Friday, 29 May, 1657.

Popish Recusants.

THE House this Day resumed the Debate upon the Amendments to the Bill, intituled, An Act for Discovering, Convicting, and Repressing, of Popish Recusants, Yesterday reported.

The Oath in the Amendments was read.

And the Question being put, That the House doth agree with the Committee, That this shall be the Form of the Oath in this Bill;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That this Bill, with the Amendments, be recommitted to the same Committee: To meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Resolved, That this be especially recommended to the Committee: And to bring in their Report on Tuesday next.

Letter from the Protector.

A Letter from his Highness the Lord Protector, of the Twenty-ninth of May 1657, directed to Mr. Speaker, and by him communicated to the House, touching an Adjournment or Prorogation of the Parliament, was this Day read.

Blake's Victory.

Sir Richard Onsloe reports from the Committee appointed to attend his Highness with the Votes of this House made Yesterday, appointing a Day to be set apart for Thanksgiving, and a Jewel of Five hundred Pounds to be given to General Blake, and One hundred Pounds to be given to Captain Story, That his Highness doth consent to them all.

Resolved, That Mr. Joseph Caryll be desired to preach before the Parliament at Margarett's Westminster, on Wednesday next, being a Day set apart for Publick Thanksgiving for the Success of the Fleet against the Spaniard: And that the Lord Strickland do give him Notice hereof, accordingly.

Estates in Ireland.

Major Morgan reports, Amendments to the Bill for the Assuring, Confirming, and Settling, of Lands and Estates in Ireland: Which were twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed.

And the Bill, so amended, was ordered to be ingrossed.

Ld. Craven's Estate.

Resolved, That the Business upon the Petition of the Lord Craven be heard at the Bar the first Saturday of the Meeting of the Parliament after Michaelmas.

Ordered, That his Highness' Counsel at Law, and his Highness' Advocate, and the Counsel for the Purchasers, do attend then.

Lady Sterling, &c.

Resolved, That the Business, upon the Petition of the Countess of Sterling, and others, against Mr. Levingston, be heard the Second Saturday of the next Meeting of the Parliament after Michaelmas.

A Letter from his Highness the Lord Protector, of the Twenty-eighth of May 1657, directed to Mr. Speaker, with a Petition therein inclosed, to his Highness the Lord Protector, intituled, The humble Petition of the Officers of your Highness' Army in Ireland, in behalf of themselves, and those under their Charge, were this Day read.

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Irish Committee, to take into Consideration, and state Matter of Fact; and report it to the House, with their Opinion therein.

Irish Adventurers.

Ordered, That the Bill for Adventurers in Ireland be read on Monday Morning next.

Ordered, That Mr. Rushworth and Mr. Burton be added to the Committee for Durham.
