Saturday, September 17th, 1659.

Irish Adventurers.

THE House, according to former Order, resumed the Debate upon the Bill for settling Lands and Estates upon the Adventurers and Soldiers in Ireland.

An enacting Clause was tendered to the said Bill; "That Lands of Dirrywoone in the County of Tirone, heretofore in the Tenure and Occupation of Sir George Hamilton and Sir Alexander Hamilton, and now in the Occupation of John Dixon, shall be continued, and remain, unto the said John Dixon, his Heirs and Assigns, notwithstanding he hath not put in his Claim to the Premises, according to the Time appointed; any Law, Statute, or Ordinance to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding:" Which was read the First time.

Ordered, That this Bill be ingrossed, and brought in the Third of October next.

Ordered, That the Committee that brought in this Bill, be revived, and sit de die in diem; with Power to receive the Provisoes and Petitions tendered to this Bill, at the Table, this Day, and none other; and to try and examine, Which of them are necessary to be added to the Bill; and report their Opinion therein to this House, and to tender such as they think fit to the House, ingrossed in Parchment, upon reading the Bill ingrossed.

Newcastle Corporation.

A Bill for the better Government of the Town and County of Newcastle upon Tyne, for one Year, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Nevill, Sir Henry Mildmay, Sir John Bouchier, Sir James Harrington, Colonel Marten, Colonel Downes, Mr. Robinson, Colonel Rich, Mr. Nelthrope, Mr. Love, Colonel Sydenham, Mr. John Goodwin, Mr. Holland, Mr. Garland, Colonel Bennett, Mr. Ralegh, Colonel Harvey, Major Salwey, Sir Arthur Hesilrig, Mr. Robert Goodwin, Mr. Say, Sir Wm. Strickland, Colonel White, Mr. Dove, Lord Viscount Lisle, Captain Skynner, Mr. Heveningham, Mr. Oldsworth, Mr. Pury, Alderman Atkin, Colonel Barker, Mr. Millington, Mr. Piggott; or any Five of them: And are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber: With Power to offer to this House, fit Qualifications of Persons to govern the several Corporations within this Commonwealth, for the Year ensuing.

Chester Corporation.

The humble Petition of several of the Inhabitants of the City of Chester, in the Behalf of themselves, and the Well-affected in the said City, was read.

Resolved, That the Corporation of the City of Chester be, and is hereby, dissolved and disincorporated.

Resolved, That the Charter of that City, be, and is hereby, declared void and null, as to the Incorporating of that City.

Resolved, That the City of Chester, and the County of the City of Chester, shall be no longer a distinct County of itself, and shall have no distinct County Jurisdiction; but shall be laid to the County at large.

Resolved, That it be referred to the said Committee, to consider, How these Votes may be put in Execution; and of the Government of the said City; and how the Peace of that Place may be preserved, and the Well-affected within the said City encouraged.

Grant to Croxton.

Ordered, That the Sum of Three hundred Pounds be given to Colonel Croxton, as a Mark of Respect from the Parliament to Colonel Croxton, for his Merits, and good Service: And that the Council of State do see it paid to him, or his Assigns, accordingly.

Customs, &c.

Resolved, That the Business of settling the Customs and Excise be taken into Consideration on Monday Morning next; nothing to intervene.

Corporations

Resolved, That, in all corporations within this Commonwealth, when the Day for Election of Officers within the said Corporation falls upon the Lord's Day, the Election shall be deferred, and put off, till the next Day; and all Elections, made on the said Day next ensuing the Lord's Day, shall be as good and effectual, to all Intents and Purposes, as if the same had been made on the Days limited by their respective Charters or Customs; any Usage, Charter, or Custom to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding.
