colonel Lister, Sir James Harrington, Sir Tho. Wroth, Mr. Sey: And all that come to have Voices: And are to consider, In what manner this Parliament may be made, so as to be a Foundation for future Parliaments, and the Settlement of the Nation, as to that Particular: And this Committee are to meet To-morrow Morning, at Seven of the Clock, in the Exchequer-Chamber: And Mr. Corbet is to take care of it.

Army Appointments.

Colonel Walton reports from the Council of State, That the Officers of the several Regiments may be taken into Consideration, and dispatched; and that Commissions may be speedily granted unto them; and especially the Officers of Colonel Crooke's Regiment, in the first place, if they so please: And that the Parliament will be pleased to take into Consideration the Business concerning Money.

A List of the Names of Officers of Colonel Crooke his Regiment of Horse, were read; viz.

1. Unton Crooke, Colonel and Captain; Charles Crooke, Captain-Lieutenant; George Rogers, Cornet; Henry Draper, Quarter-master.

2. George Sedascue, Major and Captain; Richard Farley, Lieutenant; Christopher Hutton, Cornet; Robert Dand, Quarter-master.

3. Nathaniell Whetham, Captain; Robert Farrer, Lieutenant; Martin Pigott, Cornet; Tho. Denton, Quarter-master.

4. Noell Boteler, Captain; Henry Panckridge, Lieutenant; Tho. Cooper, Cornet; Tho. Bowler, Quarter-master.

5. David Gascoigne, Captain; Wm. Upcott, Lieutenant; Tho. Berry, Cornet; Wm. Platt, Quarter-master.

6. Tho. Randall, Captain; Robert Farrer, Lieutenant; John Clement, Cornet; * *, Quarter-master.

And the said Names being severally put to the Question; It was

Resolved, That Colonel Unton Crooke be Colonel of a Regiment of Horse, and Captain of a Troop in the same.

Resolved, That Charles Crooke be Captain-Lieutenant of the said Regiment.

Resolved, That George Rogers be Cornet of the said Troop, whereof the said Colonel is Captain.

Resolved, That Henry Draper be Quarter-master of the said Troop.

Resolved, That Major George Sedascue be Major of this Regiment, and Captain of a Troop in the same.

Resolved, That Richard Farley be Lieutenant of this Troop.

Resolved, That Christopher Hutton be Cornet of this Troop.

Resolved, That Robert Dand be Quarter-master to this Troop.

Resolved, That Nathaniell Whetham be Captain of a Troop in the said Regiment.

Resolved, That * * * *.

Resolved, That Martin Pigot be Cornet to this Troop.

Resolved, That Tho. Denton be Quarter-master to this Troop.

Resolved, That Noell Boteler be Captain of a Troop in this Regiment.

Resolved, That Henry Pankridge be Lieutenant of this Troop.

Resolved, That Thomas Cooper be Cornet of this Troop.

Resolved, That Thomas Bowler be Quarter-master of this Troop.

Resolved, That David Gascoigne be Captain of a Troop in this Regiment.

Resolved, That Wm. Upcot be Lieutenant of this Troop.

Resolved, That Thomas Berry be Cornet of this Troop.

Resolved, That Wm. Plat be Quarter-master of this Troop.

Resolved, That John Randolph be Captain of a Troop in this Regiment.

Resolved, That Robert Farrer be Lieutenant of this Troop.

Resolved, That John Clement be Cornet of this Troop.

A Commission, constituting Unton Crooke Colonel of a Regiment of Horse and Captain of a Troop of Horse, was read.

Resolved, That, next after the Word "State," these Words be added, "appointed by Authority of Parliament."

And the said Commission, so amended, was agreed unto.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker be, and is hereby, impowered to sign the said Commission, and such other Commissions of other Officers as shall be passed by the Parliament.

The House being informed, That Colonel Unton Crooke was at the Door;

He was called in ; and making his Obeisance, came up to the Clerk's Table: And Mr. Speaker acquainted him with the great Trust the Parliament reposed in him; and that the Parliament did expect Faithfulness from him to the Parliament and Commonwealth of England: And thereupon delivered him his Commission to be Colonel of a Regiment of Horse.

Resolved, That Colonel Valentine Walton be Colonel and Captain of the Regiment late of Colonel Morley.

Resolved, That Sir Anthony Ashley Cooper Baronet be Colonel of that Regiment of Horse, whereof Lieutenant-General Fleetwood was Colonel.
