Prayers.
Letter read.
A LETTER from Colonel John Lambert, of the 14th of February 1659, was read.
Excise and Customs.
Ordered, That a Bill be brought in, on Monday Morning next, for settling the Excise and Customs: And that Colonel White and Mr. Robinson, do bring in the said Bill.
Elections.
Resolved, That the Bill disabling Persons to elect, or be elected, to this Parliament, be ingrossed.
A Bill, ingrossed, intituled, An Act disabling Persons to elect, or be elected, to this present Parliament, was this Day read the Third time.
The Question being put, That these Words, "by the Year," in the * Line, next after the Word " *," do stand in the Bill;
It passed with the Negative.
The Question being put, That these Words, "and have received Maintenance or Salary for the same," be inserted, in the * Line, next after the Word "are;"
It passed with the Negative.
Resolved, That the Word "and" be inserted, next after the Word "Electors," and before the Word "Sheriffs," in the * Line.
Resolved, That the Word "at" be inserted, in the * Line, next after the Word "before."
The Question being put, That there be any further Addition to this Bill;
It passed with the Negative.
Resolved, That this be the Title to the Bill; viz. An Act concerning Elections of Members to serve in Parliament.
And the said Bill so amended, being put to the Question, passed.
Ordered, That this Bill be forthwith printed and published.
Ordered, That Colonel Harvey, Mr. Love, and Mr. Robinson, do examine the said Act, to see that there be Coherence throughout the whole Act, and no Miswriting.
Army Pay.
Sir Arthur Hesilrig reports from the Council of State, That although they have ordered a Month's Pay to the Forces, yet the Council is informed, that the Sum is not answered; whereby the Forces in these Parts are exposed to Difficulty: Together with the Council's humble Desire, That such Obstructions as hinder the Payment thereof may be removed, so as their Order in this Behalf may be made effectual.
Resolved, That this Business be referred to the Committee of the Army; to take the same into Consideration.
Navy Appointments.
Mr. Boone reports from the Commissioners for the Admiralty and Navy, That the said Commissioners do humbly present unto the Parliament, Captain Robert Plumleigh, to take Charge of, and command, the Reserve Frigate, now preparing to go to Sea, for the Service of the Commonwealth: As also, Samuel Barnes to be Lieutenant of the said Ship.
Resolved, That Robert Plumleigh be, and is hereby, approved of to take Charge of, and command as Captain of the Reserve Frigate, for the Service of the Commonwealth: And that Samuel Barnes be Lieutenant of the said Ship.
The House adjourned till Monday Morning, Eight of Clock.
