Tuesday, the 27th of April, 1652.

Prayers.

Isle of Basse.

A LETTER from Major General Richard Deane, from Dalkeith in Scotland, of the 10th of April 1652; and the Articles of the Rendition of the Isle of Basse; and a List of the Arms, Ordnance, and Ammunition, that were found therein, were this Day read.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of the Articles made upon the Rendition of the Isle of Basse.

Thanks to Gen. Deane.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks be sent to Major General Deane, for his good Service in taking the Isle of Basse: And that Colonel Marten do prepare the said Letter, and Mr. Speaker do sign the same.

Records at Isle of Busse.

Ordered, That, in the said Letter, Major General Deane be made acquainted with the Mind of the House, That he cause the Publick Records of the Kirk, taken in the said Isle, to be packed up in Cask, and to be sent to the Tower of London; there to remain under the same Custody that the other Records, which came from Scotland, are.

Publick Faith.

Ordered, That Power be given to the Committee to whom the Business touching the Publick Faith is referred, to receive such Propositions or Proposals, as shall be tendered unto them, for the Advantage of the Commonwealth, in relation to the Business of the Publick Faith; and to consider thereof; and report such of them as they shall think fit, with their Opinion thereupon, to the House.

Committee of Indemnity.

Mr. Stephens reports an Act for transferring the Powers of the Committee of Indemnity: Which was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to Lord General, Colonel Morley, Colonel Marten, Lord Commissioner Whitelock, Mr. Darley, Lord Commissioner Lisle, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Stephens, Major General Harrison, Mr. Holland, Major General Skippon, Alderman Atkin, Mr. Long, Mr. Bond, Mr. Nevill, Mr. Smyth, Mr. Attorney, Mr. Edwards, Colonel Sidney, Serjeant Widdrington, or any Five of them; and all that come to have Voices; with Power to consider of the former Powers of the Committee of Indemnity, which of them are fit to be continued: And the Committee are to meet, at Two of Clock this Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber: And this Committee are to take care that the Records of the Committee for Indemnity be delivered to the Clerk of the Parliament, to be safely kept.

Isle of Jersey.

Ordered, That Mr. Bond do make the Report touching the Isle of Jersey, To-morrow Morning, the first Business.

Ministers.

Ordered, That, on Friday next, the House do take into Consideration the Committee of plundered Ministers.

Insolvent Debtors.

An additional Act for the Relief of poor Prisoners was this Day read the First time.

Resolved, That this Act be now read the Second time.

And the said Act was now read the Second time, accordingly.

The Question being put, That the Blank in this Act be filled up with "the 24th of June;"

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That the Blank in this Act be filled up with "the 24th of June.

The Question being put, That this Act, so amended, be ingrossed;

It passed with the Negative.

And the said Act, so amended, being put to the Question, passed: And It is

Ordered, That the said Act be forthwith printed and published.

Poor.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That it be referred to a Committee to consider how, and by what means, the Poor may be set on Work throughout the Nation; and such Poor as are not able to work may be relieved; to prevent common Begging: And to report their Opinion therein to the House.

Resolved, That it be referred to the same Committee, to revise all the Laws touching the Relief of the Poor, and Setting them on Work; and to consider, by what Means or Default the same are become ineffectual, or are not put in Execution; and report the same, with their Opinion what Means are fit for the Redress thereof, to the House.

Resolved, That the same Committee be impowered to receive such Proposals as shall be tendered unto them by any Persons, for the better effecting the Premises; and to consider of them; and report their Opinions therein to the House; viz. unto Lord General, Sir G. Pickering, Colonel Rich, Mr. Holland, Major General Harrison, Mr. Westrow, Colonel Fenwick, Major General Skippon, Mr. Hill, Alderman Atkins, Mr. Corbett, Lord Grey, Mr. Carew, Mr. Dove, Mr. Strickland, Mr. Gold, Mr. Boone, Mr. Heveningham, Mr. Garland, Mr. Whittakre; or any Five of them; and all that come to have Voices: And this Committee are to meet To-morrow in the Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber: And Major General Harrison, Sir Gilbert Pickering, and Mr. Holland, are to take care hereof.

Resolved, That it be referred to the same Committee, to receive, from the City of London, such Proposals as shall be tendered unto them, touching the better Setting the Poor on Work; and to consider of them; and report their Opinion therein to the House.

Relief under Articles.

Ordered, That the Amendments to the Act for Articles be made To-morrow Morning, the First Business.

Highways.

Ordered, That the Act touching the Highways be read To-morrow Morning, next after the Act for Articles.

Ld. Huntingdon's Esate.

Ordered, That the Act for enabling the Lord Huntingdon to sell Lands, for Payment of his Debts, be read Tomorrow Morning.
