Friday, the 4th of November, 1653.

Assessment.

A BILL for an Assessment, at the Rate of by the Month, for Months, from the 25th Day of December 1653, to the Day of then next ensuing, towards the Maintenance of the Armies and Navies of this Commonwealth, was this Day read the First time; and ordered to be read the Second time on Monday next.

Committee for Petitions.

Resolved, That Wednesday next be appointed for hearing the Reports from the Committee for Petitions.

Writs of Error.

A Bill, intituled, An Act for Redress of Delays and Mischief arising by Writs of Error, and Writs of false Judgment in several Causes, was this Day read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That the First Blank in this Bill be filled up with "the 7th Day of November 1653."

Resolved, That the Second Blank be filled up with "the 7th Day of November 1653."

Resolved, That the Third and Fourth Blank be filled with "the 7th Day of November 1653."

The Question being put, That this Proviso, "Provided also, that this Act shall continue in Force until the Day of in the Year of our Lord One thousand Six hundred Fifty and," shall stand;

It passed in the Negative.

The Question being put, That this Bill be ingrossed;

It passed in the Negative.

Then the Bill, so amended, being put to the Question, passed: And was ordered to be printed and published.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, That Major-General Desborow have Leave to go into the Country, and to be absent for Ten Days.

The Engagement.

A Bill, intituled, An Act for repealing of a Branch of a certain Act of the late Parliament, intituled, An Act for Subscribing the Engagement, was this Day read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That the Blank in this Bill be filled up with "the 5th of November 1653."

The Question being put for Ingrossing;

It passed in the Negative.

Then the Bill, so amended, being put to the Question, passed: And was ordered to be forthwith printed and published.

Claims before Com rs of Obstructions.

A Bill, intituled, An Act concerning the Determination of several Claims now depending before the Commissioners for removing Obstructions, was this Day read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That, in the Twelfth Line, these Words be inserted, next after the Word "and," "if they should;" and the Word "so" left out.

Resolved, That the First Blank be filled up with "the First of February 1653."

Resolved, That the next Blank be filled up with "Three for the Quorum."

The Question being put, That this Bill be ingrossed;

It passed in the Negative.

And then the Bill, so amended, being put to the Question, passed: And was ordered to be printed and published.

Publick Revenue.

A Bill, intituled, An Act constituting a Committee for the Revenue, and for Repealing the Powers given to the former Committee for and concerning the same, was this Day read the First and Second time.

A Clause was offered to be added to this Bill, in these Words; "And that all Persons whatsoever, who have at any time acted by virtue of any the Ordinances, Orders, or Acts of the late Parliament, aforesaid, or in Subordination to them, or any of them, shall, and are hereby made accountable for all and every their said respective Actings, unto the Committee hereafter in this Act appointed, or any or more of them:" Which was also read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That this Bill and Clause be committed to the Committee for Inspections: And that Mr. John Brewster be added to that Committee for this Purpose only.

Ordered, That the Matter upon the present Debate of the House touching the Court of Exchequer, be referred to the same Committee; and to report to the House what they think fit.

The House, according to former Order, did adjourn to Monday next, Eight of Clock.
