Friday, the 18th of June, 1652.

Prayers.

Embassy from Holland.

SIR Henry Vane junior reports, from the Council of State, That in pursuance of the Paper of the Lord Paw, Extraordinary Ambassador of the United Provinces, desiring a speedy Meeting with the Commissioners of the Council, to propound Matters of great Moment, the said Commissioners gave him a Meeting at Six a Clock last Night: Where, having made Propositions by Word of Mouth, . . . sent a Paper, to the same Effect thereof, this Morning to the Council: Which Paper he now reported; and the same was now read.

Resolved, That this Paper be referred to the Council of State; and that they do take into Consideration, what Demands are fit to be made, both for Satisfaction and Security; and report their Opinions to the House on Tuesday next.

Army Accompts.

Ordered, That on Wednesday next, the Bill touching the Accompts of the Soldiers be reported.

Ld. Howard's Petition.

The Question being put, That the Petition of the Lord Howard be read on Wednesday next;

And the Question being put, That That Question be now put;

The House was divided.

The Noes went forth.

So it passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That the Petition of the Lord Howard be read on Wednesday next.

Army Committee, &c.

Colonel Downes reports Amendments to the Act for Continuing of the Committee of the Army, and Treasurers at War: Which were twice read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Resolved, That John Lenthall Esquire be added to that Committee.

The Question being put, That this Bill be ingrossed;

It passed with the Negative.

And the said Bill, so amended, being put to the Question, passed: And it is Ordered to be forthwith printed and published.

Salt-petre.

Colonel Wauton reports, from the Council of State, That the Council having treated with the East India Company concerning the Petre now in their Hands, being about Seventy or Eighty Ton, they find, That the Company is willing to deliver the same, refined to the Height, unto the Powder-Makers, at the Rate of Four Pounds Eight Shillings a Hundred-weight; and to allow Three Six-Months Discount, to be paid out of the Customs in July or August next: At which Rate the Powder-Makers will undertake to serve the State with Powder for Four Pounds a Barrel: But, if the Parliament will be pleased to assign Payment for the said Petre, out of the 100,000£. growing due to the Army upon the Excise, in Course, next after the 100,000£. charged upon the 400,000£. upon Weavers-hall, is paid to the Navy, then the said Company will deliver their Petre, refined to the aforesaid Height, unto the Powder-Makers, at Four Pounds the Hundredweight: And the Powder-Makers, at that Rate of Petre, will serve the State with Powder for Three Pounds Seventeen Shillings and Sixpence a Barrel: The Result of which Treaty, and the Disproportion of Price, arising upon the abovesaid Grounds, the Council hath thought fit humbly to represent to the Parliament, for their Orders and Resolution therein.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That the Money to be paid upon the Bargain for this Petre, be charged upon the Remainder of the 50,000£. yet undisposed of out of the Monies to be raised, by way of Doubling, upon the Sale of Delinquents Lands: And that it be referred to the Council of State, to consider and direct how, and in what manner, the same shall be paid: And that the same be, according to their Order, paid, accordingly.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Council of State, to consider how Petre may be made in this Nation, for Supply of the Service of the Commonwealth: And to bring in an Act, accordingly.

Forseited Estates.

Resolved, That the Sum of Ten thousand Pounds, for Carrying on of the Business of the Surveyors of the Lands and Estates forfeited to the Commonwealth, for Treason, be charged upon the Remainder of the 50,000£. to be raised, by way of Doubling, on those Lands; to be issued in such Manner, as the Council of State shall direct.

Navy Officers.

Ordered, That the Council of State have the like Power to allow Gratuity-Money to the several Officers of the State's Ships, by way of Augmentation of their Wages, for this Year, as they had to allow the same the last Year: And that the Committee of the Navy do cause the same to be paid, according to the Direction and Order of the Council of State.

Committee of Indemnity.

Resolved, That the Amendments to the Act for transferring the Powers of the late Committee of Indemnity, be reported on Wednesday Morning next.

Relief of Tenants.

Resolved, That the Bill for Relief of the Tenants of Delinquents Landlords be read on Friday Morning next.

The House, according to former Order, adjourned itself to Tuesday Morning next, Eight of Clock.
