Die Jovis, 11 Octobris, 1649.

Prayers.

Thanks giving Day.

SIR William Masham reports an Act for a Day of Publick Thanksgiving, to be observed and kept on Thursday the First of November 1649; together with a Declaration of the Grounds thereof.

Which was this Day read the First and Second time: And, after some Amendments at the Table, the Act, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be forthwith printed and published.

Ordered, That Twelve thousand of the said Acts be forthwith printed, to be sent to the Sheriffs of the several Counties, to be dispersed to all the Ministers of the several Parishes in England and Wales, and Town of Barwick: And that the Council of State do give Order for the doing thereof accordingly.

Grant to Porter.

Ordered, That One hundred Pounds be given to Captain Porter, who brought the News of the great Successes in Ireland, for his Pains and Travel therein: And that the Council of State do take care to see the said One hundred Pounds paid to him forthwith.

Abington Election.

A Letter directed to Sir Henry Vane junior, from Francis Barnard, of the Twelfth of September, was this Day read, touching Mr. Henry Nevill, elected a Burgess for the Town of Abington.

The Question being propounded, That it be referred to a Committee, to examine this Information;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

Ordered, That the Committee for regulating Elections, and their equal Distribution, do meet To-morrow at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber; and so de die in diem; and give an Account thereof to the House, on Tuesday-come-fortnight: And all that come are to have Voices.

And the special Care thereof is commended to Sir Henry Vane junior, Colonel Ludlowe, and Mr. Robinson.

Grant to Col. Horton, &c.

Mr. Garland reports Amendments to an Act for settling upon Colonel Horton's Brigade the Lands and Possessions of John Barlowe Esquire, formerly given to Major General Langhorne; as also One thousand Pounds per Annum, out of the Lands of William Earl of Newcastle: Which were twice read.

Resolved, &c. That the last Clause in the said Act, touching the Manor or Lordship of Leechurch, &c. do stand in this Act.

It passed with the Negative.

And the Act, so amended, being put to the Question;

The House was divided.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Garland do bring in an Act To-morrow Morning, for settling on Colonel Horton's Brigade the Lands and Possessions of John Barlow Esquire, formerly given to Major General Langhorne.

Ordered, That the Persons intrusted on the Behalf of Colonel Horton, and his Brigade, shall henceforth have and receive, for the Benefit of that Brigade, the Profits of the Lands and Possessions of John Barlow Esquire, formerly given to Major General Langhorne, until this House take further Order; and likewise that the Profits of the same Estate, from the Sixth of May 1648, be paid and satisfied unto the said Persons, so intrusted, for the Benefit of the same Brigade: And that the Committee of Sequestration, in the Counties where the Premises lie, do take notice thereof, and yield Obedience thereunto accordingly.

Resolved, That an Act be brought in for settling Lands, of the Value of One thousand Pounds per Annum more, on this Brigade, according to the former Order.

Reduced Officers.

Ordered, That the Act for the reduced Officers be read To-morrow Morning.

Essex.

Ordered, That Colonel Venn do report from the Committee of the Army, the Business concerning Essex.

Army Accompt.

Ordered, That Mr. Trenchard do make his Report touching the Accompt of Colonel Sanderson's Regiment, To-morrow Morning.

Publick Accompts.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Act for takeing and receiving the Accompts of the Commonwealth.

Resolved, That Richard Wilcox, Thomas Richardson, Nicholas Bond, Henry Broad, Mathias Valentine, John Greensmith, Edward Fielder, John Ufflet, Henry Robinson, Wm. Madison, Pierce Robinson, be Commissioners in this Act.

The Question being put, That there be an Addition to the Commissioners in this Act;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That Nathaniell Stirrop be one of the Treasurers in this Act.

Resolved, &c. That Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Crompton, of Westminster, be one of the Treasurers in this Act.

A Proviso was tendered to the said Act, That this Act extend not to the taking of any Accompts, which by Law are to be taken and passed in the Court of the Publick Exchequer: Which was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Third time, as Part of the Act.

And the Act, so amended, together with the Proviso, being put to the Question, passed; and ordered to be forthwith printed and published.

Admission of Member.

Resolved, &c. That Henry Nevill Esquire, being returned a Burgess for the Borough of Abingdon in the County of Berks, in the room of Wm. Ball Esquire, deceased, be admitted into the House.

The Engagement.

Resolved, &c. That every Member that now doth, or shall at any time hereafter, fit in this House, shall subscribe his Name to this Engagement; viz. "I do declare and promise, That I will be true and faithful to the Commonwealth of England, as the same is now established, without a King, or House of Lords:" And that such Subscriptions shall begin To-morrow Morning: And that every Person that shall be chosen to sit in Parliament, shall subscribe the same Engagement, before he be admitted to sit in the House.

CrownLands.

A Letter from the General, from Queen Street, 11 Octobris 1649, touching Stay of the Sale of the Crown Lands Two or Three Months longer, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Debate of this Business be taken up To-morrow Morning.
